Book The Calling What the Lord Intended

Download or read book The Calling What the Lord Intended written by Donald T. Davies and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-02 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to David Barrett of the World Christian Encyclopedia, there are more than 10,000 distinct religions in the world. Maybe, surprisingly to some, Barrett says there are 34,000 separate Christian groups. Hmmm. That's a lot of faith. That's a lot of religion; most of which finds its basis in human reason and invention. However, there's a faith that's called THE FAITH. It finds its basis and creation in the Lord, and is clearly delineated in His Word, the Bible. He, the Lord not man, set the parameters, the boundaries, and the substance of the faith. Unfortunately, those who claim to be followers of the Lord have tended to wander from the kind of faith the Lord has called His people to follow and reproduce. The author doesn't presume to have special revelation. He doesn't pretend to have access to secrets that are unique to him. He simply places THE FAITH into its historical context while making application to the believer of today. It's time to take a fresh look at the faith and calling the Lord intended. This book is just the beginning, but the author hopes it will be a profitable beginning for all who read it. DONALD DAVIES has been married to his high school sweetheart, Carolyn, for 43 years. Over the years they've been blessed with eight children of their own and numerous foster children. After graduating from college (University of Akron) and Seminary (Asbury Theological Seminary), Donald has served as pastor in a number of churches, retiring from the Arlington Memorial Baptist Church after 25 years of service there and a total of 40 years in the pulpit ministry.

Book Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood

Download or read book Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood written by John Bergsma and published by Emmaus Road Publishing. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is there anything in the New Testament about the need for priests in the Church? Many Protestants would argue no. And if you point out that there is a priesthood in the Old Testament, they are likely to say it was a feature of the Old Covenant that was undone by Christ. How should a Catholic respond? In Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood, biblical scholar John Bergsma convinces readers that Jesus did, in fact, intend for a ministerial priesthood to be a key feature of the New Covenant. Bergsma shows how the priesthood is a major thread holding together the biblical story line—beginning with Adam’s loss of the gift of priesthood in the Fall and the long process of restoring his descendants to a priestly status over the centuries, culminating with Christ. With chapter summaries and discussion questions included, Jesus and the Old Testament Roots of the Priesthood can readily be adapted into a four-part study for personal or small group use.

There is an outpouring of new expressions of church being started throughout metro areas across North America. Where are these new churches being started? Maybe a more subterranean question is, "Why"? Why are churches being started where they are and why is there is a bias towards one part of the city and an overall neglect of other parts? Metrospiritual explores these questions and more as it builds off of recent research and surveys of hundreds of church planters in seven large cities in the United States and Canada. There is a deeper look at pivotal issues such as gentrification, the Creative Class, community transformation, urban renewal, and the role new churches play in all of these.

Book Christian Principals of Recovery

Download or read book Christian Principals of Recovery written by Bruce Stanley and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-15 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of a prayer. After a ten-year attempt to recover from a ruined life of drugs and alcohol, to the countless programs, meeting rooms, rehabilitation facilities, and traditional clinical modalities, I was never abstinent longer than six months. My prayer? "God save me from myself!" The answer came from reading 2 Peter 1:3-11. There, God describes how if we put our trust in Him and desire to escape the brokenness of our lives, we can grow in our faith through a process called sanctification and, therefore, receive the reward of a new life in freedom and peace. This book is a testimony of this truth.

A bridge between the world of the Bible and the world of today, built by discerning what is timeless in the timely pages of the Bible. Contemporary Significance.
