Book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Story of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint written by George Reynolds and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Story of the Book of Mormon HE story that we are about to relate is a true one. It is the history of the races who lived on this broad land of ours long, long ago. From it we shall learn many lessons of God's great love for man. We shall also learn how often his love has been spurned, how apt his favored children have been to walk in ways of sin, and how prone to disobey his holy law.' It is a story full of light and shade, one which it will be well for all of us to take to heart, for by so doing our faith in God will increase, and we shall be prompted to strive the more earnestly to avoid the evils that others by their misdeeds have brought upon themselves and their posterity. America, the land we love, is, in our Heavenly Father's eyes, choice above all other lands as the home of his sons and daughters, whom he has placed upon this earth. For all God's creatures are not here. He has made many worlds and filled them with his chil dren. How many we know not; they are countless to us. The stars, that shine in myriads in the heavens, are nearly all suns like the one that gives us light; the remaining few are worlds like unto this on which we dwell; and ours is one of the very smallest of them all. To the works of God there is no beginning, neither is there any end. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism: Its Leaders and Designs My Friends: In writing the following work, I was not actuated by the base design of helping to malign an unpopular people, nor by the unworthy one of administering to mere idle curiosity. I wrote it nether to feed public prejudice, nor to supply public scandal. I wrote it for you; to you, therefore, I dedicate it. I know your sincerity; I know also your delusion. As sincerely deceived as yourselves, I have preceded you to Salt Lake City. Some things of what I there saw, with the reflections they have suggested, are contained herein. Of the much that ought to be said, I have endeavored to say a little. The subject, however, is by no means exhausted. While it is better to learn by personal experience than ever to remain ignorant, it is far wiser to profit by the experience of others. Our chief object has been to give a plain un varnished account of the difficulties which have occurred between the citizens of Missouri and tire latter-day Saints, since they located on their eternal inheritance in Jackson county, Missouri: this we have done with an eye single to truth, denouncing and exposing whatever has been done amiss by either party. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Mormon Prophet IN studying the rise of this curious sect I have discovered that certain misconceptions concerning it are deeply rooted in the minds of many of the more earnest of the well-wish ers to society. Some otherwise well-informed pe0p1e hold Mormonism to be synonymous with polygamy, believe that Brigham Young was its chief prophet, and are convinced that the miseries of oppressed women and tyran nies exercised over helpless subjects of both sexes are the only themes that the religion of more than two hundred thousand people can afford. When I have ventured in con versation to deny these somewhat fabulous notions, it has been earnestly suggested to me that to write on so false a religion in other than a polemic spirit would tend 'to the um dermining of civilised life. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Mormonism: Its Origin, Doctrines and Dangers For a number of years I have been an interested student of Mormonism and have gathered many facts concerning it. On Dec. 17, 1899, I delivered two addresses on Mormonism in the church of which I am pastor. A large number who heard them, and many who did not hear them, have urged that they be published. In compliance with this demand I have rewritten and greatly enlarged them, and in the interest of truth and true religion send them forth to the public. I have used only reliable authority, and have verified all statements made, as far as possible. Reference is duly made to the sources of information, and can be verified by those inclined to doubt any statement. In order to save space I have used a system of abbreviations which is easily understood. I am indebted to Rev. N. S. Burton, D.D., for valuable suggestions and assistance in the preparation of the pamphlet. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The True Origin of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint

Download or read book The True Origin of the Book of Mormon Classic Reprint written by Charles Augustus Shook and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-20 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The True Origin of the Book of Mormon From the year 1834 to the present, the majority of anti-Mormon polemics and writers have held to the view presented in these pages that the Book of Mormon is nothing more than Solomon Spaulding's "Manuscript Found," revamped. Now and then one has been found who has doubted or denied this theory, but, generally speaking, it is the impregnable rock upon which the anti-Mormon forces have taken their stand. Having been raised in the Reorganized Mormon Church, I was, from boyhood, taught that this claim is a myth; that the "Manuscript Found" had come to light in Honolulu, Hawaiian Islands, in 1884, and that it bears no resemblance, whatever, to the Book of Mormon. The influence of this training followed me even after I had apostatized, and for some years, in papers read before ministerial associations and elsewhere, I denied the Spaulding theory and attributed the Book of Mormon to the joint work of Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery. In this position I was, later, confirmed by reading the book, "Doctrines and Dogmas of Mormonism," by D. H. Bays(1897), whose views, I found, coincided exactly with my own. It was not until a copy of A. T. Schroeder's little booklet, "The Origin of the Book of Mormon, Re-examined in Its Relation to Spaulding's 'Manuscript Found, '" fell into my hands that I began to see the strong points in the Spaulding theory which I had overlooked. Book Tell It All

Download or read book Tell It All written by Mrs. T. B. H. Stenhouse and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-28 with total page 638 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Tell It All: The Story of a Life's Experience in Mormonism In these pages, a woman, a wife and mother, speaks the sorrows and oppressions of which she has been the witness and the victim. It is because her sorrows and her oppressions are those of thousands, who, suffering like her, cannot or dare not speak for themselves, that she thus gives this history to the public. It is no sensational story, but a plain, unvarnished tale of truth, stranger and sadder than fiction. Our day has seen a glorious breaking of fetters. The slave-pens of the South have become a nightmare of the past; the auction-block and whipping-post have given place to the church and school-house; and the songs of emancipated millions are heard through our land. May we not then hope that the hour is come to loose the bonds of a cruel slavery whose chains have cut into the very hearts of thousands of our sisters - a slavery which debases and degrades womanhood, motherhood, and the family? Let every happy wife and mother who reads these lines give her their sympathy, prayers, and aid to free her sisters from this degrading bondage. Let all the womanhood of the country stand united for them. There is a power in combined enlightened sentiment and sympathy before which every form of injustice and cruelty must finally go down. May He who came to break every yoke hasten this deliverance! About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
