Book excerpt: The lives of three brothers hinge on the outcome of the final bombing campaign of the Vietnam War, Linebacker II. Ernest, the middle brother, is an "EW," and electronic warfare officer flying B-52 bombers based in Thailand. He has complete faith in the bomber's electronic counter measures and his skill at using his technology to keep safe from the Surface to Air Missile (SAM) threat. Stephen, the eldest, is a B-52 pilot who returned from the war without a scratch and now works for the Strategic Air Command (SAC) operations staff. He has complete faith that SAC has a plan for finally winning the long war and that the B-52 will keep his brother safe. Martin, the youngest, is a college student on a draft deferment about to end. In a few months he will be drafted into the Army and sent to fight the war. He believes the war is evil and that anyone fighting the war is evil. All three brothers discover their initial held beliefs were wrong. The Brothers Bellum are fictional but the events of the bombing campaign, the incompetence of the SAC operations staff, and the efforts of those fighting the war away from the battle zone are based on fact. You will learn about the heroism of those who fought on all three fronts, about the almost magical world of electronic counter measures, and about how three men realized their place in history.

Download or read book Seneca s Phoenissae written by M. Frank and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first commentary to be written in English on Seneca's Phoenissae, an intriguing work on account of its unusual structure and state of incompletion. The substantial introduction deals, inter alia, with the question of the unity and purpose of the work; the absence of an ending and of choral lyrics; the philosophical, rhetorical, and political content; Seneca's treatment of the Theban legend. The commentary is primarily a literary analysis of the text, but textual, linguistic, metrical, and grammatical difficulties are also elucidated. With the resurgence of interest in Senecan drama in the last two decadese, this book is a valuable addition to English commentaries that appeared on most of the plays.

Download or read book Our Brother in Black written by Atticus Greene Haygood and published by . This book was released on 1881 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Haygood's Our Brothers in Black is a work that concentrates on how best to prepare the freed slaves for full participation in the American community. Noting African American community life, their relationship to the land and to their religion, he advocates education, missionary work and the establishment of black colleges. The book begins by discussing blacks' educational and economic shortcomings but discredits the popular idea that they should be returned to Africa. Haygood gives a detailed study of Lincoln and the motives for the emancipation but is focused on solving the present problem rather than condemning its existence.
