Book The Arabian Seas Biodiversity Environmental Challenges and Conservation Measures

Download or read book The Arabian Seas Biodiversity Environmental Challenges and Conservation Measures written by Laith A. Jawad and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-30 with total page 1377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arabian Seas Marine Region encompasses marine areas from Djibouti to Pakistan, including the northern part of Somalia, the Red Sea, the Arabian/Persian Gulf, and parts of the Arabian Sea. Human pressures on the coastal and marine environments are evident throughout the region, and have resulted in harmful environmental effects. Oil and domestic, urban and industrial pollutants in several areas of this part of the world have caused local habitat degradation, eutrophication and algal blooms. Further, coastal landfill, dredging, and sedimentation, as well as nutrient and sediment runoff from phosphate mining, agriculture and grazing, and reduction in freshwater seepage due to groundwater extraction are all contributing to the degradation of coastal environments. This book discusses aspects not covered in other books on the region, which largely focus on marine biodiversity, and examines several environmental challenges that are often ignored, but which have a significant impact on the environment. Evaluating the status quo, it also recommends conservation measures and examines the abiotic factors that play a major main role in the environmental changes. Lastly, the book addresses the biodiversity of the area, providing a general context for the conservation and management measures discussed.

Book excerpt: History bends to the will of man when it is exercised with faith and steadfastness. Umar Al Farooq was one such man. He bent history to his will, leaving a legacy that successor generations have looked upon as a model to copy. He was one of the greatest of conquerors, a wise administrator, a just ruler, a monumental builder and a man of piety who loved God with the same intensity that other conquerors of his calibre have loved gold and wealth. . Umar shaped the historical edifice of Islam and whatever Islam became or did not become in subsequent centuries is due primarily to the work of this historical figure. Indeed, Umar was the architect of Islamic civilization. Humankind has a tryst with destiny, to realize its own sublime nature, in the matrix of human affairs. When free will is abused, it reduces humans to the most wretched of creatures. No man understood this better than Umar and few since the Prophet carried this trust with as much wisdom, humility, determination, sensitivity, persistence and courage. Measured by any yardstick, Umar was one of the greatest figures in human history. In this fascinating biography, the well known author Moin Qazi delves into the life and work of the great hero of Islamic history.

Book Making the Great Book of Songs

Download or read book Making the Great Book of Songs written by Hilary Kilpatrick and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2003-09-02 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first systematic literary study of one of the masterpieces of classical Arabic literature, the fourth/tenth century Kitâb al-aghânî (The Book of Songs) by Abû I-Faraj al-Isbahânî. Until now the twenty-four volume Book of Songs has been regarded as a rather chaotic but priceless mine of information about classical Arabic music, literature and culture. This book approaches it as a work of literature in its own right, with its own internal logic and coherence. The study also consistently integrates the musical component into the analysis and proposes a reading of the work in which individual anecdotes and poems are related to the wider context, enhancing their meaning.

Download or read book The True Face of Islam written by Maulana W Khan and published by Harper Collins. This book was released on 2015-11-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets, for the Prophets did not leave behind dinars or dirhams, rather they left behind knowledge, so whoever gains knowledge has gained great good fortune. Hadith by al-Tirmidhi, classed as Sahih by al-Albaani Islam has become synonymous with global political jihad today, and Islamic spirituality is often mistaken for orthodoxy. Then how do young Muslims hold on to their faith? How do they open the door for others to appreciate the true beauty of their religion? In his attempt to understand Islam in its true form, social activist and entrepreneur Raamish Siddiqui brings together the most thought-provoking works of eminent scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan. Through the Maulana's writing, Raamish discovers that it was Prophet Muhammad who first lay the foundations of universal secular education, that Islam believes in gender equality and allegiance to the nation one is born in, and that the Quran makes it obligatory for its adherents to not engage in violence except in self-defence. In a deeply introspective introduction, Raamish talks about his own dilemmas after 9/11 and how he transformed as a person when he learnt to differentiate between the true spirit of Islam and its misappropriation by those who have politicized it. Deeply insightful and, in some ways, provocative, this is a vitally important guide to the most misunderstood religion of modern times.

Book Islam and Evolution

  • Author : Shoaib Ahmed Malik
  • Publisher : Routledge

  • ISBN : 1000405257

Download or read book Islam and Evolution written by Shoaib Ahmed Malik and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-05-03 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book attempts to equip the reader with a holistic and accessible account of Islam and evolution. It guides the reader through the different variables that have played a part in the ongoing dialogue between Muslim creationists and evolutionists. This work views the discussion through the lens of al-Ghazālī (1058-1111), a widely-known and well-respected Islamic intellectual from the medieval period. By understanding al-Ghazālī as an Ash’arite theologian, a particular strand of Sunni theology, his metaphysical and hermeneutic ideas are taken to explore if and how much Neo-Darwinian evolution can be accepted. It is shown that his ideas can be used to reach an alignment between Islam and Neo-Darwinian evolution. This book offers a detailed examination that seeks to offer clarity if not agreement in the midst of an intense intellectual conflict and polarity amongst Muslims. As such, it will be of great interest to scholars of Science and Religion, Theology, Philosophy of Religion, Islamic Studies, and Religious Studies more generally. *Winner of the International Society for Science & Religion (ISSR) book prize 2022 (academic category)*
