Book excerpt: When an ordinary dollar bill passes through the hands of six strangers, the life of each one takes an extraordinary turn. The psychologically-impoverished heiress, the homeless housewife, the closed-minded artist, the car-hating cab driver, the down-to-earth rising star, and the paternally-challenged stay-at-home dad have nothing in common other than the fact that they are miserable. Their lives are filled with problems, but their heads are void of solutions. It is only after coming in contact with a certain piece of enigmatic currency that they find their way to happiness. Inspired by the etymology of the phrase "buck passing," which recounts that an object (known as a "buck") was passed during early poker games as a means of indicating which player's turn it was to deal the cards, The Buck Pass is the story of a single dollar bill that acts as an agent of chance and change. Rather than deal the cards, however, the protagonists of The Buck Pass find themselves encouraged to deal inadvertently with their problems - to follow their hearts, leave their mark, and, like the dollar, move on. The Buck Pass - it doesn't stop here.

Book The Art of Passing the Buck Vol I Secrets of Wills and Trusts Revealed

Download or read book The Art of Passing the Buck Vol I Secrets of Wills and Trusts Revealed written by Charles Arthur and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2007-07-06 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Art of Passing the Buck offers a simple, comprehensive explanation of how Wills and Trusts work. It reveals wealth retention, management and empowerment techniques you can use to build a family dynasty. Inheritance may often degenerate into legal battles, and/or dark whisperings among relatives. Who was cared for or neglected comes to the fore when reading the Will or setting up the Trust. Sometimes, siblings battle among themselves over who gets what, while parents become distraught making the myriad decisions related to their own passing. We explain how there can be a smooth transition when both Grantors and Beneficiaries have vital information. A must read for both givers and receivers of wealth, this book also covers: the history of Trusts, Trust types, Trustees and the law, privacy, who should not have a Trust, parenting and perpetual wealth, and heirs: the favored and the flawed. Emphasis throughout is on what works in the real world, based on decades of experience.

Book Passing the Buck

Download or read book Passing the Buck written by Kathryn Harrison and published by UBC Press. This book was released on 2011-11-01 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Passing the Buck is the first in-depth study of the impact of federalism on Canadian environmental policy. The book takes a detailed look at the ongoing debate on the subject and traces the evolution of the role of the federal government in environmental policy and federal-provincial relations concerning the environment from the late 1960s to the early 1990s. The author challenges the widespread assumption that federal and provincial governments invariably compete to extend their jurisdiction. Using well-researched case studies and extensive research to support her argument, the author points out that the combination of limited public attention to the environment and strong opposition from potentially regulated interests yields significant political costs and limited political benefits. As a result, for the most part, the federal government has been content to leave environmental protection to the provinces. In effect, the federal system has allowed the federal government to pass the buck to the provinces and shirk the political challenge of environmental protection.

Book Passing the Buck

  • Author : Jasmine Farrier
  • Publisher : University Press of Kentucky
  • Release : 2014-10-17
  • ISBN : 0813156742
  • Pages : 300 pages

Download or read book Passing the Buck written by Jasmine Farrier and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2014-10-17 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the past thirty years, Congress has dramatically changed its response to unpopular deficit spending. While the landmark Congressional Budget Act of 1974 tried to increase congressional budgeting powers, new budget processes created in the 1980s and 1990s were all explicitly designed to weaken member, majority, and institutional budgeting prerogatives. These later reforms shared the premise that Congress cannot naturally forge balanced budgets without new automatic mechanisms and enhanced presidential oversight. So Democratic majorities in Congress gave new budgeting powers to Presidents Reagan and Bush, and then Republicans did the same for President Clinton. Passing the Buck examines how Congress is increasing delegation of a wide variety of powers to the president in recent years. Jasmine Farrier assesses why institutional ambition in the early 1970s turned into institutional ambivalence about whether Congress is equipped to handle its constitutional duties.

Book Giannis

Download or read book Giannis written by Mirin Fader and published by Hachette Books. This book was released on 2021-08-10 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s extraordinary rise from poverty in Athens, Greece, to superstardom in America with the Milwaukee Bucks—becoming one of the most transcendent players in history and an NBA Champion—from award-winning basketball reporter and feature writer at The Ringer Mirin Fader. As the face of the NBA’s new world order, Giannis Antetokounmpo has overcome unfathomable obstacles to become a symbol of hope for people all over the world; the personification of the American Dream. But his backstory remains largely untold. Fader unearths new information about the childhood that shaped “The Greek Freak”—from sleeping side by side with his brothers to selling trinkets on the street with his family to the racism he experienced. Antetokounmpo grew up in an era when Golden Dawn, Greece’s far-right, anti-immigrant party, patrolled his neighborhood, and his status as an illegal immigrant largely prevented him from playing for the country’s top clubs, making his NBA rise all the more improbable. Fader tells a deeply human story of how an unknown, skinny, Black Greek teen, who played in the country’s lowest pro division and was seen as a draft gamble, transformed his body and his game into MVP material. Antetokounmpo’s story has been framed as a feel-good narrative in which everyone has embraced him—watching him grow up, sign a five-year supermax contract extension worth $228 million, and lead the underdog Bucks to the NBA Championship in 2021. Giannis reveals a more nuanced story: how lonely and isolated he felt, adjusting to America and the NBA early in his career; the complexity of grappling with his Black and Greek identities; how he is so hard on himself and his shortcomings—a drive that fuels him every day; and the responsibility he feels to be a nurturing role model for his younger brothers. Fader illustrates a more vulnerable star than most people know, a person who has evolved triumphantly into all of his roles: father, brother, son, teammate, and global icon. **Instant New York Times Bestseller, Los Angeles Times Bestseller, Wall Street Journal Bestseller, USA Today Bestseller, Publishers Weekly Bestseller** **Mirin Fader Selected as the 2021 Sports Media Author of the Year by The Big Lead** **The Sports Librarian’s Best of 2022 – Sports Books**
