Book The Faith to Walk on Water

Download or read book The Faith to Walk on Water written by Lindsey Bethel and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013-04-18 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sand between my toes, the salt air wrapping around me like a warm, summer blanket, the crashing of waves, and the meeting of sky and water. The beach is where I see the handiwork of God. As a young child, it was there that I wished that I could walk on the water as Jesus and Peter had in Matthew 14. It was there that I learned of faith, the faith that requires you to not only step out of the boat but also to focus on Jesus and learn to walk toward Him daily. It is not enough to just get out of our comfort zones, but now we need to learn to grow and walk toward Him constantly. The Faith to Walk on Water takes a look at why standing still in our faith is no longer an option, how doubt and fear are overcome by Jesus. He does not watch from a distance, but He is always there holding out His hand for us to take hold. So what are you waiting for? Take that step, and walk on the water!

Book Matthew Henry The Bible Prayer and Piety

Download or read book Matthew Henry The Bible Prayer and Piety written by Paul Middleton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three hundred years after his death, Matthew Henry (1662–1714) remains arguably the best known expositor of the Bible in English, due largely to his massive six-volume Exposition of the Old and New Testaments. However, Henry's famous commentary is by no means the only expression of his engagement with the Scriptures. His many sermons and works on Christian piety - including the still popular Method for Prayer - are saturated with his peculiarly practical approach to the Bible. To mark the tercentenary of Henry's death, Matthew A. Collins and Paul Middleton have brought together notable historians, theologians, and biblical scholars to celebrate his life and legacy. Representing the first serious examination of Henry's body of work and approach to the Bible, Matthew Henry: The Bible, Prayer, and Piety opens a scholarly conversation about the place of Matthew Henry in the eighteenth-century nonconformist movement, his contribution to the interpretation of the Bible, and his continued legacy in evangelical piety.

Book Supporting Crisis Survivors

Download or read book Supporting Crisis Survivors written by Everton I. Anderson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-07-22 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CHAPTER ONE CRISIS AND TRAUMAS V PRESENT EVERYWHERE What are the Distinguishing Traits of a Crisis? Research has shown that the Chinese word for crisis involves two characters; one means danger, and the other means opportunity. One psychologist summarized the peculiarities in this manner: A crisis is a turning point that usually cannot be avoided. They are filled with danger because they disrupt life and threaten to overwhelm the people who are affected. Furthermore, a crisis also present people with the opportunity to change, grow, and develop better ways of coping. Since people in crisis often feel confused and helpless, they tend to be more opened to receive outside help, including the help that comes from rescue workers, from counselors and from God. CHAPTER TWO THE MULTIFARIOUS ELEMENTS OF LOSS Increasing Number of Loss Individuals seem to cope with losses better when they are occasional. Yet after the age of 50 or 60, they pass into a period of increasing number of losses. Still grieving from the previous loss, it is ever so hard to make sense of the current one. Furthermore, if one had never learnt to deal effectively or contend with occasional losses, then it is inevitable having several will be catastrophic. Equally important is that each type of loss brings its own kind of suffering and reaction. CHAPTER THREE PURPOSE OF CRISIS COUNSELING When a visit is made, if the crisis counselor does not have an objective, the appointment will be unsuccessful. Therefore, the underlining purpose of crisis counseling is to support the hurting, and not to encourage the avoidance of reality. This means the counselor advises individuals in crisis to admit the crisis, express grief normally and arrive at a healthy resolution. CHAPTER FOUR THE CRISIS OF DEATH AND DYING Although human suffering in multiple dimensions is a factor of life which causes great pain and human anguish, it must not be used as a reason for justifying the direct taking of human lifeKGod must always be understood as the Creator and Sustainer of life. It was Norman St John-Stevas who articulated this view skillfully: The value of human life for the Christian in the first century A. D., as today, rested not on its development of superior sentience but on the unique character of the union of a body and soul, both destined for eternal life. The right to life thus has a philosophical foundation K Respect for the lives of others, because of their eternal destiny is the essence of the Christian teaching. CHAPTER FIVE COMFORTING THE SUCIDAL AND VICTIMS FAMILY The following are invaluable principles that are crucial to the helpline counseling methods: The Suicidal X Activity. The person needs to feel that something is being done for him or her right now. This solemn promise or guarantee can alleviate his or her anxiety. X Involvement of others. If the caller realizes that others are now involved and caring for him or her, the person will be more apt to feel the care and concern and will more likely respond. The Family Counselors, friends and family members alike feel guilt, extreme displeasure, and self-blame because the death was not averted. However, ultimately responsibility for suicide rests with the victim who was unable or unwilling to cope with the pressures of life. Ways to support. Promise to visit the mortuary, and advise family members to do the same. If possible, accompany the grief-stricken relatives, knowing that the initial shock and denial could be overwhelming. X Resist the phrase, It was an accident, a terrible accident. Some may think this is helpful, but its more of an expression of ones own anxiety. X Do not pass judgment, But, he or she was up all night drinking. They did not understand what they were doing. It is not helpful or necessary to give reasons for the suicide. X The date on which the suicide took plac

Book Race Color and Religion Matter

Download or read book Race Color and Religion Matter written by Carl L. Sweat Jr. D.Min M.Div MS BS and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2008-12-08 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law” (Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV). As we ponder the question, “Do race, color, and religion matter?”, we find that the initial response of many is “No.” If in fact, the reader accepts that everything the Creator has made was good, then one can acknowledge without reservation that race, color, and religion have a beneficial existence. If the reader can recognize that there is a plan and purpose for all things, then without exception one must admit that race, color, and religion have a purpose on this earth and are ideal instruments of God. Race, color and religion are deeply intertwined within the life of mankind as well as with the Creator. They exist as gifts dispersed among humanity for the purpose of diversified beautification. They were destined by the Creator to be used in the fulfillment of His plan for the population of the earth and His plan of salvation. Race, color, and religion serve as indicators of chronological time and are useful in the study of eschatology. They serve as indicators of the three phases of human development: the “Physical Phase, the “Spiritual Phase,” and the “Intellectual Phase.” They are also preordained factors of life for various reasons. Some of these reasons have been revealed to humanity; the others may not be known until the return of Christ. If you are a person who believes that these three factors do not matter, you must read this book. If you are a person who believes the Christian Bible can be studied without consideration for race, color, and religion, your understanding of the Holy Scriptures is both incomprehensive and inconclusive. Through this book, your eyes will be opened to a new awareness of the glorious and magnificent works the Creator has done and is doing. This book provides a better understanding of the proclamations declared throughout biblical history. Also, you will be presented with an anthological survey designed to enhance the study of the Christian Bible with a focused consciousness of the topic. Let this book serve as a sobering experience and a lesson that race, color, and religion truly matter."

Book excerpt: In this account of the history between Indigenous Peoples and the United States government, readers will learn the role of the bible played in the perpetration of genocide, massive land theft, and the religious suppression and criminalization of Native ceremonies and spirituality. Chris Mato Nunpa, a Dakota man, discusses this dishonorable and darker side of American history that is rarely studied, if at all. Out of a number of rationales used to justify the killing of Native Peoples and theft their lands, the author will discuss a biblical rationale, including the "chosen people" idea, the "promised land" notion, and the genocidal commands of the Old Testament God. Mato Nunpa's experience with fundamentalist and evangelical missionaries when he was growing up, his studies in Indigenous Nations history at the University of Minnesota, and his affiliation with the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) were three important factors in his motivation for writing this book.

Book Patterns of Christological Categorisation

Download or read book Patterns of Christological Categorisation written by Marvin C. Sanguinetti and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-03-28 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on Christological-Monotheism, an underexplored area which combines two disciplines of theological appraisal often addressed as separate subjects. Christological-Monotheism is underexplored in the literature, and even more underexplored are interpretations of Christological-Monotheism from the perspectives of Christian voices within the “Oneness Pentecostal” faith tradition. Oneness Pentecostalism offers opposing perspectives to what is considered ‘fixed orthodoxy’ within the Christian faith traditions: i.e., its views differ on doctrines relating to the nature of God and Christ from accepted norms. This project seeks to include various Oneness Pentecostal interpretations to commonly held perspectives, and explore what such might look like when juxtapose with Christian orthodoxy. Moreover, it rereads perspectives about the relationship between God and Christ offered by both traditions in the contexts of earlier contributors to Christian history, all the way to the Second Temple Jewish periods, and includes similar patterns exposed by various groups/scholars along this trajectory.
