Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Towering Novel! Chuck Culver's Best Work. Retired doctor David Somerset, grief-stricken with the recent loss of his beloved wife, is trying painfully to follow through with plans they both made to the English Cotswolds and to restore a 600-hundred-year-old cottage. Although he makes friends with a number of colorful locals in the town of Winchcomb, he is still agonizing over his loss. Then rescue arrives in the form of a mysterious metal box a workman finds in the walls of his cottage. Inside the box, straight from the 16th century, is a rare Tyndale Bible, the first English translation of the Scriptures and the cause of Thomas Tyndale's branding as a heretic by the Catholic Church and his burning at the stake. Also enclosed is the diary of a hitherto unknown priest named Father Christopher Moore, who was Tyndale's best friend and later a chaplain in the court of Henry VIII. The Calm in the Late Afternoon is one of those novels that is more than a read. It's a joyful immersion in life.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has it all, travel, adventure, romance, comedy, drama, sex and speedway racing. It is a story about living our dream of traveling Australia and the world, at the same time pursuing our great sporting love, speedway. From our caravan travels through Northern New South Wales and Southern Queensland to the lush, green hills of the Emerald Isle, the historic ruins of Italy, the desert climes of Dubai, our visit to see our daughter in South Africa and to be there for the birth of our first grandchild. We had such an adventure. But, this was before the Global Financial Crisis and before the collapse of Townsville-based STORM Financial in whose hands we had trustfully placed our financial future. Little did we know what devastation lay ahead. Still, my story here, covers a much calmer time and will hopefully entice budding retirees to be a little adventurous when planning future travels. It was fun while it lasted.

Book excerpt: This condensed volume summarizes updated knowledge on the warm-monomictic subtropical Lake Kinneret, including its geophysical setting, the dynamics of physical, chemical and biological processes and the major natural and anthropogenic factors that affect this unique aquatic ecosystem. This work expands on a previous monograph on Lake Kinneret published in 1978 and capitalizes on the outcome of more than 40 years of research and monitoring activities. These were intensively integrated with lake management aimed at sustainable use for supply of drinking water, tourism, recreation and fishery. The book chapters are aimed at the limnological community, aquatic ecologists, managers of aquatic ecosystems and other professionals. It presents the geographic and geological setting, the meteorology and hydrology of the region, continues with various aspects of the pelagic and the littoral systems. Finally, the last section of the book addresses lake management, demonstrating how the accumulated knowledge was applied in order to manage this important source of freshwater. The section on the pelagic system comprises the heart of the book, addressing the major physical processes, external and internal loading, the pelagic communities (from bacteria to fish), physiological processes and the major biogeochemical cycles in the lake.

Book The First Helicopter Boys

Download or read book The First Helicopter Boys written by David Taylor and published by Pen and Sword. This book was released on 2019-06-30 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Indonesian Confrontation that raged from 1963 to 1966 stemmed from Indonesia’s opposition to the creation of Malaysia. Fighting in the challenging jungle terrain of Borneo and in the countryside straddling the Malaysia/Indonesia border, where there were few roads, posed significant logistical challenges to both sides. That the conflict was ultimately a victory for the Commonwealth forces was in due in no small part to the fact that they enjoyed the advantage of vastly superior helicopter resources and better trained crews – many of which were provided by British units. During the Confrontation, many of these vital helicopter assets were flown by pilots and crews who had gained their knowledge and experience firsthand during the Malayan Emergency, one of the Cold War’s first flash-points which had begun in 1948. Without doubt, the Malayan Emergency marked the formative years of the RAF’s and Royal Navy’s helicopter operations – the very early days in fact, when equipment and knowledge were much more basic. It was a time when operational procedures were still under development, even though the helicopters were already being flown on front line service. Told in the main through their own words, by the RAF and Royal Navy air and ground crews involved, this is the story of how these ‘guinea pigs’ undertook many of Britain’s first rotary wing combat operations and, therefore, cemented their rightful place in the history of the helicopter.

Devoted, Book Five, Eternal Brethren Military Romantic Suspense Series Nathan “Tracker” Calderon Kincaid excels as a Navy SEAL. Since joining Eternal Brethren, he’d become a valued member of the undercover motorcycle club made up of active duty military. Quiet and unassuming, he handled each assignment with the precision of an expert, proud of the missions his team completed. His job didn’t keep him awake at night. That honor was reserved for the woman who’d stolen his heart. The woman who’d shoved him from her life after a perceived betrayal. Juliana Stanifer Quintero’s life has been torn apart twice. Once as a young child when she and her sister were orphaned after a deadly airplane crash. The second as an adult when the man she loved shattered her trust. She hadn’t seen the decorated Navy SEAL who’d shredded her heart since the most painful night of her life. Not until she’d traveled to Liberty Lake to interview for a position at a local clinic. Nate couldn’t do this again. He’d never refused an order until his commander, Wrath McCord, explained his next assignment. For a second time, he’d been assigned to a task force ordered to bring down the Quintero Cartel. He either accepts the order or kisses his career goodbye—the same choice he’d been given once before. Nate had chosen wrong. He’ll not make the same mistake a second time. Devoted is book five in the Eternal Brethren Military Romantic Suspense Series by best seller Shirleen Davies. Book excerpt: In the rugged bush of Northern Ontario, a small bush plane crashes. On board is a ten-year-old boy and the pilot. In the early 1960's the only one capable of finding the crash site is Hag and his blood hound Wojo. Hag enjoyed the good life of living in the wilderness until events leading up to the crash and the search was hampered by his companion. Wojo has shown signs of rabies. It is too late when Hag discovers that the infected scratch on his arm was from his dog. There in the middle of nowhere a sick man and the boy he finds develop a bond that is stronger then life it self. Survival is the utmost of importance when there is a lifetime of growing up ahead. An adventure bigger than the wilderness of Northern Ontario. Quotes: A powerful story. I was shocked by the ending. As heartfelt as the movie Old Yeller. I cried for the boy, I cried for the dog and I cried for Hag. A great story Idea, it could have really happened especially here in Northern Ontario. This is truly a Canadian story.
