Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vast majority of the global population acquires citizenship purely by accidental circumstances of birth. There is little doubt that securing membership status in a given state bequeaths to some a world filled with opportunity and condemns others to a life with little hope. Gaining privileges by such arbitrary criteria as one’s birthplace is discredited in virtually all fields of public life, yet birthright entitlements still dominate our laws when it comes to allotting membership in a state. In The Birthright Lottery, Ayelet Shachar argues that birthright citizenship in an affluent society can be thought of as a form of property inheritance: that is, a valuable entitlement transmitted by law to a restricted group of recipients under conditions that perpetuate the transfer of this prerogative to their heirs. She deploys this fresh perspective to establish that nations need to expand their membership boundaries beyond outdated notions of blood-and-soil in sculpting the body politic. Located at the intersection of law, economics, and political philosophy, The Birthright Lottery further advocates redistributional obligations on those benefiting from the inheritance of membership, with the aim of ameliorating its most glaring opportunity inequalities.

Book Dream a Lottery Win Tonight

Download or read book Dream a Lottery Win Tonight written by Larry Vingelman and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2013-10-27 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I host book signings and give lectures on lottery prediction, people always ask, If lotteries are random draws, how can they be predicted? I always answer the same way. Lotteries are predictable because we have the ability to redirect subtle energy. With about 20 to 30 people present, I always ask how many are familiar with subtle energies. No one has ever raised their hand. And, why should they! It's only been within the last 30 to 40 years that Science discovered subtle energies and their role in manifesting human desire. It's only been within the last 10 years that this research and experimentation has been available to the general public in books like Lynne McTaggart's The Intention Experiment or Dr. Tiller's Conscious Acts of Creation. As a matter of fact, it has only been this year (2013) that Dr. Peter Higgs won the Nobel Prize for his work on the God Particle. The first subtle energy particle ever found at the new CERN accelerator. With these discoveries and experiments on the redirection of subtle energy, Scientists believe that a new technology has been born. Significantly more powerful than electromagnetic energy, significantly more powerful than nuclear energy, subtle energy technology will bring about new ways for human populations to interact, and new ways to communicate. It will significantly change our health care industry and influence the movement towards world peace. Most interesting, are the time and space attributes of subtle energy that allow the human mind to predict the future and consequently win lotteries. In the science of Quantum Mechanics, experimenting at the level of subtle energy, scientists found that their observations were affecting the outcome of the experiments. Somehow, the experimenter's consciousness was having an effect on our everyday reality of atoms and elements. This led to other experiments many concerning time displacement. As it turns out, subtle energy does not conform to the way you and I experience sequential time. Subtle energy is unbound by time and space - giving it predictive potential. A few daring researchers now understand subtle energy to be a vast field of potential energy supporting our everyday reality and somehow this energy is intimately interconnected with our minds. Consequently, at this stage of subtle energy technology research, researchers are studying ways that the mind can amplify subtle energies to manifest human desires for better health, wealth and abundance, world peace, lasting vitality, and prophetic vision. Dream a Lottery Win Tonight, specializes in the application of subtle energy and its prophetic vision attributes. We accomplish this by activating an energized intention near the mind's source of subtle energy. In this way, we amplify the intention to win a lottery. Of course, we could amplify any intention including those for better health or world peace. We decided on lottery prediction not because it was easy but because it was difficult and because the results are quantitative not subjective. In developing the skill of prophetic vision to win a lottery, we use an energized intention activated as close to the mind's Source of subtle energy as possible. To get close to the Source, we use mantras. These mantras resonate frequencies that are specific to the results we seek. In this case, we use the Lakshmi Mantra, used since antiquity to enhance ones abilities at games of chance. Once close to the source, we activate an energized intention. The intention is energized with emotion and bright sense visualizations. We perform this meditation just before retiring enhancing our dreams allowing us to predict a winning number. In this way, we use subtle energies to win the lottery. Larry Vingelman Author

Book Casanova s Lottery

Download or read book Casanova s Lottery written by Stephen M. Stigler and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In 1994, historian Stephen Stigler placed a mail-order purchase for a rare bit of ephemera from a French bookstore: a lottery Almanac from 1834. It contained the winning numbers for the entire span of the French Loterie from 1758 onward, including details on prizes actually awarded-difficult data to come by-as well as hand-written notes by an early owner. Stigler was fascinated with what he saw about how the Loterie was carried out, who bought tickets, and what size bets they placed, and so in the decades that followed he amassed booklets, legal documents, advertising bills, notices, contracts, and tickets. His own collection and extensive additional research helped him piece together the Loterie's remarkable inner workings, as well as its implications for how we understand the history of risk more broadly. In the 1750s at the urging of famed philandering adventurer Giocomo Casanova (who had recently escaped from a Venetian prison by means of a sharpened iron, an accomplice, a rope of bed sheets, and a stolen gondola), the French state began to embrace risk in its approach to the Loterie. The prize amounts varied depending on the number of tickets bought, and the amount of the bet was determined by each individual bettor. The state could lose money on any individual lot but was statistically guaranteed it would come out on top in the long run. Stigler follows the Loterie from its curious inception to a 1776 expansion, to its interruption during the French Revolution (but only with the Terror of 1793), to its renewal in 1797 and further expansion, and finally to its suppression in 1836, examining throughout the wider question of how members of the public came to trust in new financial technologies and believe in their value"--

Book excerpt: Between 1986 and 2005, nearly every state in the Southeast grappled with one or more proposals for a state-run lottery. The political battles and marketing campaigns leading up to the decisions generated considerable public debate and media attention. Pro-lottery and anti-lottery groups executed costly and labor-intensive campaigns aimed at generating the involvement of the media, politicians, and voters. Using a variety of case studies, Lottery Wars examines those debates and campaigns from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Using thousands of media articles and government documents, in addition to dozens of interviews with politicians, religious leaders, and journalists who covered the campaigns, Bobbitt brings up-to-date the research on state lotteries in the Southeast United States. Accessible and journalistic in style, Lottery Wars is an ideal supplement to any political communication course.

Book Win Your Lottery USA Edition

Download or read book Win Your Lottery USA Edition written by Sharry Cramond and published by . This book was released on 2020-09-27 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There's a famous saying that goes "You've got the same chance of winning the lottery whether you play or not. "Now of course that's not strictly true. You've actually got about a 1 in 292 million chance of winning the Powerball jackpot. But that's about as close to zero as you can get. And yet, every year, the average American spends $219 on lottery tickets. Each hoping they'll be the one.So that's over $4 a week, every week. But if I asked those same people to buy a single $219 ticket once a year, do you think they'd buy one? Of course they wouldn't. Because they could then see how much they'd be losing. But because it's such a tiny, regular amount they can't see it. They never win, but they live in hope. And that's how most people live their lives. They never win, but they live in hope. Because they're playing someone else's lottery. And the odds are just too big. But how about, instead of playing someone else's lottery, you played your own. In fact, how about if you were the only player? Then you'd be sure to win. So that's exactly what this book is about. Learning how to play and win your own lottery, instead of playing and losing someone else's.

Download or read book The Lottery Wars written by Matthew Sweeney and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the infinitesimal odds, more than half of Americans admit to occasionally playing the lottery. We wait on long lines and give up our coffee breaks. We scratch tickets, win, and spend the winnings on more scratch tickets. We play our "lucky" numbers, week in and week out. In a country where gambling is ostensibly illegal, this is a strange state of affairs. In colonial Jamestown, the first lottery was created despite conservative opposition to the vice of gambling. Now, 42 states sponsor lotteries despite complaints of liberals who see them as a regressive tax on the poor. Why do we all play this game that brings no rewards, and leaves us rifling through the garbage for the ticket we swear would be a winner if we could only find it? How has this game persisted, even flourished, in defiance of so much opposition? In this observant, intelligent book, Matthew Sweeney gives a history of the American lottery, stopping along the way to give us the bizarre--sometimes tragic--stories that it makes possible: the five-million-dollar miracle man who became a penniless preacher investing in a crackpot energy scheme; the senator whose untimely injury allowed the lottery to pass into law in his home state; and many others. Written with insight and wit, Dreaming in Numbers gives us the people and the stories that built a nationwide institution, for better or worse.
