Book Dead Sea Psalms Scrolls and the Book of Psalms

Download or read book Dead Sea Psalms Scrolls and the Book of Psalms written by Peter W. Flint and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-10-16 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the Dead Sea Scrolls, Psalms are found in no less than thirty-nine manuscripts. This groundbreaking volume presents the first comprehensive study of these scrolls, by making available a wealth of primary data and investigating the main issues that arise. The first part provides information which many scholars will find enormously helpful, such as descriptions of the manuscripts, listings of variant readings, a synopsis of superscriptions, and indices of contents of all the Psalms scrolls. The second part investigates the issues, some of which are relevant to the Book of Psalms itself (e.g. stabilization in two distinct stages), while others focus upon 11QPsa, the largest Psalms scroll (e.g. part of an edition of the Book of Psalms), and one involves the relation of these manuscripts to the Septuagint Psalter.

Book Luke s Jewish Eschatology

  • Author : Isaac W. Oliver
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2021-03-23
  • ISBN : 0197530605
  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book Luke s Jewish Eschatology written by Isaac W. Oliver and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-23 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Luke, the eponymous author of the gospel that bears his name as well as the book of Acts, wrote the largest portion of the New Testament. Luke is generally thought to be a gentile. This book addresses a question raised by Jesus's disciples at the very beginning of Acts: "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" The question is freighted with political and national significance as it inquires about the restoration of political sovereignty to the Jewish people. This book investigates Luke's perspective on the salvation of Israel in light of Jewish restoration eschatology. It situates Luke-Acts in the aftermath of the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 CE. The author of Luke-Acts did not write the Jews off but still awaited the restoration of Israel. Luke conceived of Israel's eschatological restoration in traditional Jewish terms. The nation of Israel would experience liberation in the fullest sense, including national and political restoration. Luke's Jewish Eschatology builds upon the appreciation of the Jewish character of early Christianity in the decades after the Holocaust, which has witnessed the reclamation of the Jewishness of the historical Jesus and even Paul.

Book The Appointed Festivals of YHWH

Download or read book The Appointed Festivals of YHWH written by Karl William Weyde and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2004 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The author discusses the profile and development of the festivals in ancient Israel in the light of the evidence from the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Particular attention is paid to the sukkot festival, which seems to have been a predominant festival in exilic and post-exilic times. This book contains two parts. The first part is a study of the festival calendar in Leviticus 23, the second deals with texts related to the sukkot festival (the festival of booths) in the Hebrew Bible. Thus, focusing on the last festival of the year mentioned in Leviticus 23, the second part of the book is closely connected to the first. Contents include: Introduction, ""A Sabbath of Complete Rest"" Lev. 23:3, Passover and the massot Festival Lev. 23:5-8, The Grain Festival Lev. 23:10-22, The Trumpet Blasts Lev. 23:24-25, The Day of Atonement Lev. 23:27-32, The sukkot Festival Lev. 23:34-36, Additions to the sukkot Legislation Lev. 23:39-43, The Dedication of the First Temple and the Festival in the Seventh Month. 1 Kings 8, The Psalms and the sukkot Festival, Zech 14:16-21 and the sukkot Festival."

Download or read book The Message of the Psalter written by David C. Mitchell and published by Campbell Publishers. This book was released on 2017-08-22 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What's really going on in the Psalms? Is it just an anthology of old Israelite songs? Or is there more to it than anyone ever guessed? This evergreen classic is the book that first proposed, in 1997, a messianic metanarrative in the Psalms. It explains how someone arranged the Psalms to outline a program of future events like in Zechariah 9-14. There is an appendix of apocalyptic midrashim, translated into English for the first time. A bridegroom-Messiah gathers exiled Israel. He sets up a kingdom, but dies a violent death. Israel are scattered in the wilderness of the nations. Then they are gathered again in troublous times. Finally, they are rescued by a king from the heavens. He sets his throne on Zion and receives the homage of the nations. 160,000 words. Read all about it!

Download or read book Seeing the Big Picture written by Dr Alastair T. Ferrie and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2012-10-22 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To many Christians the Old Testament is a mysterious document, a treasure hidden in the dust of antiquity. It is historical, it tells the story of ancient Israel but has it anything to do with me? Seeing the Big Picture is the story of one mans voyage of discovery. The Bible as a whole is the dramatic story of redemption, which comes to a climax in the New Testament. In every book of the Old Testament the theme of the coming of Christ is there, burning brightly like a lamp in the darkness, heralding the day when the glory of the Christ would burst majestically forth. Suddenly I saw that this was truly one story. It was almost as if someone had turned a light on. I could see things much more clearly and so many aspects of the New Testament study were brought into such clear focus that I understood as never before.
