Book Leadership as an Identity

Download or read book Leadership as an Identity written by Crawford Loritts and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2009-01-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ask yourself this question: What type of character qualifies the people God chooses to use? The question itself assumes an atypical answer, simply because it leaves out so much. To ask only about one's character seems inadequate when defining a leader. We surely need to ask about character, but also about personality, communication skills, IQ, education, previous experience, and more... don't we? Crawford Loritts disagrees. He answers the question with four simple words: Brokenness, communion, servanthood, and obedience. These four traits form the framework for Leadership as an Identity. By examining each trait, Loritts undermines many pervasive assumptions about leadership that are unbiblical. According to Loritts, God doesn't look for leaders like the world does. He looks for disciples, and ironically, as these disciples follow Him, they will lead.

Book Living for Leadership

Download or read book Living for Leadership written by Frank C. Etsell and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My parents, Pastors Wilson and Bessie Etsell, faced many obstacles during the early years of their ministry. They began their ministry in a small community in August 1934. One cold morning in October of that year, they found themselves sitting on a small trunk by the side of the road. They had no money and no place to live. Everything they owned was in that trunk. By faith, they overcame, and because of their dedication and determination, they developed many leadership qualities, which guided them throughout their lives. This is an account of their early years in ministry and some of the leadership qualities that contributed to almost fifty years of full-time ministry throughout Newfoundland. One of the greatest challenges that Mom and Dad ever faced came in 1950, when I was thirteen years of age, and medical doctors at the General Hospital in St. John's, Newfoundland, told them that there was no hope or cure for my condition and that I would only live for a few weeks.

And classmates working together, under a blanket of trust and friendship, was the only way to allow people to open up. It was a three year journey into the hearts and souls of America’s youngest heroes to gather these important historical accounts, but it was worth every hour spent. Inside this book are the voices the first Annapolis graduates into a decade of war and they remind us that America is in good hands. They were walking to class on 9/11, wearing Naval Academy “summer working blues”, when the towers were struck. The campus went to general quarters, battle stations. They would be the first class after this attack to graduate into a nation at war and would be faced, like so many past graduates, of rising to the challenge to keeping America great. President Bush and Vice President Cheney articulated a world at the crossroads, and the U.S. would preemptively in seek enemies who threatened the national interest, America would not again be terrorized. In the Shadow of Greatness addresses issues that go beyond one USNA class, it explains the trials of most military veterans of this era. Understanding how a young person enlists to serve, deploys to the fight, and returns home is unknown to most Americans. Veterans pack up their uniforms, but never lose the call for service when the return to civilian society. The profiles in this book represent the “Next Great Generation” of American leaders. Men and women who lost their innocence in battle and their youths to a decade of deployments, throughout which they never gave up hope. In exchange for down range scars, they gained an unbreakable sense of purpose to America’s ideals—freedom, equality, and democracy. The narratives are meant to inspire, educate, and reveal a world many don’t understand. Its contents are readable and easy to appreciate. The Class of 2002—and more broadly, the one million veterans of the Long War—are America’s leaders of tomorrow. Read this book to learn what they endured and why they are prepared.

Download or read book Christ Centered Leadership written by David L. McKenna and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-05-09 with total page 135 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If a leader is a Christian, what difference does it make?" Giant strides have been made in secular leadership theory toward a Christian viewpoint. Priority is now given to character as well as competence, accountability as well as power, transformation as well as transaction, and servanthood as well as success. But these qualities apply to secular as well as to Christian leadership. So, the question remains, "What difference does it make?" David McKenna finds the answer in the Incarnation of Jesus Christ--a divine act for him and a defining attitude for us. Philippians 2:11-15 sets the standard and gives the details. "Your attitude should be the same as Jesus Christ" means following his call to the cross, where we die to self and sacrifice all self-interest in position, power, and prestige in order to serve obediently, faithfully, and humbly for the good of others and the glory of God. Christ-centered leadership is not an extension of the highest and best of human leadership. Radical obedience to the call of Christ and utter dependence upon the Holy Spirit make a substantive difference. In the most practical terms, Incarnation continues in us when we live fully, lead freely, and go where he wants us to go.

Book The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Leadership Volume 5

Download or read book The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Leadership Volume 5 written by Zacharias Tanee Fomum and published by ZTF Books Online. This book was released on with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Complete Works of Zacharias Tanee Fomum on Leadership (Volume 5) contains the following books: Church Planting Strategies In the Crucible for Service Prerequisites for Spiritual Ministry Laws of Spiritual Success Making Spiritual Progress (Volume 3) This ecstatic and exciting volume opens with church planting strategies. These strategies for planting churches are many and varied. You cannot plant churches without seriously considering and deploying elements such as prayer, fasting, preaching, character, and service. It is not all the church planting strategies that you will apply in all situations. Every situation demands serious knowledge of the people involved, the setting, and the characteristics of the place. It also requires God’s specific instructions peculiar to the people or the place. Some people think that service is an easy thing. It may be simple, but it is not simplistic. Service is hard, hazardous but hope-bringing. That is why those who serve find themselves in a crucible in which they burn until they are brought out for their promotions. Are you ready to face your own fiery furnace? Are you ready to face your own lion’s den like Daniel? Are you ready to face a prison-like Joseph, son of Jacob? Are you ready to face your own cross like Jesus of Nazareth? If you fear fire, lions, prison, the cross, and such debilitating things, you fear leadership.

Book Mindful Leadership Emotional Intelligence Collection 4 Books

Download or read book Mindful Leadership Emotional Intelligence Collection 4 Books written by Harvard Business Review and published by Harvard Business Review Press. This book was released on 2015-10-13 with total page 1060 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This digital collection, curated by Harvard Business Review, offers four books on the topic of emotional intelligence, found by bestselling author Daniel Goleman to be twice as important as other competencies in determining outstanding leadership. In Primal Leadership, With a New Preface by the Authors, the authors show that great leaders excel not just through skill and smarts, but by connecting with others using emotional intelligence competencies like empathy and self-awareness. The best leaders are “resonant” leaders—individuals who manage their own and others’ emotions in ways that drive success. In Resonant Leadership, Richard Boyatzis and Annie McKee provide an indispensable guide to overcoming the vicious cycle of stress, sacrifice, and dissonance that afflicts many leaders and offer a field-tested framework for creating the resonance that fuels great leadership. And in Becoming a Resonant Leader, Annie McKee, Richard Boyatzis, and Frances Johnston share vivid, real-life stories illuminating how people can develop emotional intelligence, build resonance, and renew themselves. Finally, HBR’s 10 Must Read on Emotional Intelligence presents 10 articles by experts in the field of emotional intelligence, all of which will inspire you to monitor and channel your moods and emotions; make smart, empathetic people decisions; manage conflict and regulate emotions within your team; react to tough situations with resilience; better understand your strengths, weaknesses, needs, values, and goals; and develop emotional agility.

Book Dedication and Leadership

Download or read book Dedication and Leadership written by Douglas Hyde and published by University of Notre Dame Pess. This book was released on 2016-10-07 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On March 14, 1948, Douglas Hyde handed in his resignation as the news editor of the London Daily Worker and wrote “the end” to twenty years of his life as a member of the Communist Party. A week later, in a written statement, Hyde announced that he had renounced Communism and, with his wife and children, was joining the Catholic Church. The long pilgrimage from Communism to Christ carried Douglas Hyde from complete commitment to Marxism, to a questioning uneasiness about Soviet Russia’s glaring contradictions of ideology and action, to a final rejection of the Party. In Dedication and Leadership, Hyde advances the theory that although the goals and aims of Communism are antithetical to human dignity and the rights of the individual, there is much to be learned from communist methods, cadres and psychological motivation. Hyde describes the Communist mechanics of instilling dedication, the first prerequisite for leadership. Here is the complete rationale of party technique: how to stimulate the willingness to sacrifice; the advisability of making big demands to insure a big response; the inspirational indoctrination; and the subtle conversion methods. In this small book, so large with implications, Douglas Hyde comments on both Communist and Catholic potential and their lack of maximum effectiveness. He advocates positive Catholic action, not just a negative anti-Communism, and he points out that the guidelines are now down for a decisive choice between total Communism and a total Christianity. Here is a realistic approach to an acute problem uncolored by emotional propaganda, and here is a realistic answer on how to inspire dedication for leadership.
