Download or read book The Book of Scattered Memories written by Eva D Beaty and published by Pageturner Press and Media. This book was released on 2022-09 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story continues in part two of Maggie's Bed and Breakfast. The girls were getting used to their mom being back in their lives but it wasn't long before their mom lost her battle with Memocoma. Maggie finds a book in a box of her mother's belongings that were left for her and her sisters. It turns out to be her mother's diary. Maggie keeps the book to herself as much as possible, wanting to read it first. She discovers some things that are so unbelievable that she has to wonder if they are real or just some of her mom's crazy scattered memories. Things that were hidden in the diary would change the lives of everyone around her for sure. Maggie continues to wonder just what her future holds and learns that she does not need to be related to be sisters. A car crash brings someone new into their lives and she hopes that this will be the end of the secretes. All of this because of a box that contained a Diary full of scattered memories. Her love of Movies and film contributed to her desire to write stories. She wrote her first book, Maggie's Bed and Breakfast (A New Start), in 2013. She was still working, so she would use receipt tape to jot down her ideas at lunch. She completed her thoughts in part two and wrote The Book of Scattered Memories (A Maggie's Bed and Breakfast Story), in 2015. She completed her third book called Sam (a girl undercover) in 2017. She admits to being a daydreamer at heart and enjoys writing her daydreams down on paper for her fellow daydreamers.

Some of these women had never known me before that very moment... ...... but would pour their hearts out to me...... I listened to each one of them. Book Scattered All Over the Earth

Download or read book Scattered All Over the Earth written by Yoko Tawada and published by New Directions Publishing. This book was released on 2022-03-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mind-expanding, cheerfully dystopian new novel by Yoko Tawada, winner of the 2022 National Book Award Welcome to the not-too-distant future: Japan, having vanished from the face of the earth, is now remembered as “the land of sushi.” Hiruko, its former citizen and a climate refugee herself, has a job teaching immigrant children in Denmark with her invented language Panska (Pan-Scandinavian): “homemade language. no country to stay in. three countries I experienced. insufficient space in brain. so made new language. homemade language.” As she searches for anyone who can still speak her mother tongue, Hiruko soon makes new friends. Her troupe travels to France, encountering an umami cooking competition; a dead whale; an ultra-nationalist named Breivik; unrequited love; Kakuzo robots; red herrings; uranium; an Andalusian matador. Episodic and mesmerizing scenes flash vividly along, and soon they’re all next off to Stockholm. With its intrepid band of companions, Scattered All Over the Earth (the first novel of a trilogy) may bring to mind Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland or a surreal Wind in the Willows, but really is just another sui generis Yoko Tawada masterwork.

Book excerpt: When Theatres of Memory was first published in 1994, it transformed the debate about what is to be considered history and questioned the role of “heritage” that lies at the heart of every Western nation’s obsession with the past. Today, in the age of Downton Abbey and Mad Men, we are once again conjuring historical fictions to make sense of our everyday lives. In this remarkable book, Samuel looks at the many different ways we use the “unofficial knowledge” of the past. Considering such varied areas as the fashion for “retrofitting,” the rise of family history, the joys of collecting old photographs, the allure of reenactment societies and televised adaptations of Dickens, Samuel transforms our understanding of the uses of history. He shows us that history is a living practice, something constantly being reassessed in the world around us.

Book excerpt: The Butthole Surfers remain one of the most enigmatic bands in the history of rock music. Most of their records have no information of any kind, and often with the suggestion that you play them at 69 rpm.... They lived like nomads through much of the 1980s, and built their reputation upon tours that never ended, and shows that resembled hedonistic acid tests. They left a heap of former band members in their wake, and have often alienated as many fans as they've attracted. Here for the first time is the complete story of one of the most controversial and dangerous bands to have emerged from the ashes of the punk rock movement. 'Let's Go to Hell' compiles the scattered memories into the first comprehensive overview of the band. Featuring exclusive interviews, tons of rare and unpublished photographs, and analysis of the band's vast recorded (and unrecorded) efforts, 'Let's Go to Hell' finally tells the story that was thought (and often hoped) would never be told...

Book excerpt: In this breakthrough guide to understanding, treating, and healing Attention Deficit Disorder, Dr. Gabor Maté, bestselling author of The Myth of Normal shares the latest information on: • The external factors that trigger ADD • How to create an environment that promotes health and healing • Ritalin and other drugs • ADD adults • And much more... Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) has quickly become a controversial topic in recent years. Whereas other books on the subject describe the condition as inherited, Dr. Maté believes that our social and emotional environments play a key role in both the cause of and cure for this condition. In Scattered, he describes the painful realities of ADD and its effect on children as well as on career and social paths in adults. While acknowledging that genetics may indeed play a part in predisposing a person toward ADD, Dr. Maté moves beyond that to focus on the things we can control: changes in environment, family dynamics, and parenting choices. He draws heavily on his own experience with the disorder, as both an ADD sufferer and the parent of three diagnosed children. Providing a thorough overview of ADD and its treatments, Scattered is essential and life-changing reading for the millions of ADD sufferers in North America today.

Book The Memory Index

Download or read book The Memory Index written by Julian Ray Vaca and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2022-08-09 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this electric speculative YA sci/fi novel, the world treats memories like currency, so dreams can be a complicated business. Perfect for fans of Neal Stephenson and Philip K. Dick. In an alternative 1987, a disease ravages human memories. There is no cure, only artificial recall. The lucky ones—the recollectors—need the treatment only once a day. Freya Izquierdo isn’t lucky. The high school senior is a “degen” who needs artificial recall several times a day. Plagued by blinding half-memories that take her to her knees, she’s desperate to remember everything that will help her investigate her father’s violent death. When her sleuthing almost lands her in jail, a shadowy school dean selects her to attend his Foxtail Academy, where five hundred students will trial a new tech said to make artificial recall obsolete. She’s the only degen on campus. Why was she chosen? Freya is nothing like the other students, not even her new friends Ollie, Chase, and the alluring Fletcher Cohen. Definitely not at all like the students who start to vanish, one by one. And nothing like the mysterious Dean Mendelsohn, who has a bunker deep in the woods behind the school. Nothing can prepare Freya and her friends for the truth of what that bunker holds. And what kind of memories she’ll have to access to survive it. “Vaca’s debut is a thrilling and often unsettling examination of the elusive nature of memory and truth. The Memory Index will leave you breathlessly turning pages until its satisfying conclusion.” —Jonathan Evison, New York Times bestselling author of Small World Get hooked on The Memory Index Duology: Book 1: The Memory Index Book 2: The Recall Paradox (coming Spring 2023)

Download or read book The Book of Memory written by Petina Gappah and published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. This book was released on 2016-02-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story that you have asked me to tell you does not begin with the pitiful ugliness of Lloyd’s death. It begins on a long-ago day in August when the sun seared my blistered face and I was nine years old and my father and mother sold me to a strange man. Memory, the narrator of Petina Gappah’s The Book of Memory, is an albino woman languishing in Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in Harare, Zimbabwe, after being sentenced for murder. As part of her appeal, her lawyer insists that she write down what happened as she remembers it. The death penalty is a mandatory sentence for murder, and Memory is, both literally and metaphorically, writing for her life. As her story unfolds, Memory reveals that she has been tried and convicted for the murder of Lloyd Hendricks, her adopted father. But who was Lloyd Hendricks? Why does Memory feel no remorse for his death? And did everything happen exactly as she remembers? Moving between the townships of the poor and the suburbs of the rich, and between past and present, the 2009 Guardian First Book Award–winning writer Petina Gappah weaves a compelling tale of love, obsession, the relentlessness of fate, and the treachery of memory.
