Book Calogero Moser Systems and Representation Theory

Download or read book Calogero Moser Systems and Representation Theory written by Pavel I. Etingof and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2007 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calogero-Moser systems, which were originally discovered by specialists in integrable systems, are currently at the crossroads of many areas of mathematics and within the scope of interests of many mathematicians. More specifically, these systems and their generalizations turned out to have intrinsic connections with such fields as algebraic geometry (Hilbert schemes of surfaces), representation theory (double affine Hecke algebras, Lie groups, quantum groups), deformation theory (symplectic reflection algebras), homological algebra (Koszul algebras), Poisson geometry, etc. The goal of the present lecture notes is to give an introduction to the theory of Calogero-Moser systems, highlighting their interplay with these fields. Since these lectures are designed for non-experts, the author gives short introductions to each of the subjects involved and provides a number of exercises.

Download or read book Tensor Categories written by Pavel Etingof and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2016-08-05 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there a vector space whose dimension is the golden ratio? Of course not—the golden ratio is not an integer! But this can happen for generalizations of vector spaces—objects of a tensor category. The theory of tensor categories is a relatively new field of mathematics that generalizes the theory of group representations. It has deep connections with many other fields, including representation theory, Hopf algebras, operator algebras, low-dimensional topology (in particular, knot theory), homotopy theory, quantum mechanics and field theory, quantum computation, theory of motives, etc. This book gives a systematic introduction to this theory and a review of its applications. While giving a detailed overview of general tensor categories, it focuses especially on the theory of finite tensor categories and fusion categories (in particular, braided and modular ones), and discusses the main results about them with proofs. In particular, it shows how the main properties of finite-dimensional Hopf algebras may be derived from the theory of tensor categories. Many important results are presented as a sequence of exercises, which makes the book valuable for students and suitable for graduate courses. Many applications, connections to other areas, additional results, and references are discussed at the end of each chapter.

Book Seiberg Witten Theory and Integrable Systems

Download or read book Seiberg Witten Theory and Integrable Systems written by Andrei Marshakov and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past few decades many attempts have been made to search for a consistent formulation of quantum field theory beyond perturbation theory. One of the most interesting examples is the Seiberg-Witten ansatz for the N=2 SUSY supersymmetric Yang-Mills gauge theories in four dimensions. The aim of this book is to present in a clear form the main ideas of the relation between the exact solutions to the supersymmetric (SUSY) Yang-Mills theories and integrable systems. This relation is a beautiful example of reformulation of close-to-realistic physical theory in terms widely known in mathematical physics ? systems of integrable nonlinear differential equations and their algebro-geometric solutions.First, the book reviews what is known about the physical problem: the construction of low-energy effective actions for the N=2 Yang-Mills theories from the traditional viewpoint of quantum field theory. Then the necessary background information from the theory of integrable systems is presented. In particular the author considers the definition of the algebro-geometric solutions to integrable systems in terms of complex curves or Riemann surfaces and the generating meromorphic 1-form. These definitions are illustrated in detail on the basic example of the periodic Toda chain.Several ?toy-model? examples of string theory solutions where the structures of integrable systems appear are briefly discussed. Then the author proceeds to the Seiberg-Witten solutions and show that they are indeed defined by the same data as finite-gap solutions to integrable systems. The complete formulation requires the introduction of certain deformations of the finite-gap solutions described in terms of quasiclassical or Whitham hierarchies. The explicit differential equations and direct computations of the prepotential of the effective theory are presented and compared when possible with the well-known computations from supersymmetric quantum gauge theories. Finally, the book discusses the properties of the exact solutions to SUSY Yang-Mills theories and their relation to integrable systems in the general context of the modern approach to nonperturbative string or M-theory.

Book Soliton Equations and Hamiltonian Systems

Download or read book Soliton Equations and Hamiltonian Systems written by L.A. Dickey and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of soliton equations and integrable systems has developed rapidly during the last 20 years with numerous applications in mechanics and physics. For a long time books in this field have not been written but the flood of papers was overwhelming: many hundreds, maybe thousands of them. All this followed one single work by Gardner, Greene, Kruskal, and Miura about the Korteweg-de Vries equation (KdV) which, had seemed to be merely an unassuming equation of mathematical physics describing waves in shallow water.

Book The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems

Download or read book The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems written by Tudor Ratiu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume are an outgrowth of the lectures and informal discussions that took place during the workshop on "The Geometry of Hamiltonian Systems" which was held at MSRl from June 5 to 16, 1989. It was, in some sense, the last major event of the year-long program on Symplectic Geometry and Mechanics. The emphasis of all the talks was on Hamiltonian dynamics and its relationship to several aspects of symplectic geometry and topology, mechanics, and dynamical systems in general. The organizers of the conference were R. Devaney (co-chairman), H. Flaschka (co-chairman), K. Meyer, and T. Ratiu. The entire meeting was built around two mini-courses of five lectures each and a series of two expository lectures. The first of the mini-courses was given by A. T. Fomenko, who presented the work of his group at Moscow University on the classification of integrable systems. The second mini course was given by J. Marsden of UC Berkeley, who spoke about several applications of symplectic and Poisson reduction to problems in stability, normal forms, and symmetric Hamiltonian bifurcation theory. Finally, the two expository talks were given by A. Fathi of the University of Florida who concentrated on the links between symplectic geometry, dynamical systems, and Teichmiiller theory.

Book Nilpotent Orbits In Semisimple Lie Algebra

Download or read book Nilpotent Orbits In Semisimple Lie Algebra written by William.M. McGovern and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-19 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the 1990s, a circle of ideas emerged relating three very different kinds of objects associated to a complex semisimple Lie algebra: nilpotent orbits, representations of a Weyl group, and primitive ideals in an enveloping algebra. The principal aim of this book is to collect together the important results concerning the classification and properties of nilpotent orbits, beginning from the common ground of basic structure theory. The techniques used are elementary and in the toolkit of any graduate student interested in the harmonic analysis of representation theory of Lie groups. The book develops the Dynkin-Konstant and Bala-Carter classifications of complex nilpotent orbits, derives the Lusztig-Spaltenstein theory of induction of nilpotent orbits, discusses basic topological questions, and classifies real nilpotent orbits. The classical algebras are emphasized throughout; here the theory can be simplified by using the combinatorics of partitions and tableaux. The authors conclude with a survey of advanced topics related to the above circle of ideas. This book is the product of a two-quarter course taught at the University of Washington.

Book Hochschild Cohomology for Algebras

Book Boltzmann s Legacy

Download or read book Boltzmann s Legacy written by Jakob Yngvason and published by European Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2008 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ludwig Eduard Boltzmann (1844-1906) was an Austrian physicist famous for his founding contributions in the fields of statistical mechanics and statistical thermodynamics. He was one of the most important advocates for atomic theory when that scientific model was still highly controversial. To commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death in Duino, the International Symposium ``Boltzmann's Legacy'' was held at the Erwin Schrodinger International Institute for Mathematical Physics in June 2006. This text covers a broad spectrum of topics ranging from equilibrium statistical and nonequilibrium statistical physics, ergodic theory and chaos to basic questions of biology and historical accounts of Boltzmann's work. Besides the lectures presented at the symposium the volume also contains contributions specially written for this occasion. The articles give a broad overview of Boltzmann's legacy to the sciences from the standpoint of some of today's leading scholars in the field. The book addresses students and researchers in mathematics, physics, and the history of science.
