It is true that without some care in your interpretation, you can "make" the Bible say almost anything. Dig Deeper is written out of the conviction that there is a right way to understand the Bible and a wrong way, and the authors show us how to read it correctly. Dig Deeper offers sixteen "tools" readers can use to get to the bottom of any Bible passage and discover its intended meaning. Examples show how each tool helps readers discover something exciting and relevant in a passage, and the "Dig deeper" exercises offer the opportunity to practice using the tools. Book Daily Bible Study Summer 2022

Download or read book Daily Bible Study Summer 2022 written by Michelle J. Morris and published by Cokesbury. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Daily Bible Study is a great companion to the quarterly Adult Bible Studies or as a stand-alone study. It is presented in quarterly segments. Bible-based, and Christ-focused, it coordinates with the lesson themes of Adult Bible Studies. Each daily reading includes a one-page Bible study for each day of the quarter, along with introductory reflection questions and commentary on the daily Scripture passage, life application, and a concluding prayer. Daily Bible Study Summer 2022 Theme: Transform The lessons this quarter begin with a look at the ministry of the Holy Spirit that brings new life to us as members of the body of Christ. Jesus tells the disciples in John’s Gospel that he must leave so that the Comforter or Holy Spirit could come. The Spirit will lead and guide us into all truth and bring gifts and graces to all who will receive them. This transforming power prepares us for ministry in the world. The Holy Spirit’s work in empowering us to be the church and carry out its mission is not limited to time and space. The lessons in Unit 2 take us through a series of events in the context of Jewish and Gentile hostility in which we see how the Holy Spirit moved the church forward to serve others. The final four lessons in this quarter explore a problem that has plagued humankind throughout the ages—violence! How do we as the people of God confront and overcome this menace to the faith? Unit 1: The Fruit of the Spirit Paul used the metaphor of fruit to help us understand that our lives are like the firstfruits of offering. Through participation in Christ’s crucifixion through baptism, we have offered our lives to God’s service. The Holy Spirit then gives us gifts to display. Scriptures: Acts 2:1-4, 17-21, 33, 38-39; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16; Galatians 5:13-21; Galatians 5:22-26 Spiritual Practice: Silence Unit 2: The Work of the Church These lessons take us through a series of events in the Book of Acts in which the activity of the Holy Spirit drives the action forward. The lessons in Unit 1 identify the gifts granted to us by the Spirit; these lessons look at the path on which the Spirit directs our lives and how the Spirit is already active before we arrive at our destination. Scriptures: Acts 4:23-31; Acts 8:26-39; Acts 11:1-18; Acts 15:1-21; Acts 16:25-34 Spiritual Practice: Service Unit 3: The Pursuit of the People God’s word established a created order that depends on fruitfulness and cultivation rather than violence to maintain it, but humanity through its rivalries brings violence into God’s created order. It is clear from Scripture that God’s intent is to reestablish shalom, the Hebrew word that means “a shared well-being and abundance.” While violence remains a part of the created order, God does not quietly sanction the human use of violence and calls us to imitate God’s love and work toward shalom. Scriptures: 1 Chronicles 22:6-10, 17-19; Matthew 5:9, 38-48; Ephesians 2:11-22; Matthew 26:47-56 Spiritual Practice: Remembering

Book The Hidden Keys in the Bible

Download or read book The Hidden Keys in the Bible written by Vernon Atkins and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-01-24 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is it really possible to unlock the mysteries of hidden secrets that are contained within the Bible? And what would be the reason for God and/or his Son to lock up true knowledge of who he and his Son is from his children, whom he says he loves very much and wishes that none should perish? Could it be that God wants to see if his children would go all out to know him and his Son? This would show true love for the parents, and God and his Son is no different than any other parent. They want to see how much the children loves them, and what better way for the child to show the parents that they are very much loved by the children than for the children to obey the parents, completely, without question. For the child at that point when the parent jumps for joy, for the child has shown very much respect for his parents, our God and his Son are no different than the parents of human children. It's almost like when a human parent hears for the first time their child say "Papa" or "Mama." It is complete joy to the parents, and likewise to the Father and his Son, when they see the children taking the time to seek them out, to know them firsthand. It is the same feeling as the human parents feel when the child says "Papa" or "Mama." This is when the Father starts to open up doors that were hidden from the rest of the world. This is how he shows you his love for you. The Father slowly releases his Spirit (Holy) a little bit here and there. It is only when you begin to put the pieces together that it becomes clear, and a key is given unto you; and the more you study his Word, his Bible, he releases more knowledge that is hidden from the rest of the world. Remember, the more you seek out the Father, the more he releases his knowledge to you. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). What is 2 Timothy 2:15 saying? The Father is telling you to not put your trust in man (minister) to reveal his truth but to seek for him yourself. All you need to do is knock, seek, and ask with a pure heart, and he will come to you and be your God, and you will be his son or daughter. Those who have ears will hear. God bless us all.

Book The Dna of Scripture

Download or read book The Dna of Scripture written by Karl L. Dahlstrom and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-05-27 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By utilizing a relatively unknown natural law of science, we are able to reveal the hidden pattern and divine structure of the Holy Scripture, which, by definition, proves its authenticity. This book is a unique defense of the Bible, and thus by extension that of Christianity, by providing a proof of the veracity of the Word of God in a scientific manner outside the Bible itself, which previously has not been accomplished. The author will demonstrate that the same true natural law of science, the Law of First Digits as described in chapters 2 and 3, when applied to the Holy Scriptures of the Bible, proves the presence of Gods unfathomable intelligence in creating and preserving the truthfulness of His Word. Moreover, this proof extends to the identification of God as the only true God of the universeto the exclusion of all others. That is a very powerful and controversial statement but one that can be backed up. If one proves the entirety of the Scripture as true, then it follows that the God referred to in those same Scriptures is and must be the one true God of the universe.

Download or read book Beyond the Firmament written by Gordon J. Glover and published by Watertree Press LLC. This book was released on 2007 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As debates within the Church over the scientific details of creation become more frequent, the experts seem to grow more entrenched while the rest of us only become more confused. Somewhere between the endless arguments over distant starlight and Carbon-14 dating, calculating the mathematical improbabilities of things that already exist, and parsing ancient Hebrew and Greek, somebody needs to ask the simple question, If 3,500 years of scientific progress can't help modern Christians figure out Genesis, then how could the ancient Israelities possibly have understood it so well? What secret did this newly liberated gaggle of Hebrew nomads take with them out of Egypt that holds the key to understanding God's telling of His own creation story? Beyond the Firmament challenges all creationist camps --whether Young-Earth, Old-Earth, or Theistic Evolutionist -- to step outside of traditional paradigms and recognize how our modern, Western, post-Enlightenment scientific worldview actually blinds us from seeing the simple truth of Creation as it was originally intended, and how our failure to grasp the theological significance of the Biblical creation model puts science and faith on a collision course.
