Book Structural and Tectonic Modelling and its Application to Petroleum Geology

Download or read book Structural and Tectonic Modelling and its Application to Petroleum Geology written by R.M. Larsen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph presents a unique combination of structural and tectonic modelling with applied petroleum geological problems. Focussing on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and neighbouring areas, it includes discussion covering all scales - from development of sedimentary basins, to formation of fractures and joints on a microscale - and from exploration, to the exploitation of hydrocarbons. The book's coverage of structural and tectonic modelling, petroleum geology applications, and the treatment of the Norwegian Continental Shelf should make this book an invaluable resource book for advanced students of structural and tectonic modelling, teachers, and researchers; as well as for geologists and geophysicists in the petroleum industry.

Download or read book Transform Margins written by M Nemcok and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2016-09-26 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume reviews current knowledge of transform margins and addresses fundamental questions for future research. Furthermore, the articles look at principal factors that influence the dynamics, kinematics and thermal regimes of continental break-up at transform margins and cover geophysics (bathymetry, seismic, gravity and magnetic studies), structural geology, sedimentology, geochemistry, plate reconstruction and thermo-mechanical numerical modelling.

Book Lower Permian Colonial Rugose Corals Western and Northwestern Pangaea

Download or read book Lower Permian Colonial Rugose Corals Western and Northwestern Pangaea written by Jerzy Fedorowski and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The most comprehensive summary available on the stratigraphic occurrence, geographic distribution, phylogeny, and taxonomy of Early Permian colonial rugose corals that occupied the Cordilleran - Arctic - Uralian (CAU) Realm, along the northwestern and western marine shelves and accreted terranes of the ancient supercontinent Pangaea. It is based on all previous studies by other coral specialists, a thorough review of all published data, and on information from a very large number of new collections from new areas. This book contains a new classification and phylogenetic scheme, based on critical restudy of the entire coral fauna at all taxonomic levels."--Publisher's website.

Book New Perspectives on the Caledonides of Scandinavia and Related Areas

Download or read book New Perspectives on the Caledonides of Scandinavia and Related Areas written by F. Corfu and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2014-04-14 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Caledonides are a major orogenic belt that stretches from the Arctic, through Scandinavia, East Greenland, Britain and Ireland into the Atlantic coast of North America. Following the break-up of Rodinia, the Caledonides formed in the Palaeozoic by the drifting of various continents and their eventual aggregation in the Silurian and Devonian. The orogen subsequently fragmented during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. This volume brings together 25 papers presenting the results of modern research that investigates the orogenic processes and the provenance of specific components of the belt. The contributions reflect different lines of research, linking traditional field studies with modern analytical techniques. In addition three overview papers summarize the main features of the belts in Scandinavia, Svalbard, East Greenland, Britain and Ireland, highlighting the advances made since the last major synthesis of the Scandinavian Caledonides 30 years ago, and discussing important open questions.

Book Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential

Download or read book Arctic Geology and Petroleum Potential written by T.O. Vorren and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the search for hydrocarbon resources in the Arctic started in the 1930's the exploration activity has expanded into many of the Arctic regions, and several of the Arctic sedimentary basins have proven to be important sources of hydrocarbon. Nevertheless, the Arctic continental margins and adjacent onshore areas are still largely unexplored in the context of petroleum, and are therefore considered to be one of the few regions in the world where significant undiscovered sources of hydrocarbon may exist. The aim of the book is to give an updated overview of the geology of the Arctic sedimentary basins and their petroleum potential. Although the different basins vary significantly as regards sedimentary fill and tectonic evolution, many of the basins share some of the characteristics needed to become prolific oil and gas provinces. The book contains 45 extensively illustrated articles. It starts with papers on the Mesozoic source rocks, and oceanic natural gas clatrates in the Arctic, respectively. Then follow articles on the regional and petroleum geology of the main regions; Greenland, North American Arctic, Soviet Arctic and the Barents Sea. Particular emphasis is placed on the Barents Sea. The two last chapters comprise articles on salt dynamics and methods. The book closes with a paper on international law in the Arctic. This volume will be of interest to both students and professional earth scientists/petroleum explorationists working in the northern latitudes. It will allow the readers to stay abreast of the development in this climatic region of the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Making of a Land - Geology of Norway" takes the reader on a journey in geological time, from primordial times to the present day. A fantastic journey from the summits of Norway's spectacular rugged and weather-beaten mountains to the riches concealed in the sedimentary rocks on the continental shelf. This book displays the treasures of Norwegian geology for everyone to see. Norway's geological resources represent the foundation of its welfare state. During several centuries first the mining, and then the oil industries have been economic mainstays, and this will continue in the future. The book presents a description both of Norway and the planet we inhabit and depend on for our survival. It is lavishly illustrated with photographs and maps from all over the country.

Book Intra continental Fold Belts CASE 1 West Spitsbergen

Download or read book Intra continental Fold Belts CASE 1 West Spitsbergen written by Franz Tessensohn and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The onshore geology can provide direct access to critical rock formations and structures and is therefore able to add detail, support or modification to the story of the formation of the oceanic basins in the Arctic and North Atlantic, a story initially derived from offshore geophysical data. The CASE program has since been modified to the study of Circum-Arctic Structural Events, it has continued to the completion of expedition CASE 6 in 2000 and has been extended to include work in North Greenland, Ellesmere Island and Siberia. The general concept of onshore/offshore correlations, however, is unchanged.
