Download or read book The Bible Or the Axe written by William O. Levi and published by Winepress Pub. This book was released on 2004 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Bible or the Axe" is the dramatic true story of faith tested by fire in war-torn South Sudan. By the muddy banks of the Kulo-jobi River, a young Sudanese boy is faced with a decision that will shape the rest of his life. William Ochan Levi, a Messianic believer from an African Hebrew tribal group, grew up as a refugee in the wilderness of Uganda. As a teen he returned to his homeland, only to face persecution, arrest, and torture. His miraculous escape from jihad forces was the first step in an odyssey that ultimately led to a new life in the United States. William later founded Operation Nehemiah Missions, International - dedicated to rebuilding the minds, bodies, and spirits of the Sudanese people who have been brutalized by war and persecution. What tools should Christians use to fight the war in Sudan and other Muslim countries -- the Bible or the axe? Learn the depths of forgiveness and the power of Christ's love to triumph.

By the muddy banks of the Kulo-jobi River, a young Sudanese boy is faced with a decision that will shape the rest of his life. William Levi was born in southern Sudan as part of a Messianic Hebrew tribal group and spent the majority of his growing up years as a refugee running from Islamic persecution. He was eventually taken captive for refusing to convert to Islam and suffered greatly at the hands of his captors. After escaping Islamic forces, William eventually came to the United States where he attended college. Since that time, he has been sharing his story nationwide and petitioning members of congress to take action to end the violence in Sudan. His story of deliverance will touch the hearts of believers and raise their awareness to the plight of our Sudanese brothers and sisters in Christ.

Book excerpt: The Good Life was a publication that was sent out on a semi-regular basis to a small group of friends/colleagues/subscribers beginning in November 1993 and concluding in September 2002. This book is a compilation of those issues. The subject material is varied and diverse---the bulk of it is a recounting of real life experiences, both mundane and dramatic, frequently analyzed from sociological, philosophical, psychological and humanistic perspectives. It also includes commentary on sociological issues, as well as topical commentary on the events of the day: the O.J. Simpson trial, the death of Princess Diana, and September 11, 2001. Sports topics of the day are discussed, and a smattering of poetry is also included, as well as reader commentary. It is an open-minded and multi-faceted book unlike any other you have read or will read.

Book With Axe and Bible

Download or read book With Axe and Bible written by Lucille H. Campey and published by Dundurn. This book was released on 2007-05-31 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Brunswick’s enormous timber trade attracted the first wave of Scots in the late 18th century. As economic conditions in Scotland worsened, the flow of emigrants increased, creating distinctive Scottish communities along the province’s major timber bays and river frontages. While Scots relied on the timber trade for economic sustenance, their religion offered another form of support. It sustained them in a spiritual and cultural sense. These two themes, the axe and the bible, underpin their story. Using wide-ranging documentary sources, including passengers lists and newspaper shipping reports, the book traces the progress of Scottish colonization and its ramification for the province’s early development. The book is the first fully documented account of Scottish emigration to New Brunswick ever to be written. Most Scots came in small groups but there were also great contingents such as the Arran emigrants who settled in Restigouche and the Kincardine emigrants who settled in the Upper St. John Valley. Lowlanders were dispersed fairly widely while Highlanders became concentrated in particular areas like Miramichi Bay. What factors caused them to select their various locations? What problems did they face? Were they successful pioneers? Why was the Scottish Church so important to them? In tracing the process of emigration, author Lucille H. Campey offers new insights on where Scots settled, their overall impact and the cultural legacy which they left behind. With axe and bible Scots overcame great hardship and peril and through their efforts created many of the province’s most enduring pioneer settlements.

Book excerpt: Named A Best Book of the Year by World Magazine Throughout his distinguished and unconventional career, engineer-turned-molecular-biologist Douglas Axe has been asking the questions that much of the scientific community would rather silence. Now, he presents his conclusions in this brave and pioneering book. Axe argues that the key to understanding our origin is the “design intuition”—the innate belief held by all humans that tasks we would need knowledge to accomplish can only be accomplished by someone who has that knowledge. For the ingenious task of inventing life, this knower can only be God. Starting with the hallowed halls of academic science, Axe dismantles the widespread belief that Darwin’s theory of evolution is indisputably true, showing instead that a gaping hole has been at its center from the beginning. He then explains in plain English the science that proves our design intuition scientifically valid. Lastly, he uses everyday experience to empower ordinary people to defend their design intuition, giving them the confidence and courage to explain why it has to be true and the vision to imagine what biology will become when people stand up for this truth. Armed with that confidence, readers will affirm what once seemed obvious to all of us—that living creatures, from single-celled cyanobacteria to orca whales and human beings, are brilliantly conceived, utterly beyond the reach of accident. Our intuition was right all along.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Reading the Bible with Horror, Brandon R. Grafius takes the reader on a whirlwind tour through the dark corners of the Hebrew Bible. Along the way, he stops to place the monstrous Leviathan in conversation with contemporary monster theory, uses Derrida to help explore the ghosts that haunt the biblical landscape, and reads the House of David as a haunted house. Conversations arise between unexpected sources, such as the Pentateuch legal texts dealing with female sexuality and Carrie. Throughout the book, Grafius asks how the Hebrew Bible can be both sacred text and tome of fright, and he explores the numerous ways in which the worlds of religion and horror share uncomfortable spaces.

Peter and Brenda Griffiths, Stephen's parents, and their team had set up a superb secondary school, only for guerrillas to slaughter almost all the staff. After their funerals Peter maintained that forgiveness for the attackers was the Christian thing to do. This is an inspiring story of Peter and Brenda's courage, sacrifice, and faithfulness in God, who despite the atrocities, continues to build His church in Zimbabwe.

Book The Disciple Making Pastor

Download or read book The Disciple Making Pastor written by Bill Hull and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2007-10-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christ commanded the church to make disciples, to produce people who love and obey God, bear fruit, and live with joy. The crisis at the heart of the church is that we often pay lip service to making disciples, but we seldom put much effort behind doing it. For the pastor who is ready to put words into action, The Disciple-Making Pastor offers the inspiration and practical know-how to do so. Bill Hull shows pastors the obstacles they will face, what disciples really look like, the pastor's role in producing them, and the practices that lead to positive change. He also offers a six-step coaching process to help new disciples grow in commitment and obedience and practical ideas to integrate disciple making into the fabric of the church.
