Book The Boy Who Stole Attila s Horse

Download or read book The Boy Who Stole Attila s Horse written by Ivan Repila and published by Pushkin Collection. This book was released on 2015-11-24 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'It looks impossible to get out,' he says. And also: 'But we'll get out.' Two brothers, Big and Small, are trapped at the bottom of a well, stalked by madness and with no means of escape. Struggling for sustenance and clinging to sanity, Big forges a plan to free his little brother. Fast-paced and rich in metaphor, this extraordinary new story poses questions of fight, survival and solidarity when people are faced with devastation. Powerful, disquieting and highly original, Repila's unique allegory explores with bravery and emotion the depths of human desperation and, ultimately, our almost unending capacity for hope.

Book excerpt: "The Wax Fruit Trilogy" brings together Guy McCrone's three classic novels, "Antimacassar City", "The Philistines", and "The Puritans", which chronicle the life and times of the Moorhouse family as they rise from the obscurity of an Ayrshire farm to the position of great prosperity in Victorian Glasgow. The first part of the trilogy introduces the Moorhouse family - Arthur, the successful business man and first of the family to move to Glasgow; David, the dashing and impulsive socialite; Bel, driven by ruthless social ambition; and, Pheobe, the half-sister from the Highlands who grows up to be a great beauty. The second and third volumes follow the changing fortunes of the family, as their lives are touched by triumph and tragedy - in Glasgow at the height of the Victorian era, and in Vienna, glittering capital of the Hapsburg Empire.
