This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Biological Foundations of Belief The past two decades have witnessed the rapid growth of an interest in the psychology of religion. Many books have been written in this field since the publication in 1902 of William James's Varie ties of Religious Experience. The recent develop ment of psychology into behaviorism suggests the importance of a behavioristic study of religion. Such a study should reflect the biological tendencies of behaviorism. It should deal with religious be lief in terms of human behavior, having effects upon individual and racial survival. This book attempts to do just this - to study the biological foundations of belief. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Relation Between Religion and Science Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Relation Between Religion and Science Classic Reprint written by Angus Stewart Woodburne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Relation Between Religion, and Science The attempt is made in this thesis to examine the age long problem of the interrelationship of religion and science from a new angle, namely that of psychology considered as a biological science. There is a general recognition today that the elements common to the religions and those common to the sciences are psychological. The facts of religious experience and the facts Of scientific experi ence are so multiform that the only place to discover a common basis is in the attitudes of consciousness giving rise to these variant concrete expressions. Furthermore there is a general recognition among psychologists that the genesis of all the attitudes, including the religious and the scientific, is localizable in the instinctive behaviors of the psycho-physical organism. It seems only fair that psychologists should recognize that those best equipped to define instinctive behavior are the biolo gists. On the basis of a biologically acceptable definition, a sound theory of the origin of religion and science is possible. The theory proposed is that these attitudes have their roots in behavior which, while instinctive, is multiple. In proof Of the contention, refer ence is made to many of the rites and practices of primitive peoples which are recorded in the source books on anthropology. It is the hope of the author that this effort may contribute in some small measure to the solution of a great problem. Book Science a Stronghold of Belief Classic Reprint

Download or read book Science a Stronghold of Belief Classic Reprint written by Richard Budd Painter and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Science a Stronghold of Belief The general plan Of the volume is to present a plain sketch Of the nature Of matter, force, and spirit, as far as science and common sense can decipher them; and to Show that they could not have come of themselves by haphazard and could not work solely by their own self-created powers but must have arisen, and must work, according to the design and purpose Of a Supernatural power. It will also be endeavoured to be proved, that the vital principle, or life force, is a distinct force, and a specially created thing; and, above all, that the intel lectual mind, or spirit Of man, is a quality not only superior to, but essentially different from, the mind Of animals. The author is an Old and devoted student in science, and it will be seen that his constant Object throughout is to endea vour, in a strictly scientific spirit - as distinguished from a mere blind and dogmatic faith - to reconcile modern scientific discoveries, and theories, and philosophic modes Of thought, with the Old belief in God and the Bible, such as was, and is held by so many of the wisest and best men Of the past, and Of the present.
