Book excerpt: We live in a polarized time. Christians are quick to conceive of themselves either as theologically-minded or worship-minded; either thinking Christians or feeling Christians. The results are damaging: theology without worship is muted, stifled, and cold, and worship without theology is ungrounded, unrooted, and uninformed. This is not the way it was meant to be. Theology (our study and knowledge of God) should always lead to doxology (our worship of Him). Worship should always be rooted in theology. When we study the nature and character of God as revealed in his Word, we are invited to respond in the affectionate, obedient discipleship of worship. How can we keep our theology from being mere head knowledge? How do we give our worship roots that will last? By fixing our eyes on God Himself—the object of our study and the object of our worship. Fix Your Eyes is an invitation to understand core doctrines of the Christian faith and apply them in our daily worship of God. It walks believers through key theological concepts and shows how each can be lived out in daily life.

Book Holiness for Growing Christians

Download or read book Holiness for Growing Christians written by Allan Brown and published by . This book was released on 2019-09-15 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you long to be more like Jesus? Do you desire to live a holy life? Do you seek to answer the Spirit's call: "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy'" (1 Peter 1:15- 16)? If so, this book was written for you. Unfortunately, many Christians are confused about what the Bible teaches about living a holy life. I've had students who came from good Gospel-preaching churches who were not sure they even believed in what they heard called "holiness." Either their church did not speak much about it or what they heard seemed legalistic or unattainable. It is sad that there is so much careless and sometimes contradictory teaching about this vital subject. The aim of this book is to be as biblically and contextually accurate as possible in the use of words and phrases such as "holy, holiness, sanctify, the Spirit-filled life, and entire sanctification." Further, I seek to limit my comments to what the Scriptures actually affirm. I do not attempt to answer every question that can be raised when talking about the biblical doctrine of sanctification. Rather, I seek to affirm what Scriptures affirm and leave unsaid what Scriptures do not say. I think any reader of Scripture will agree that God does command Christians to be holy. The burning question is: "What does God mean when He commands us to be holy?" This book is an attempt to answer that question.

Download or read book Bible School 1 Semester 2 written by Shofar Christian Church and published by Shofar Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-01 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bible teaches us that there is nothing more important than becoming like Jesus. The life of Jesus not only shows the full picture of who God is, but He also shows us what it means to be human. He is the quintessential man. In Him we see what a perfect relationship with God looks like, what our moral outlook should be, and what constitutes a good and worthy life. Through the ages, the church has confirmed that the Bible is both the standard and the guide that instructs, confronts and inspires us in the process of following Jesus. The way we see, understand, and experience God, ourselves, and the world around us should thus ultimately be based upon what the Bible teaches us. This Bible School course is therefore intended to help you to build your life around the Word of God.

Book The Pedagogical Bible School

Download or read book The Pedagogical Bible School written by Samuel B. Haslett and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Pedagogical Bible School: A Scientific Study of the Sunday School, With Chief Reference to the Curriculum It is a real pleasure for me to accede to Mr. Haslett's request that I write a word of introduction to his book. A good part of the work was done while the author was attending my seminary and taking lectures in Clark University. While I cannot say that I agree with Mr. Haslett in all points, I do believe that the spirit and method of his work mark a noteworthy advance in Sunday-school work and are emphatic protests against many abuses and antipedagogical methods now widely in use. The writer takes the standpoint of the religious and moral nature and needs of the child, has studied the Sunday-school and the literature upon it for years with great diligence and has here written a book sure to benefit all Sunday-school workers who read it. The plain precepts of common sense seem to suggest that in a large general way the order of the books in both the Old and the New Testament as they stand are genetic and pedagogic. Book Toward a Harmony of Faith and Learning

Download or read book Toward a Harmony of Faith and Learning written by Kenneth O. Gangel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2002-03-05 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bible college is a major force in the evangelical church of North America today, producing many of its leaders and 75 percent of its missionaries. Underlying the educational philosophy of the bible college is the concept that the teachings of scripture are foundational and permeating truths that impact all areas of life. Not until now has any book presented the biblical model of faith and learning as a practical paradigm for an educational institution. Toward a Harmony of Faith and Learning: Essays on Biblical College Curriculum is a comprehensive presentation of the unique educational philosophy of the bible college. The overall structure of the book follows the threefold curriculum pattern of the bible college - biblical, professional, and general (liberal arts) studies. Each chapter examines one academic discipline within the bible college, its biblical foundation and philosophical rationale. Practical suggestions on curriculum development and classroom implementation are provided in each chapter, including helpful ideas on teaching methods, textbook selection, student involvement, and student preparation for future service or vocational ministry.
