Book The Desert Vet

Download or read book The Desert Vet written by Alex Tinson and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I am at home with camels. Where others see a dirty, filthy, smelling, kicking beast, I see a thing of pure anatomical beauty, an intelligent and graceful creature...Because of camels I have built a life I never imagined possible. And all this happened because I decided to say yes to adventure whenever it came my way.' When Sydney-born vet Alex Tinson was literally plucked from the Australian outback to become chief vet in charge of the United Arab Emirates President's racing camels, he was given one mission: to make the President's camels the best in the UAE and, indeed, all of Arabia. Thirty years later he is still there, having become the world's leading camel vet while caring for a menagerie of unusual animals along the way. But this is more than a story about camels and monkeys, spiders and snakes, and all sorts of other exotic creatures. It is also about crossing boundaries of race and religion to create a life full of possibility, of being introduced to the reclusive world of the Gulf Royal families and of sharing the rich lives of Alex's Bedouin family and friends. Warm and generous, intriguing and compelling, The Desert Vet takes us to a place few have entered before.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book could save you $1 million! OK, maybe not - but some school districts have spent that much defending themselves (and not always successfully) in First Amendment lawsuits brought by students and their parents. First Amendment litigation is on the rise across the nation, and as any principal who has sat through a deposition in one of those cases can tell you, the raw emotions and zealous anger that fuels such disputes can become a massive distraction from your real job of running a school. The Oldest Rule is a comprehensive examination of the different First Amendment issues involving students that public school administrators and attorneys are increasingly facing on daily basis. We will look at such topics as school prayer, dress codes, student threats and cyberbullying, the distribution of literature, the use of public facilities by outside groups, the celebration of religious holidays, and the rise of esoteric religions and their impact in the public schools. Written by Chris Gilbert, an attorney with over twenty-one years' experience advising and representing school districts - big and small, urban and rural -- this book combines discussions of the legal standards and key case decisions with practical advice and hypotheticals.

Download or read book Beware the Camel s Nose written by Michael H Yeager and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2023-09-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the vast stretches of the Arabian desert, a camel once slyly poked its nose into a tent. This innocuous act, as the old fable tells us, led to consequences more significant than one could imagine. "Beware the Camel's Nose" unravels the profound meaning behind this ancient parable, weaving together biblical instances, contemporary examples, and deeply personal anecdotes from the author's life. Every moment of our lives, we stand at a crossroads, faced with decisions that might seem trivial at first. But what if that one, seemingly harmless choice, was the very thread that could unravel our entire tapestry of existence? A distracted glance at a text message could lead to a life-altering accident. A fleeting fit of anger might bind one in the chains of regret. The allure of quick riches, the temptations of flesh, or the impulse to gamble away one's security-each decision we make, no matter how small, holds the power to reshape our destiny. "We are our own worst enemies," the author candidly remarks, challenging readers to reflect on their choices and the cascading effects they have. Whether it's the lure of a forbidden glance, the puff of a cigarette, or the risky allure of a hasty investment, this book is a wakeup call. It serves as a reminder that the devil doesn't always roar; sometimes, he merely whispers, tempting us inch by inch, until we've given away a mile. In "Beware the Camel's Nose," take a journey into the depths of human choices, our moral compass, and the invisible forces that drive us. Discover how the smallest of actions can have monumental consequences, and learn how to guard against the silent encroachments that threaten to erode our boundaries. It's not just about avoiding pitfalls, but also about understanding the vast potential and responsibility that lies within every choice we make.

Book From the Valley of Bronze Camels

Download or read book From the Valley of Bronze Camels written by Jane Miller and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2022-07-26 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jane Miller loves poetry. In these provocative and deeply insightful essays, she unpacks the work of giants like Adrienne Rich, Paul Celan, Marina Tsvetaeva, Osip Mandelstam, and Federico García Lorca alongside painters such as Caravaggio and Paul Klee, as well as ancient Chinese music and techniques of the contemporary poem. Miller explores the use of the question mark in the history of poetry and its function as a revelation of poetic voice. She considers the positive and negative aspects of surrealism on the contemporary poem, its anti-feminist origins in France, its contemporary usage, and the benefits of super-real images. Miller examines how identity politics might affect the imagination. She describes ancient Chinese musical instruments to show how their sounds resonate off/in American poems and on the aural integrity of the lyric poem. She interrogates the political implications of language and the degeneration and regeneration of words. Finally, in an essay about what she dares not say about poetry, she comes out against forms of surrealism, narrative, jargon, rhetoric, irony, and appropriation. This masterful work can be read as advice to a young writer, but it also invites us into the mind of a writer who has developed her craft through the course of a lifetime of writing, reading, and exploring the world, showing not only the ideas that influenced her—feminist, lesbian, and international works—but also how Miller has, in turn, influenced ideas.

Book The Hook and I

    Book Details:
  • Author : David Cannane
  • Publisher : AuthorHouse
  • Release : 2008-11
  • ISBN : 1438928084
  • Pages : 414 pages

Download or read book The Hook and I written by David Cannane and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2008-11 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Hook and I describes a 12-Step Recovery Program using traditional Catholic spirituality in an integrated approach that restores the entire 12-step recovery concept to its original Catholic roots in order to attack addictions by addressing the weaknesses of the soul, especially against "The Hook". More than a method to simply conquer an addiction, this technique of struggling against a "Hook" is used, first of all, to overcome the addiction, second, to grow in sanctity by striving for perfection and holiness, and thirdly, to give God glory for the graces He lovingly bestows on souls struggling against addictions. "The Hook", which can be any sinful addiction, is that primary means by which Satan uses to pull souls from the waters of sanctifying grace. The Hook is as much a permanent part of the soul as the temperament so that it can never really be removed; we can only cut the "fishing line of temptation" and to trim it as close to the hook as possible so that we are rarely, if ever, "reeled in" to the state of sin again. Written in conversational style yet true to Catholic teaching, "The Hook and I" covers the fight against a hook every step of the way, from "running aground" through each of the steps necessary to strengthen the soul to gain mastery over the Hook to the subsequent stages of using the success against the Hook as the springboard to holiness and the pursuit of perfection. "The Hook and I" was written as an apostolate of the Blessed Margaret Family Help Center, Inc, a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation to help families, both in and out of crisis, using traditional Catholic teachings. All royalties from the sale of The Hook and I go to finance the Center's activities.

Book excerpt: "If you start slowly from the beginning, there is only one direction you can go—up.” Michael Shirima is an exceptional figure whose perseverance and stalwart principles of faith, family, and friends contributed to his astounding and inspirational career navigating the inherent challenges and obstacles of the air transport industry in Africa. In this candid and riveting memoir, we discover the thrilling journey of an aircraft performance engineer turned serial entrepreneur who, after resigning from an executive position in a national airline, began his private career trading coffee and other commodities culminating in his founding of Precision Air—Tanzania’s largest privately-owned and premier airline—in 1993. But more than just a catalog of his mistakes and successes, this is also the story of a son guided by the wisdom of his father, the story of a devoted husband, and the story of a loving father to his own children as well as to those at the orphanage he founded at the base of Kilimanjaro. Richly observed and suffused with humility and ingenuity, On My Father’s Wings equips us with important life lessons—on the value of taking risks; being kind to everyone no matter what age, race, status, or gender they are; and to never lose sight of what’s most important in life—from one of the most influential figures in the aviation industry, to remind us why we fly.
