Don Everly of the Everly Brothers has died. All The Saints Rejoice in Heaven When a Fallen Angel Flys. This world loves you Don. Thank You for the Music. #DonEverly Andy Kim In 1976, I bumped into Don Everly got to have a few moments with him talking about songwriting, and never forgot the magic their songs and voices. Thank you Don & Phil for a lifetime of great music. Kurt Loder Everly Brothers records always sounded best in fairgrounds. Heartland With the death of Don Everly, Jerry Lee Lewis is the last remaining member of the first group inducted into the Rock 'n Roll of Fame in 1986, a class that included Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly, among others. @ETRaceline @JohnStrothard Brian Wilson I'm sad to hear about Don Everly passing. The Everly Brothers were a big influence on us and we learned a lot from their beautiful harmonies. Love & mercy to Don's family. Jim Irsay Don Everly, whose heavenly amicability with sibling Phil Everly in the Everly Brothers helped shape the course of rock 'n' roll legend. Everly and his sibling, Phil, had hits worldwide in the last part of the 1950s and mid-1960s, including Bye Love and All I Have To Do Is Dream. They were known for their nearby harmonies, and impacted gatherings like The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel. The pair had a dramatic separation in 1973 that prompted a very long term offense, however Phil later read a clock magazine that the siblings' relationship had endure this. The Everly siblings were the offspring of nation and western artists and performed on the family public broadcast while growing up. In their prime, somewhere in the range of 1957 and 1962, they had 15 US top 10 hits. These included Bye Love and Cathy's Clown. The pair tapped out during an exhibition in California in 1973, in which Phil crushed his guitar and strolled off stage. During their time separated, both sought after performance professions with restricted achievement. They rejoined 10 years after the fact with a show in London, trailed by a rebound collection. As the craftsmen they'd enlivened started to show up on the scene, the couple's business fortunes declined. Their last top 10 U.S. hit came in 1962 with "That is Old Fashioned (That's the Way Love Should Be)." In the background, their association was in some cases dangerous - they fought medications, administrators and one another. At a California show in 1973, their fighting ejected in front of an audience and they split, scarcely representing 10 years, during which time they sought after performance careers with minor achievement. Book I Love You a Thousand Ways

Download or read book I Love You a Thousand Ways written by David Frizzell and published by Santa Monica Press. This book was released on 2011-06-01 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I Love You a Thousand Ways is the story of one of the most loved, respected, and imitated singer/songwriters in the history of country music, a man whose songs touched the lives of millions of people. Lefty Frizzell’s relaxed style of singing proved to be a huge influence on a wide variety of country and pop music stars such as Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Roy Orbison, George Jones, John Fogerty, George Strait, and Tim McGraw. In addition to his incredible vocal talents, Lefty was widely recognized for his songwriting skills. He had four songs in the country top ten at the same time in 1951—a feat that would only be repeated one more time on any chart, when The Beatles had five songs on the pop chart in 1964. Among Lefty’s many hits are: “If You’ve Got the Money, I’ve Got the Time,” “Mom and Dad’s Waltz,” “The Long Black Veil,” and “Saginaw, Michigan.” Willie Nelson’s 1977 album, To Lefty From Willie, was a tribute to Frizzell and consisted entirely of cover versions of Frizzell songs. Fellow Texan Roy Orbison was also a devout fan of Frizzell’s sound. In 1988, as a part of the Traveling Wilburys, Orbison chose the name “Lefty Wilbury” in honor of his musical hero. Lefty was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1982. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is a member of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. I Love You a Thousand Ways is a long overdue, beautiful tribute to one of the most underrated musicians of all time, a man whose music continues to influence new generations of musicians and music fans.

Book excerpt: Best known for his unique musical style and blindingly fast hybrid picking technique, English guitarist Albert Lee is often referred to within the music industry as the "guitar player's guitar player," renowned for his work across several genres of music and for the respect that he has garnered from other industry giants. This comprehensive biography tells the entire story of Lee's long career and personal experiences, beginning with his upbringing in south London and his early experimentations with skiffle music (the British equivalent of American rockabilly). It covers Lee's career in Chris Farlowe's Thunderbirds and the British rock and country group Heads, Hands, and Feet, his move to the United States in the 1970s and his subsequent work with Eric Clapton, the Crickets, Emmylou Harris and the Hot Band, the Everly Brothers, and, more recently, with Bill Wyman and with Hogan's Heroes. Lee's career is set against the background of changes in popular music and shows how he, as a British artist with nomadic Romany roots, has influenced traditionally "American" musical genres. The work includes 66 photographs, many from Lee's personal collection, two appendices, and an extensive bibliography.

Book Juke Box Hero

Download or read book Juke Box Hero written by Lou Gramm and published by Triumph Books. This book was released on 2013-05 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lou Gramm rose from humble, working-class roots in Rochester, New York, to become one of rock's most popular and distinctive voices in the 1970s and '80s, singing and cowriting more than a dozen hits with the band Foreigner. Songs such as "Cold As Ice," "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Waiting for a Girl Like You," "Double Vision," "Urgent," and "Midnight Blue" are among 20 Gramm songs that achieved Top 40 status on the Billboard charts and became rock classics still played often, nearly three decades after they first hit the airwaves and the record store shelves. "Juke Box Hero: The My Five Decades in Rock 'n' Roll" chronicles, with remarkable candor, the ups and downs of this popular rocker's amazing life--a life which saw him achieve worldwide fame and fortune, then succumb to its trappings before summoning the courage and faith to overcome his drug addiction and a life-threatening brain tumor. Gramm takes the reader behind the scenes--into the recording studio, back stage, on the bus trips and beyond--to give an insider's look into the life of the man "Rolling Stone" magazine referred to as "the Pavarotti of rock."
