Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mary Lou is leaving Hollywood and going home, the place she left years before in order to pursue her dream of becoming a great singer. That dream is dead along with her dreams of marriage and a future with her alcoholic lover, who is bent on drinking himself to death. She is destitute, ill and on the verge of a nervous collapse. She has no choice except to throw herself on the mercy of her father. She knows that even though her dad said she could come, of course he would never turn her away. The last time she came home, she created a scandal which he finds hard to forget. Her father, Aaron Gerhardt, owns a large ranch which he runs in partnership with his son and his family. Their lives consist of hard work, their devotion to God and their small country church. No sooner does Mary Lou arrive than she realizes she is in a particular hell from which there is no escape except to die. Failing suicide and coming to the realization she does not want to die, she has to find a way to live. Even though she doesn't believe in God, she becomes open to the idea that perhaps he is the answer. Along the way, she discovers that God has planned a life for her that is more exciting and satisfying than anything she could have envisioned for herself. This is God's story-a story of redemption, restoration, love, and forgiveness. "And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten," (Joel 2:25 KJV).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The astonishing, Job-like story of how an existence filled with loss, suffering, questioning, and anger became a life filled with shocking and incomprehensible peace and joy. Vaneetha Risner contracted polio as an infant, was misdiagnosed, and lived with widespread paralysis. She lived in and out of the hospital for ten years and, after each stay, would return to a life filled with bullying. When she became a Christian, though, she thought things would get easier, and they did: carefree college days, a dream job in Boston, and an MBA from Stanford where she met and married a classmate. But life unraveled. Again. She had four miscarriages. Her son died because of a doctor's mistake. And Vaneetha was diagnosed with post-polio syndrome, meaning she would likely become a quadriplegic. And then her husband betrayed her and moved out, leaving her to raise two adolescent daughters alone. This was not the abundant life she thought God had promised her. But, as Vaneetha discovered, everything she experienced was designed to draw her closer to Christ as she discovered "that intimacy with God in suffering can be breathtakingly beautiful."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry that is but also is not, taken to unusual levels in an imaginative style that always makes you wonder where you will be taken this time. Poetry, a few short stories and quotes serve as the launching pad for Elaine M. Mullen, also known as the GreenOgress, to introduce more writings that are novel and relevant. Their appeal lies in their diversity and scope: investigating, exploring and exposing both the lighter and darker shades of humanity. Closely followed by Google and known to many via Twitter, Scriggler. com and other writing platforms, she has charmed even the most reluctant of readers to give poetry a second glance and second chance. Be the topics simple or complex, contemporary or historical, internal or external, her maxim is that vague scripting is to be avoided at all costs: I will never use a fi ve-dollar word when a fi fty-cent one will do just as well. As with her three previous books, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!

For Reothe, once her betrothed, once so great a threat to them and now crippled by her powers, still seeks to draw her away. And the lure of the mind-touch - the magical intimacy that she and Tulkhan can never share - is one she cannot ignore...

Book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God

Download or read book Passionate Housewives Desperate for God written by Jennie Chancey and published by Vision Forum. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you struggled to reconcile God's vision of virtuous womanhood with worldly myths that marginalize and mock the role of the homemaker? Do you wrestle with cultural messages that demean the homemaker's calling and exalt instead the emotionally androgynous power-woman---the wife whose worth is measured only by the degree of her self-ambition, the shape of her body, or her money-making skills? Delightfully fresh and honest, "Passionate Housewives Desperate for God" debunks the modern "desperate housewife" myth and provides fresh vision for the homemaker. Hear a former "Christian" feminist share how she went from a die-hard homemaker-in-training to a dedicated career woman, and then back again---after God gripped her heart. See the hollow counterfeit of whitewashed feminism and "me-ology" destroyed. And consider the beautiful picture painted in Scripture of the truly fulfilled homemaker who glories in the hopeful calling God created for her.

Book Inside the Miracles of Jesus

Download or read book Inside the Miracles of Jesus written by Jessica LaGrone and published by Abingdon Press. This book was released on 2019-01-15 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus demonstrated the presence and power of God by performing miracles. He turned water into wine, healed the sick, calmed the storm, opened blind eyes, and raised the dead. While these beloved stories draw our attention to divine power, Christ’s miracles signify something deeper—they’re windows into God’s grand story of human desperation and redemption. Every time we see Jesus performing a miracle, we also get a glimpse into the gift of desperation, a gift that opens us to the dramatic power of God through our desperate need for him. By explaining the meaning and significance of these miracles, Jessica LaGrone shows us their relevance for our lives today. She unpacks how understanding the meaning of Christ’s miracles will help us better grasp the salvation God has brought into the world, see that our weakness is an invitation for God to work powerfully in our lives, and remind us that we need God on our best days just as much as we do on our worst.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This beloved account about an intrepid young Englishman on the first leg of his walk from London to Constantinople is simply one of the best works of travel literature ever written. At the age of eighteen, Patrick Leigh Fermor set off from the heart of London on an epic journey—to walk to Constantinople. A Time of Gifts is the rich account of his adventures as far as Hungary, after which Between the Woods and the Water continues the story to the Iron Gates that divide the Carpathian and Balkan mountains. Acclaimed for its sweep and intelligence, Leigh Fermor’s book explores a remarkable moment in time. Hitler has just come to power but war is still ahead, as he walks through a Europe soon to be forever changed—through the Lowlands to Mitteleuropa, to Teutonic and Slav heartlands, through the baroque remains of the Holy Roman Empire; up the Rhine, and down to the Danube. At once a memoir of coming-of-age, an account of a journey, and a dazzling exposition of the English language, A Time of Gifts is also a portrait of a continent already showing ominous signs of the holocaust to come.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today’s Christian women do not simply want nice fellowships and cookie-cutter answers about how to deal with life. Though churches are filled with good ministry programming—activities, outreach events, and an endless selection of options—many churches neglect their fundamental mission to make disciples. Christian women want to mentor and to be mentored, though they may not fully understand what that means, the significance of this desire, or how to get there. The church must rise to answer these questions, meet life’s challenges, and develop creative ways of equipping modern women to mentor well. In Mentor for Life, Natasha Sistrunk Robinson lays a solid foundation for mentoring that is based on God’s kingdom vision, challenges women to consider the cost of discipleship, and the high calling they have received in Christ. It shows how to develop mentoring relationships that function communally in existing small groups that are diverse and inclusive. It also presents a mentoring framework of knowing and loving God, understanding our identity in Christ, and loving our neighbor, which encourages theological reflection and cultivates a basic Christian worldview. Filled with examples from Robinson’s experience in the military and business world, this resource gives readers the wisdom they need to disciple others and as a foundation for kingdom service.

This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hearing firsthand accounts with people, I began to see a relationship between a kind of unexplained insight into the experiences of others and the previously hidden, unseen effects of my own life story. Like the early morning sunrise after agonizingly long, cold, and dark wintry days, I began to warm to the idea that the chaos and cruelty that scars our lives is not the beginning nor the end of the story for any of us. Listening to these wounded souls I was amazed to discover that I already knew what they would say. I began to realize that the wounds of my own life might have given birth to a Genius ability to connect with others who suffer like I have. Genius may be the other side of our wound!
