Book The Boy with Beans in His Ears

Download or read book The Boy with Beans in His Ears written by Alyse Shetler and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Magic Garden, located in Imnaha, Oregon, began as a mission project headed by Robin Martin. It was the dream of the members of the Joseph United Methodist Church to teach children and members of the community how to plant, grow, and harvest their food, all while encouraging joy in gardening. Over two tons of food have been grown and harvested over the past seven years the Magic Garden has been in operation. Most of the food is given away to kids, schools, and community organizations. And some of the produce is preserved and sold at the local farmers market in the summer and fall months to benefit the Magic Garden Project. The Magic Garden would not be possible without the devoted members of the Joseph United Methodist Church, Janie Tippett for donating the land used, the many community members who volunteer their time and materials, and of course, Robin Martin, whose dream has become a reality with countless hours of hard work, dedication, and of course, love.

"Through the eyes of two young boys and their fathers - one a sergeant with the United States First Infantry, the other a Potawatomi warrior - Jerry Crimmins tells the story of the 1812 struggle of fire and blood known as the Fort Dearborn Massacre." "A suspenseful narrative, Fort Dearborn is also a remarkable historical tale, minutely observed and meticulously documented to preserve and even reconstruct key moments in American history. Using scores of letters, historical documents, maps, and long-forgotten Indian speeches. Jerry Crimmins breathes life into the little-known drama that took place around what is now downtown Chicago."--BOOK JACKET.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The New York Times–bestselling author’s “haunting, compassionate, and terrifyingly true” story of a man breaking free from his notorious past (Gregg Olson, New York Times–bestselling author of Starvation Heights). From 1926 to 1928, Gordon Stewart Northcott committed at least twenty murders on a chicken ranch outside of Los Angeles. He held his nephew, Sanford Clark, captive there from the age of thirteen to fifteen. Sanford would be Northcott’s sole surviving victim. Forced by Northcott to take part in the murders, he carried tremendous guilt all his life. Yet despite his youth and the trauma he endured, Sanford helped gain justice for the dead and their families by testifying at the trial that led to Northcott’s execution. These shocking events inspired Clint Eastwood’s film The Changeling. But in The Road Out of Hell, acclaimed crime writer Anthony Flacco uses revelatory new accounts from Sanford’s son to tell the complete, true story. Going beyond the film’s narrative, Flacco recounts not only Sanford’s nightmarish captivity, but also the inspiring life he led afterward. In dramatizing one of the darkest cases in American crime, Flacco constructs a riveting psychological drama about how Sanford was able to detoxify himself from the evil he’d encountered, offering the ultimately redemptive story of one man’s remarkable ability to survive hell on earth and emerge intact.
