Book excerpt: A roguish earl with a mysterious past may be the perfect match for a sharp-tongued lady in this New York Times–bestselling author’s Regency romance. Lady Irene Wyngate swore she’d never marry, keeping suitors at bay with her caustic tongue. But there’s one man she can’t scare: Gideon, long-lost heir to the Earl of Radbourne. Kidnapped as a child, Gideon grew up tough on the London streets. And though he’s been restored to his family, he’s still more at home in gambling dens than stately ballrooms. When matchmaker Francesca Haughston asks Irene to help civilize Gideon for marriage, she agrees—but only reluctantly. After all, he is a true rogue with a dubious past. A handsome rogue, she has to admit, but as she begins to yield to love, wicked family secrets come to light . . . with devastating consequences for the reluctant lovers.

In contrast to earlier studies, the author locates the origin of this narrative tradition in the oral and written Germanic literary tradition, a result that leads to a re-assessment of the genesis of vernacular German and Scandinavian literature. The chapters deal in chronological order with the Latin chronicles of the Germanic peoples and with the early Latin and vernacular literature in Germany and Scandinavia.

Book Matchmakers Complete Collection The Marriage Wager The Bridal Quest The Wedding Challenge The Courtship Dance

This book was released on 2021-05-01 with total page 1263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enjoy the fan-favourite Matchmakers series from New York Times bestselling author Candace Camp. The Marriage Wager(originally published in 2007) Miss Constance Woodley can scarcely imagine why one of the leading lights of London society should take an interest in the likes of her. But nonetheless, she catches the eye of the handsome, charming and ever-so-slightly notorious Lord Dominic Leighton. And soon, the pair will show the entire ton that even in the heartless world of the marriage mart, when love is at stake, all bets are off. The Bridal Quest (originally published in 2008) Lady Irene Wyngate isn't attracted to Gideon, long-lost heir to the Earl of Radbourne - or so she says, when matchmaker Francesca Haughston asks for her help to civilise him for marriage. After all, he is a true rogue with a dubious past. A handsome rogue, she has to admit, but as she reluctantly begins to yield to love, wicked family secrets come to light...with devastating consequences for the reluctant lovers. The Wedding Challenge(originally published in 2008) Lady Calandra should have suitors beating down her door. But her overprotective brother, the Duke of Rochford, has managed to scare off every suitable gentleman. Every man except the mysterious Earl of Bromwell, that is. Callie finds herself drawn to the enigmatic earl, despite her brother's protestations. But when shadowy secrets about the duke and the earl come to light, it may be too late for Callie to see that she's walked straight into a trap. The Courtship Dance (originally published in 2009) Lady Francesca Haughston has given up on romance for herself, finding passion instead by making desirable matches for others. So it seems only fair when she learns she'd been deceived into breaking her own long-ago engagement to Sinclair, Duke of Rochford, that she now help him find the perfect wife. Francesca is certain any spark of passion between them has long since died. But soon Francesca finds his lessons in love scandalously irresistible - and a temptation that could endanger them both.

Book Bridal quest Epics in Medieval Germany

Download or read book Bridal quest Epics in Medieval Germany written by Sarah Bowden and published by MHRA. This book was released on 2012 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: König Rother, Salman und Morolf, the Münchner Oswald and Grauer Rock (otherwise known as Orendel) have had a troubled position in the literary history of medieval Germany. Forced into a normative generic framework as either 'Minstrel Epic' (Spielmannsepik) or 'Bridal-quest Epic' (Brautwerbungsepik), these texts have been viewed conventionally according to an essentially teleological classification or a schematic ideal. Bowden challenges the premises of such a view with a detailed history of the textual scholarship, and revaluates these so called 'Bridal quests' on their own terms, offering detailed and suggestive readings of each work without the distortions or limitations inherent in the traditional interpretative model. Sarah Bowden is Powys Roberts Research Fellow at St Hugh's College, Oxford.

Book Old Norse Icelandic Literature

Download or read book Old Norse Icelandic Literature written by Medieval Academy of America and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In the past few decades, interest in the rich and varied literature of early Scandinavia has prompted a corresponding interest in its background: its origins, social and historical context, and relationship to other medieval literatures. Until the 1980s, however, there was a distinct lack of scholarship in English that synthesized the critical trends and thinking in the field, so in 1985 Carol J. Clover and John Lindow brought together several of the most distinguished Old Norse scholars to contribute essays for a collection that would finally provide a comprehensive guide to the major genres of Old Norse-Icelandic literature." "The contributors summarize and comment on scholarly work in the major branches of the field: eddic and skaldic poetry, family and kings' sagas, courtly writing, and mythology. Their essays, each with a full bibliography, make up this vital survey of Old Norse literature in English - a basic reference work that has stimulated much research and helped to open up the field to a wider academic readership." "This volume has become an essential text for instructors, and now, twenty years after its first appearance, it is being republished as part of the Medieval Academy Reprints for Teaching (MART) series with a new preface that discusses more recent contributions to the field."
