Book Analysis of the Bio and Nano technological Market of Germany to Find Market Entry Strategies for Chosen IBM Research Developments

Download or read book Analysis of the Bio and Nano technological Market of Germany to Find Market Entry Strategies for Chosen IBM Research Developments written by Daniel Bartel and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011-02 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Essay from the year 2011 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: keine, University of Cooperative Education Stuttgart, course: Intercultural Management, language: English, abstract: In this seminar paper I want to discuss about IBM's efforts in the biotechnology and nanotechnology sector. As the lecture international management designated I will coin these efforts with strategies of market entry within Germany. I have chosen IBM, a US-based company, because it is highly involved in building future technologies. The Company is well known for its activities around the world and sees itself as a globally integrated enterprise. However, cultural attitudes of different countries still determine the success or failure of market entries. Germany is known as a technology-leading country. Also dealing with powerful NGO's the success of new market entry with modern technology might seems less predictable . In the first part of this paper I give a brief description about IBM, its research fields related to the topic and outline four research examples. Followed by an introduc-tion of Germany's cultural attitude to bio- and nanotechnology I provide some strategic suggestions on how IBM could manage the expansion of its efforts within the targeted country.

Book Red biotechnology in Germany

Download or read book Red biotechnology in Germany written by Michael Mallek and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2010 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich BWL - Sonstiges, Note: 1,9, Stuttgart Institute of Management and Technology, Veranstaltung: International Management, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The entrance of biotechnology into medicine, especially driven by new genetic techniques, has led to promising new markets. Biotech companies are spending extraordinary sums in R&D before new technologies generate a return on the investment. In Germany alone biotech companies have spent more than half of their total revenues on R&D in 2008 which accounts for more than a billion Euros. Therefore it stands to reason for biotech companies to exploit as many markets - and thus as many countries - as possible to maximize the return on the investment. In this academic paper Oxford Fertility Unit will serve as a representative example for red biotech companies. It is a Great Britain based fertility treatment and reproductive medicine company offering Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) services. Entering the German market would call for a elaborate market entrance strategy as Oxford Fertility Unit would face challenging market uniquenesses derived from culture and politics for intstance. Hence, it serves as a great case study to exemplify such factors that arise when entering new markets outside the home country and how to deal with them. This paper will focus on the analysis of these factors as a requisite to draft a market entrance strategy.

Book Economic Impacts of Regulatory Uncertainty

Download or read book Economic Impacts of Regulatory Uncertainty written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document explores the impact of regulation on the development of biotechnology, with a focus on Germany where regulatory uncertainty has greatly impacted the biotechnology sector. It begins with an overview of the biotechnology sector in Europe and Germany, and outlines instances where German regulation has discouraged biotechnology investment and encouraged German firms to direct their investments outside the country. This is followed by an outline of other nations' experience in creating favourable climates for biotechnology, the economic impact of the biotechnology market, the evolution of German regulations related to biotechnology research, the social factors that influence the German regulatory environment, and the proposal for an additional regulatory hurdle (related to consideration of social and economic impact) on biotechnology products in the European Union. Finally, lessons for Canadian biotechnology policy are addressed.

Book Finance Innovation and Geography

Download or read book Finance Innovation and Geography written by Felix C. Müller and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-14 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The overarching aim of Finance, Innovation and Geography: Harnessing Knowledge Dynamics in German Biotechnology is to explore linkages between geographies of finance and relational geographies of innovation. This is achieved by questioning how investment activities affect the unfolding of innovations and in turn are affected by it. This book focuses on biotechnology innovation processes from the perspective of relational economic geography. It reconstructs the unfolding in time and space of eight innovations in German biotechnology. Each one is represented in a qualitative case study. The analysis focuses on the relational work of building, transforming, ending and replacing of collaborative relationships and organizational arrangements surrounding emergent innovations ・ including investment relations and relational work by investors. In this way, the contribution of investors to unfolding innovations is studied with sensitivity to context and situated interactions. The geography of these dynamics is conceptualized by drawing on the recent literature on relational proximity and distance as well as ideas of materiality and space. This book provides a unique perspective, and shows that innovation paths are strongly interwoven with local and temporary opportunities as well as crises, and that investment is embedded in these dynamics. This is essential reading for students and academics of both economics and innovation.

Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: "noch nicht bekanntgegeben", University of Cooperative Education Stuttgart, language: English, abstract: For many years now China represents one of the most popular target markets of the internationalisation of enterprises. The speed of economic development and social changes of China during the last years is indeed enormous and far above average. Today China is already the second largest economic nation and for many years receives the highest foreign investments worldwide. In 2002 China became Germany's biggest Asian trading partner taking the leadership over from Japan. Additionally 2012 shall be the German-Chinese cultural year. A comparable rapid change and development can be seen in the field of biotechnology. Over the last few years biotechnology became more and more important, popular and underwent a tremendous boom. Pharmaceutical industry is a sunrise industry, especially the biopharmaceuticals, which just starts its large-scale industrialization process. Many large biotech and pharmaceutical companies are strengthening their presence worldwide and have already entered the Chinese market - Roche, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer, to name but a few. Among these as well BASF operates a joint venture together with the Chinese enterprise Sinopec for the production of high-quality chemical products and polymers. This seminar paper evaluates possible market entry strategies for the small and medium enterprise MediGene AG into China taking account of socio-cultural particularities. Book The Biotechnology Industry in Germany and Japan

Download or read book The Biotechnology Industry in Germany and Japan written by Christian Müller and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotechnology is considered as one of the key high-technology sectors in the future. It has been increasingly accepted that small, innovative businesses were the major stimulus for the development of this emerging industry. Many studies on new entrepreneurial entrants in biotechnology are mainly addressed to the situation in the United States and neglected developments in other countries. Therefore, the present paper concentrates on two latecomers into the industry of biotechnology, namely Japan and Germany, and addresses the question how different institutional frameworks may have an impact on its emergence. More specifically, we investigate the role of venture capital, governmental initiatives, large companies, and entrepreneurship on the development and current situation of the biotechnology industry. The comparison of the biotechnology industry between two countries against the background of their different institutional settings provides some important insights for management scholars as well as policy makers. -- Biotechnologische Industrie ; Japan ; Deutschland

Book The Birth of German Biotechnology Industry

Download or read book The Birth of German Biotechnology Industry written by Claire Champenois and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this paper is to point out the role played by private equity investors (venture-capital companies and corporate investors) in the emergence of a new biotechnology industry in Germany in the second half of the 90's. This analysis takes into account the different business models and business fields to be found in the biotechnology industry. Based on theoretical arguments, a great relevance of VC-companies in financing young innovative biotechnology firms developing health care applications and technology platforms is expected, whereas corporate investors like pharmaceutical and chemical industries should play a more important role in financing supplier companies. Corporate investors are also expected to be significantly present in the equity financing of health care biotechnology companies. Empirical results from descriptive and multivariate analyses confirm all hypotheses but one: surprisingly, corporate investors invested only marginally in the equity funding of biotechnology firms developing new health care products or services.Published in Applied Economics, Vol. 38, No. 5, 2006 under the title of quot; What Kind of Biotechnology Start-Ups Do Venture Capital Companies and Corporate Investors Prefer for Equity Investments?quot.
