Book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 63

Download or read book The Complete Works of C H Spurgeon Volume 63 written by Spurgeon, Charles H. and published by Delmarva Publications, Inc.. This book was released on with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 63 Sermons 3545-3561 Charles Spurgeon (19 June 1834 – 31 January 1892) is one of the church’s most famous preachers and Christianity’s foremost prolific writers. Called the “Prince of Preachers,” he was one of England's most notable ministers for most of the second half of the nineteenth century, and he still remains highly influential among Christians of different denominations today. His sermons have spread all over the world, and his many printed works have been cherished classics for decades. In his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to more than 10 million people, often up to ten times each week. He was the pastor of the congregation of the New Park Street Chapel (later the Metropolitan Tabernacle) in London for 38 years. He was an inexhaustible author of various kinds of works including sermons, commentaries, an autobiography, as well as books on prayer, devotionals, magazines, poetry, hymns and more. Spurgeon was known to produce powerful sermons of penetrating thought and divine inspiration, and his oratory and writing skills held his audiences spellbound. Many Christians have discovered Spurgeon's messages to be among the best in Christian literature. Edward Walford wrote in Old and New London: Volume 6 (1878) quoting an article from the Times regarding one of Spurgeon’s meetings at Surrey: “Fancy a congregation consisting of 10,000 souls, streaming into the hall, mounting the galleries, humming, buzzing, and swarming—a mighty hive of bees—eager to secure at first the best places, and, at last, any place at all. After waiting more than half an hour—for if you wish to have a seat you must be there at least that space of time in advance—Mr. Spurgeon ascended his tribune. To the hum, and rush, and trampling of men, succeeded a low, concentrated thrill and murmur of devotion, which seemed to run at once, like an electric current, through the breast of every one present, and by this magnetic chain the preacher held us fast bound for about two hours. It is not my purpose to give a summary of his discourse. It is enough to say of his voice, that its power and volume are sufficient to reach every one in that vast assembly; of his language, that it is neither high-flown nor homely; of his style, that it is at times familiar, at times declamatory, but always happy, and often eloquent; of his doctrine, that neither the 'Calvinist' nor the 'Baptist' appears in the forefront of the battle which is waged by Mr. Spurgeon with relentless animosity, and with Gospel weapons, against irreligion, cant, hypocrisy, pride, and those secret bosom-sins which so easily beset a man in daily life; and to sum up all in a word, it is enough to say of the man himself, that he impresses you with a perfect conviction of his sincerity.” More than a hundred years after his death, Charles Spurgeon’s legacy continues to effectively inspire the church around the world. For this reason, Delmarva Publications has chosen to publish the complete works of Charles Spurgeon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Brethren Evangelist, 1939, Vol. 61: Brethren Church, Ashland, Ohio Of course we understand that the Millennium is as sure as the promises of God. We also know that there is not a saved person living now that will go into the Millennium without first experiencing death or a translation. Christ's coming to take every born again person to heaven is a major event before the Millennium. Neither dictatorship or democracies have anything to offer us that looks as promising as the Word of God. In all of our personal work and individual soul winning, talk heaven. Let the peo ple know that there is only one way to enter in and unless their eyes are on the Lord Jesus and their robes washed in the blood of the Lamb, they have no claim on God or heaven. This is the importance of the subject. We are dealing with souls and that for an eternity. He that winneth souls is wise. Download or read book The Brethren Evangelist Vol 66 written by F. C. Vanator and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-07-18 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Brethren Evangelist, Vol. 66: January 1, 1944 Jesus gave no authority to the disciples to originate ordi nances, and there is no evidence of their having done so. The apostles simply carried out the things which-their Lord had taught them. So when we find the disciples mentioning the love-feast as a regular and undisputed institution of the Christian church, we accept that as evidence that it must have had the authority of the Lord. No amount of argument can make a bit of bread and a. Sip of wine into a feast. Paul speaks of this service in his first letter to the Corin thian church, and says, For our passover also hath been sacrificed, even Christ: wherefore let us keep the feast, Paul, patently, was not referring to the Eucharist alone, but to the entire love-feast, and he speaks of it as if it was well known as one of the services instituted by the Lord. And since the apostle regarded the love-feast as an institution ordained by the Lord to be perpetuated and guarded against misrepresentation, we believe we should do the same. Book Searching for the True Church

Download or read book Searching for the True Church written by Roger N. Shuff and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Roger Shuff holds that the influence of the Brethren movement on wider evangelical life in England in the twentieth century is often underrated. This book records and accounts for the fact that Brethren reached the peak of their strength at the time when evangelicalism was at its lowest ebb, immediately before World War II. However, the movement then moved into persistent decline as evangelicalism regained ground in the postwar period. Accompanying this downward trend has been a sharp accentuation of the contrast between Brethren congregations who engage constructively with the non-Brethren scene and, at the other end of the spectrum, the isolationist group commonly referred to as Exclusive Brethren. Besides being the first scholarly study of Brethrenism in England for nearly forty years, the book will find a wider audience among present and former adherents of the Brethren movement in its various guises. It also offers useful insights for Christian leaders and other professionals who find themselves with pastoral care for people upon whom their encounter with the Brethren has had a profound psychological impact.

It is immutable and universally applicable. Whether in the world of material possessions, or mental endow ments, or Spiritual capacities and powers, what we use we keep and multiply and what. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the life and spirituality of John Cennick (1718–1755) and argues for a new appreciation of the contradictions and complexities in early evangelicalism. It explores Cennick’s evangelistic work in Ireland, his relationship with Count Zinzendorf and the creative tension between the Moravian and Methodist elements of his participation in the eighteenth-century revivals. The chapters draw on extensive unpublished correspondence between Cennick and Zinzendorf, as well as Cennick’s unique diary of his first stay in the continental Moravian centres of Marienborn, Herrnhaag and Lindheim. A maverick personality, John Cennick is seen at the centre of some of the principal controversies of the time. The trajectory of his emergence as a prominent figure in the revivals is remarkable in its intensity and hybridity and brings into focus a number of themes in the landscape of early evangelicalism: the eclectic nature of its inspirations, the religious enthusiasm nurtured in Anglican societies, the expansion of the pool of preaching talent, the social tensions unleashed by religious innovations, and the particular nature of the Moravian contribution during the 1740s and 1750s. Offering a major re-evaluation of Cennick’s spirituality, the book will be of interest to scholars of evangelical and church history.
