Book The Campaigns of the Coldstream Guards 1793 1815

Download or read book The Campaigns of the Coldstream Guards 1793 1815 written by Daniel Mackinnon and published by Leonaur Limited. This book was released on 2021-05-17 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Second to none--the campaigns of the Coldstream Guards Daniel Mackinnon, the author of this book, was an officer of the Coldstream Guards. In 1833 he published a history of his regiment from its creation and through the wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France. This Leonaur book, a stand-alone account derived from Mackinnon's larger work focuses on his personal experiences. The regiment served in the disastrous campaign in the Low Countries under the Duke of York and saw hard fighting during the Peninsular War under Wellington. The author describes the regiment on campaign during the battles of Talavera, Busaco, Barrosa, Fuentes d'Honor, Albuera, Salamanca and Vittoria, as well as in the Pyrenees and South of France Campaign towards the close of the war. Mackinnon is perhaps best known as one of the heroic defenders of the château-farm of Hougoumont during the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. His view of these events is very personal and occasionally at odds with other accounts, though perhaps more interesting because of that. The author's text is accompanied here by the inclusion of maps and illustrations which were not present in the source book. Leonaur editions are newly typeset and are not facsimiles; each title is available in softcover and hardback with dustjacket.

Download or read book A History of the Coldstream Guards from 1815 to 1895 Classic Reprint written by John Foster George and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 578 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A History of the Coldstream Guards, From 1815 to 1895 The first few chapters deal with events that took place in France, after Waterloo, including the military occupation of the north-eastern frontier by the Allies, up to the year 1818. The period onwards to the Crimean War, although containing but few accounts of interest concerning the career of the Regiment, is valuable as continuing, to a considerable extent, the history of events in Europe so far as that is consistent with the subject of the present volume. There is reference, nevertheless, to the part taken by the Regiment in the suppression of the Canadian rebellion. Book Waterloo The Defeat of Napoleon s Imperial Guard

Download or read book Waterloo The Defeat of Napoleon s Imperial Guard written by Gareth Glover and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2015-05-30 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This in-depth study of the nuts and bolts of a single division is without a doubt the best book I have ever read on Waterloo.”—The Napoleon Series Winner of the 2017 Society for Army Historical Research Templer Medal This is the most detailed account of the 2nd Division at Waterloo ever published. It is based on the papers of its commander Sir Henry Clinton, and it reveals for the first time the previously unrecognized vital role this division made in the defeat of Napoleon. Author Gareth Glover explains how the division was placed ahead of the main allied squares thus impeding the charges of the French cavalry, and how the 2nd Division supported the defense of Hougoumont, considered by the Duke of Wellington as the key to his victory on 18 June 1815. Perhaps the most significant aspect of this book is the description of the defeat of Napoleon’s Imperial Guard. Just how the incomparable Guard was stopped and then driven from the battlefield is explained in detail. Once and for all, this 200-year controversy is finally resolved. “Does a superb job of dissecting the controversy over whether it was Adam’s Brigade or the Guard’s Brigade that was instrumental in defeating the Imperial Guard.”—The Napoleon Series
