Book Incomplete Without My Brother Adonis

Download or read book Incomplete Without My Brother Adonis written by Kaizer Mabhilidi Nyatsumba and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2014-08-16 with total page 799 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “We walked on a patch of grass that seemed to have been burnt a few hours earlier, with soot covering our feet. There, in front of us, lay my beloved brother, Adonis, lifeless, his body facing up. There were numerous stab wounds on his body, including his face, and his lumber jacket was half burnt.” Thus begins Kaizer Nyatsumba’s tragic story of his twin brother’s horrible murder. It is also an intriguing look into aspects of South African life hitherto unknown to many. They were twins of a special kind, the closest of friends, and each other’s confidantes. Their mothers were sisters, they were inseparable when they grew up, they were the first graduates in the extended family, and were the ones the family depended on for leadership. When Adonis was brutally murdered in the Pretoria area in June 2009, Kaizer was shattered and his life irrevocably changed. A part of him died with Adonis, and he has yet to come fully to terms with the loss. A very private man, the author bares his soul in this book. “This story by the master craftsman, Kaizer Nyatsumba, is so absorbing that it is impossible to stop reading.” – Michael Mandl’aButi Mathabela

Book DAD CAN I BORROW THE HEARSE

Download or read book DAD CAN I BORROW THE HEARSE written by Thomas J. Van Kula and published by Gatekeeper Press. This book was released on 2021-10-07 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Located within the boundaries of one of the East Side of Detroit's "bluest" of blue collar neighborhoods, 9074 St. Cyril Avenue served a dual purpose - funeral home and family residence. Occupying the first floor of the impressive yellow bricked structure from 1942 until 1978 was the Van Kula Funeral Home - the second floor I called home. For over four decades I was associated with death and dying on an almost daily occurrence. Residing over a funeral home with five siblings added to the plenitude of memories - poignant, humorous and enduring. As an observer and eventual practitioner of one of the world's oldest professions, I have borne witness to human nature under the most demanding of emotional circumstances. In "DAD, CAN I BORROW THE HEARSE?" I have attempted to present a summary of events as they related to me - "The Funeral Director's Kid".

Book Leighlin Road

Download or read book Leighlin Road written by Martin Duffy and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2022-07-12 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This memoir tells the story of the first twenty-one years of my life, growing up and coming of age in the working class Dublin Corporation housing estate of Crumlin. Although humorous when telling my tale, the book also includes stories of abuse, death and loss. The chapters unfold from my unlikely birth – the youngest of fifteen children – to Crumlin life, the death of my brother Paddy in a London road accident and the abuse I suffered through a 'Christian' Brother at school. From a little boy priest in Blackrock College and then as an apprentice projectionist in the Kenilworth Cinema and a year as clapper/loader in Ardmore Studios. The story goes on through my difficult teenage years of alienation from my father and his death at the age of seventy, a month before my 21st birthday and a few months before my marrying my pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend. That marked the end of my life in 147, Leighlin Road and the start of my life as a married man and father-to-be. This book will be of interest to anyone of a Dublin/Irish heritage who will understand my journey. Back in my day emigration, particularly to England, was part of Irish life and that is reflected in my story. I am an experienced storyteller and now I am finally telling my own story of the years that formed the man I am today.

Book excerpt: The Journey of I & I is a raw yet powerful account of a tragic and horrendous childhood endured by Liz, an ordinary child growing up in extraordinary circumstances. Readers are taken on a journey of unfathomable lows and motivating highs as they find themselves turning the pages wanting to simultaneously help the main character, Liz, wanting to rescue her, embrace her, cry and laugh with her. It is primarily a tale of survival and determination as the Author invites readers to accompany Liz on her life's journey. Despite its initial subject matter of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence, it is a tale also interspersed with humour and laugh out loud moments. It is a story of the dynamics of her relationships at every turn of her life. Its a story of chaos and drama and as one reader wrote: 'I read a story and I was there. I read a story of sadness, hope and of courage and laughter and I was there. I read of horror and betrayal and I was there'. It is a journey of mental, physical, emotional and spiritual healing achieved through a returned journey re-commencing from her birth. It is a story that had to be written and told in order for Liz, the main character, to validate and make sense of her dramatic emergence into this world and of her life. A story that was inspired by her courage to retrace her steps back into horrific darkness and pain. It is ultimately a story that will help and inspire others who suffered or suffering in similar circumstances. It is a story of HOPE. "Powerful and Inspirational are definitely words that describe both you as an individual and as a writer. I will be first in line to buy your book and to have it signed personally by you. I could not be more proud of you. I have always said that you are the most inspirational and talented person with words and much more and I am truly grateful for any time I get to speak with you and hear your words. I am so glad and happy that your words will be read by so many now." - R.W. - Army Military Employee "Your style of writing is extremely powerful and inspiring. Your story is so well written and descriptive that there is no doubt that this story will go a long way to helping others who have been through or who are currently experiencing similar situations and circumstances. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Looking out across Karachi from the palace veranda you might be forgiven for thinking that you were in Tenerife. There were palm trees. Floral-painted buses forcing their way through the crowd. Street vendors selling savoury fritters from wicker baskets. Others walked like chain-men with buckets and tin cups swinging by their side as they sold water to the thirsty. Everywhere the 'toot-toot' of motor vehicles. There was a vibrancy in this young country, which had achieved independence scarcely five years before.During school holidays, when I was not attending the posh Mama Parsi High School, I might be travelling in a Jeep on one of Papa's many business trips to Afghanistan or India. But for the spoiled favourite daughter of a rich Persian Zoroastrian family, having everything was not enough. I had to throw it all away.

Book My Brother s Road

Download or read book My Brother s Road written by Markar Melkonian and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2008-05-07 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do 'Abu Sindi', 'Timothy Sean McCormack', 'Saro', and 'Commander Avo' all have in common? They were all aliases for Monte Melkonian. But who was Monte Melkonian? In his native California he was once a kid in cut-off jeans, playing baseball and eating snow cones. Europe denounced him as an international terrorist. His adopted homeland of Armenia decorated him as a national hero who led a force of 4000 men to victory in the Armenian enclave of Mountainous Karabagh in Azerbaijan. Why Armenia? Why adopt the cause of a remote corner of the Caucasus whose peoples had scattered throughout the world after the early twentieth century Ottoman genocides? Markar Melkonian spent seven years unravelling the mystery of his brother's road: a journey which began in his ancestors' town in Turkey and leading to a blood-splattered square in Tehran, the Kurdish mountains, the bomb-pocked streets of Beirut, and finally, to the windswept heights of Mountainous Karabagh. Monte's life embodied the agony and the follies bedevelling the end of the Cold War and the unravelling of the Soviet Union. Yet, who really was this man? A terrorist or a hero? "My Brother's Road" is not just the story of a long journey and a short life, it is an attempt to understand what happens when one man decides that terrible actions speak louder than words.

Book My Brother John

Download or read book My Brother John written by Marie Carthy and published by Hachette Books Ireland. This book was released on 2012-08-30 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Carthy was an average guy, a hard-working young man devoted to his mother and sister, who also happened to suffer from depression - in common with one in four Irish people today. But in April 2001, in the grip of a bi-polar episode, John was shot dead by gardai after emerging from his home in Abbeylara after a 25-hour stand-off. It was a shooting that could have been avoided. What had begun as a private family happening in a small Irish town had quickly turned into a national media event, with journalists given more access to the scene than ultimately even his own sister was allowed. In the wake of his death Marie Carthy fought relentlessly for an independent inquiry into her brother's shooting, withstanding personal humiliation and attempts to discredit her along the way. Six years on she and her mother Rose found themselves vindicated by the findings of the Barr Tribunal. Yet nothing can ever bring John back. My Brother John is a tribute to a beloved brother and son. From their carefree childhood as inseparable siblings to the untimely death of their father when they were teenagers, it describes the onset of John's depression and how he learned to cope with his illness. It also tells the family's story in the grim aftermath of his death, and how their pledge for justice in his name kept them fighting throughout the darkest of days.
