Download or read book A Light in the Darkness written by C. Ernie Nivens and published by Inspiring Voices. This book was released on 2012-08-15 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There was a time when life in a small town in the South meant it was safe for a child to wander the neighborhood alone. In A Light in the Darkness: Insights of a Christian Southern Gentleman, author Ernie Nivens recounts how he took advantage of that freedom and watched and learned from what he saw around him. From the cautionary tale of his cousin Junior to his delight at the many celebrations of southern life, Nivens gives us a loving portrait of a Christians life in the South. Later in life, he would become a popular speaker around the world, first through his twenty-year calling as a United Methodist minister and then through his twenty-plus years as a financial adviser. This unique path has provided him with a distinct view into the depths of human life and hearts. His charming vignettes seek to lift the spirit and challenge the hearta celebration of Gods presence in our lives. Southern-style Christianity echoes from generation to generation with a faith based on the core of the Gospel. In A Light in the Darkness, discover and rediscover what this faith and culture is all about.

Download or read book BETWEEN THE ACTS written by Virginia Woolf and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-12-06 with total page 141 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Between the Acts is the final novel by Virginia Woolf, published in 1941 shortly after her suicide. This is a book laden with hidden meaning and allusion. It describes the mounting, performance, and audience of a festival play (hence the title) in a small English village just before the outbreak of the Second World War. Much of it looks forward to the war, with veiled allusions to connection with the continent by flight, swallows representing aircraft, and plunging into darkness. The pageant is a play within a play, representing a rather cynical view of English history. Woolf links together many different threads and ideas - a particularly interesting technique being the use of rhyme words to suggest hidden meanings. Relationships between the characters and aspects of their personalities are explored. The English village bonds throughout the play through their differences and similarities. Adeline Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was an English writer who is considered one of the foremost modernists of the twentieth century and a pioneer in the use of stream of consciousness as a narrative device.
