Book excerpt: Each of us is in the middle of a story. In this astoundingly unique book, bestselling author N.D. Wilson reminds us that to truly live we must recognize that we are dying. Cause of death: life. Death by Living is a poetic exploration of faith, futility, and the incredible joy of this mortal life. N.D. Wilson recounts stories from his life in poetic prose, giving perspective on the life we're given by God. Death by Living explores the topics of family, grappling with the death of loved ones, and how to live with intention to get the most out of our time on Earth. Wilson encourages us to live hard and die grateful, and to see Christ in every pair of eyes. To write a past we won’t regret. All of us must pause and breathe. See the past, see life as the fruit of providence and thousands of personal narratives. We did not choose where to set our feet in time, but we choose where to set them next. We stand in the now. God says create. Live. Choose. Shape the past. Etch your life in stone, and what you make will be forever. In Death by Living, you will: Experience life with renewed wonder Recognize mundane moments as opportunities Learn to live hard and die grateful Recognize death as a gift instead of something to be feared At once inspiring, humorous, and unbelievably moving, this a book that you will read again and again, finding fresh perspective each time you open it.

Groves and Henriette Anne Klauser provide comfort, direction, and hope to the dying and their caregivers through nine archetypal stories that illustrate the most common end-of-life concerns. Drawing from personal experiences, the authors offer invaluable guidance on easing emotional pain and navigating this difficult final passage. With a compelling new preface, this edition also features an overview of the hospice movement; a survey of Celtic, Tibetan, Egyptian, and other historic perspectives on the sacred art of dying; as well as various therapies, techniques, and rituals to alleviate suffering, stimulate reflection, and strengthen interpersonal bonds. The American Book of Living and Dying gives us courage to trust our deepest instincts, and reminds us that by telling the stories of those who have passed, we remember, honor, and continue to learn from them.

  • Pages : 284 pages

Download or read book The Book of ABE written by Alphonso McGriff and published by . This book was released on 2018-10-22 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These writings represent a compilation of poetry, thoughts, perspectives, ideas, and viewpoints which are based on where my consciousness was at the time of the writings, and my own limited understanding of things, my truth.I take pride in being able to give an explanation for whatever I claim to believe or understand. I do not just parrot people who are popular. My explanation does not always bring understanding to others; however, I do develop my own understanding from within. I also take pride in my ability to embrace a change in perspective on the spot if I come into a new understanding that makes more sense . . . to me. As a result, these perspectives can change at any time depending on my continued personal growth and evolution as a Divine Universal Human Becoming. Finally, I have no problem with saying "I don't know."There are a wide range of emotions represented in these writings including, anger, fear, disappointment, joy, pain, and peace. I wanted to share these writings because I think it's important for people to know we all go through many of the same experiences and emotions during our personal evolutionary process. Though some of my perspectives may be unpopular, I welcome the opportunity to answer questions about what my thought process was during the various stages of my writings. The main reason I put this book together is to add my perspective to the many perspectives already out there. I did not feel that my perspective was being heard or properly represented. I also share these writings because for most of my life I have had problems sharing my perspective about issues without people who are extremely protective of their beliefs, becoming emotional and verbally aggressive. I understand those who protect their beliefs; however, protecting beliefs and preventing others from hearing a different perspective are two different things. Those who become emotional and protective of their beliefs should just move away from the conversation, rather than turn the conversation into a toxic experience. I have also come to realize that those who are secure and comfortable with what they believe and understand have no problem with hearing other perspectives. My goal with this book is to offer my perspective. People can take it or leave it alone. I have learned personal growth can only take place within an open consciousness. If by reading this book, it opens your mind a little, I have been successful. There are also some things I have not explained or gone into detail about. This is done intentionally. For those of you who ask "What did he mean by this," I say to you "What does it mean to you?"If for some reason you take anything about this book and its contents personal, I suggest you ask yourself why, and then deal with that, rather than take the easy way out and blame me, the writer, for making you feel some kind of way.I am in the process of dealing with the thought methodology that says "You can't take anything in Life - personal . . . Life gon' do what it do', independent of how you feel about it. Either you gon' Live and Grow, or Live to Die Slow - you got two choices . . . deal wit' it, or leave it alone."When we are sharing information, we should never attack the person; however, we should feel very comfortable with challenging, questioning, and even attacking the thought, perspective, philosophy, and idea that person is presenting.Hate is an emotional poison that destroys our kidneys, cardiovascular system, and spirit. Just try living without these components. Ultimately, harboring hate is a self-inflicted punishment or a slow suicide. Let it go.Enemies are declared by people who are incapable of simply recognizing and accepting reality about a person, group of people, or situation. I don't have to declare anyone as the enemy. I just declare people as understood and act like I know.

Book Living the Life That You Are

Download or read book Living the Life That You Are written by Nic Higham and published by New Harbinger Publications. This book was released on 2018-07-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Living the Life That You Are weaves together psychology, ancient wisdom, and honest personal reflections into a coherent and inspiring whole. If loneliness is the great disease of the modern age, then Nic’s heartfelt plea for self-love is much-needed medicine.” —Jeff Foster, author of Falling in Love with Where You Are When you feel isolated and alone, the world can seem like an enormously unfamiliar, confusing, and scary place. You may get caught up in your own thoughts and feelings, and even avoid connecting with others out of fear of being criticized, misunderstood, or uncomfortable—which only leads to more isolation and loneliness. This cycle can be hard to break, but you are not doomed to endure this painful condition of feeling lost and alone. This book can help you find authentic peace, confidence, and connection with all that is, right here and now. Living the Life That You Are examines the modern-day dilemma of loneliness, revealing that its root cause is the belief that we’re all separate individuals bound by personal limitations. We feel disconnected and incomplete, assuming that life’s fullness exists somewhere out there, and that we must be, do, or have more for lasting fulfillment. But the truth is, despite our limited appearance, we are actually boundless. There is no divide between our internal and external worlds. This is the ancient philosophy of non-duality—we are the wholeness we are seeking. The life that you are is all that is right now: every texture, flavor, fragrance, sight, and sound in their abundance. Using radical mindfulness—a combination of mindfulness and non-dual self-inquiry—this book will guide you toward awakening to the transformative truth and love that is your foundational being. By learning to observe, acknowledge, and question your experience without censorship or prejudice, your sense of being lost and alone will give way to an enriching and comforting state of communion with all. Includes music downloads for a radically mindful soundtrack
