This book was released on 2019-03-27 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cairn Terrier is one of the oldest breeds of terrier and originates from the Scottish Highlands. The Cairn Terrier is one of Scotland's earliest recorded breeds of working dog. The breed's name is derived from its working purpose: to hunt and chase rodents found between the cairns located in the Scottish Highlands. Unusually the breed tends to be left-pawed, which is a trait that commonly correlates to a superior sense of smell and performance in scent related tasks and hunting. The Cairn Terrier has an abundant, coarse and shaggy outer coat and a dramatically softer undercoat. Despite having a dense and relatively long coat, the Cairn Terrier tends to shed very little. The breed's coat comes in five common colorations which are: black, cream, brindle, deep red and light gray. Despite being a relatively small breed, the Cairn Terrier is a highly playful and energetic dog! It is important to make sure that you properly exercise your Cairn Terrier as, due to its working history, it is likely to develop destructive behaviors if it is bored or has an abundance of energy. As a whole the Cairn Terrier is a known to be an extremely friendly, affectionate and playful breed who generally enjoys meeting new people. It is important to remember that Cairn Terriers are terrier: which means that they are independent, tough, alert and have a high prey drive which may lead to it chasing other small household pets. If you own a Cairn Terrier it is important to train and socialize it thoroughly to minimize the chances of it developing any antisocial behaviors. Before purchasing any pet it is important to understand that as a pet owner you are responsible for the care and wellbeing of your pet. It is important to try and learn as much as you can about the animal you are considering to keep as a pet to make sure that your lifestyle, household and financial status are suited to provide your pet with the best possible care. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Cairn Terrier's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Cairn Terrier, raising your Cairn Terrier from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! Download or read book The Irish Terrier written by Michael Stonewood and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04-11 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Irish Terrier is a breed of dog that is a member of the Terrier typing. The breed originates from Ireland and is considered to be one of the oldest breeds of terrier. The Irish Terrier was originally developed for its gameness, as it has a great innate instinct to hunt and kill vermin. The Irish Terrier was famously described as 'the poor man's sentinel, the farmer's friend, and the gentleman's favorite, ' by F. M. Jowett in their work 'The Irish Terrier.' Breed standards describe the Irish Terrier as racy, rectangular shaped and of a red coloration. The breed is powerful without being overly heavy. The breed's double coat comes in a variety of red colorations and its one of its most unique features. The outer coat is wiry in texture and should never been silky, woolly or wavy. The inner part of the breed's coat, called the 'underwood, ' should be densely packed and also of a red coloration. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a Irish Terrier. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your Irish Terrier with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the Irish Terrier is very good with people and has a high sense of loyalty towards their family unit. The Irish Terrier is a great choice for families with young children, as the Irish Terrier is an extremely tolerant breed and can handle a fair deal of 'rough housing.' However it is important to note that the Irish Terrier has a high prey drive, due to their hunting history. It is therefore not recommend to keep an Irish Terrier in the same household as a smaller pet (such as a cat) - although it is possible to socialize your Irish Terrier with small animals during its puppyhood which could lead to the Irish Terrier living peacefully with smaller household pets. It is important to note that as a working breed, the Irish Terrier has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the Irish Terrier has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity. This guide has been designed to provide you with both precise and concise information about a Irish Terrier's basic needs to help you provide your pet with the best quality care practices. This guide will give an in-depth explanation on training your Irish Terrier, raising your Irish Terrier from a puppy, grooming, health care and everything in between! The Kerry Blue Terrier was originally developed for the purpose of controlling 'vermin,' which includes rats, badgers, foxes, hares, rabbits and otters. Due to the fact that the Kerry Blue Terrier is capable of hunting 'vermin' both on land and in water, the breed quickly became popular as a general purpose working dog due its high levels of adaptability. The breed has been known to be a guard dog, a companion dog and a cattle herder. The breed was first used in the mountains of Kerry, in Ireland, hence the breed's name - the Kerry Blue Terrier is actually the national dog of Ireland. The Kerry Blue Terrier is known to have a long head with a flat skull, a deep chest, and a soft wavy-to-curly coat. The Kerry Blue Terrier's most unique feature is its coat. The breed has no undercoat and its coat has a texture similar to human hair or fine wool. Interestingly, the Kerry Blue Terrier does not tend to shed but will continuously grow its coat throughout the year which makes the Kerry Blue Terrier a hypoallergenic breed. The breed's coat comes in various shades of 'blue,' however all Kerry Blue Terrier puppies are born with black coats that slowly shift to a blue coloration. The breed is also commonly known as the 'Irish Glen of Imaal Terrier' or the 'Wicklow Terrier' in reference to the breed originating from the Glen of Imaal in the County of Wicklow, Ireland. The breed was officially recognized by the Irish Kennel Club in 1934 but was only recently recognized by the American Kennel Club in 2004. The breed is belived to have been developed during the reign of Elizabeth I. Elizabeth I hired French and Hessian mercenaries to quell a rebellion in Ireland which lead to many of the mercenaries settling in the Wicklow area after the conflict. The mercenaries brought with them their low bodied hounds, which they bred with the local Irish terrier stock which eventually lead to the Glen of Imaal Terrier breed. Like many other terriers, the Glen of Imaal Terrier was originally used to hunt and kill vermin such as rats, mice, foxes, badges and otters. However the breed quickly started to be used as a general purpose farm dog due to its high levels of trainability and intelligence. In modern times the Glen of Imaal Terrier is mainly found as a household companion dog due to its affectionate and loving nature. The Glen of Imaal Terrier has a unique double coat that is wiry on the topside and much softer on the underside. The temperament of dogs is normally affected by the following factors: individual personality, heredity, training and socialization. It is therefore important to make sure that you meet the puppy's mother before purchasing a Glen of Imaal Terrier. It is also important to make sure to thoroughly socialize your Glen of Imaal Terrier with strangers, children and other animals during its puppyhood. Generally speaking, the Glen of Imaal Terrier tends to be much more easy going that most other breeds within the terrier typing. The Glen of Imaal Terrier is known to be undemanding, energetic and even-tempered which makes it a perfect household pet. It is important to note that as a working breed, the Glen of Imaal Terrier has a high amount of energy which needs to be expended. If the Glen of Imaal Terrier has a buildup of energy it is likely to develop destructive behaviors due to boredom or hyperactivity.
