Book What to Expect When Calling 911

Download or read book What to Expect When Calling 911 written by C. R. Hartwell and published by . This book was released on 2017-11 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Book containing the questions you will be asked. What does a 911 operator need? This book will guide the caller to look for specific information for each different type of 911 call. While it is important to remember that no two Public Safety Access Points or PSAPs are going to function exactly the same; the following is meant to instruct the caller on what information may be more important to the 911 operator and what may be asked when calling 911. One important thing to remember when calling 911 is to remain calm (if possible) and to answer the operator's questions. Many times when on a 911 call as an operator, I have been yelled at and told to "just send help and to stop asking dumb questions". The questions being asked may not seem important to you as a caller, but are very important to the operator and to the responding officers, firefighters, or medics. Try to keep in mind that we are the professionals, this may be your first or second time on a 911 call; however, the operator has been on literally thousands of 911 calls and knows what kind of information is more important to the safety of the caller.Another thing that would be good to remember about the 911 operator is that they are just a person, they are doing a job - a highly stressful job. A good operator is sure to keep personal opinion out of their questioning and many agencies have a script for each type of call that they receive.

Book 9 1 1 WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY

Download or read book 9 1 1 WHAT IS YOUR EMERGENCY written by Lucia - Retired Dispatcher #160 and published by Author House. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains actual 911 and non-emergency calls that came into the San Diego Police Department Communications Division during my 19 years working as a Police 911 Dispatcher. This book represents the calls received as accurately as possible. I did not embellish them to make the calls funnier or more exciting. These are actual calls, often unbelievable, but they are real calls. This book is a way for me to portray the "real world" life of a 911 dispatcher. Some people may not understand why or how we can make light of some of the calls in this book. You may fall into that category making this book not your cup of tea. If however, you can approach this book with an open mind, and a light heart, you may gain a different perspective about 911 dispatchers then you had before. Of course, the bulk of calls coming in were true emergencies that would not be appropriate for this book. I chose mostly, the light hearted calls that would make you come away from the book with a smile, instead of a heavy heart. The Dark Side Chapter is the only chapter in this book with samples of the more serious, violent type of calls we get on a daily basis. Many of you may be amazed by the sub culture out there, and how they live on a day to day basis. Many of these calls may shock you, and have you scratching your head thinking....OMG really?!! I took my job very seriously, and would never willingly jeopardize the confidentiality, or privacy of anybody who asked for my help. Therefore, I did not use real personal names or addresses from any callers in this book without their consent. Any names or a personal address used in this book that may sound familiar is pure coincidence. I hope you enjoy this book.

Book Wake Up Call

Download or read book Wake Up Call written by Kristen Breitweiser and published by Hachette UK. This book was released on 2006-09-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The heart-wrenching account of a young mother widowed after the horrific 9/11 terrorist attack and her journey towards becoming a central activists in the fight for justice and peace. Kristen Breitweiser was a happy young mother and housewife leading a privileged life. Then, on the morning of September 11th, 2001, the phone rang. It was her husband, Ron, calling from his office in the second tower. "Sweets, I'm ok. I'm ok. Don't worry. It's not my building," he said. Kristen didn't know what he was saying. He told her to turn on the television. He continued. "I see them. They're right there. Right across from me. And they're jumping. My God, they're jumping." The call ended abruptly and Kristen watched with horror as the second tower exploded. A huge, brilliant, red fireball. In that frozen instant, she felt in her heart that he had been killed. This is the deeply personal, often shocking and ultimately inspirational story of a woman left to pick up the pieces of a life shattered by terrorism. With no husband by her side or father for her child, Kristen had to find the strength within herself to embark on a journey that would lead first to the creation of the 9/11 Commission and then to her role as one of the country's most outspoken activists and critics of the current administration.
