Book excerpt: The best editorial cartoons from the Miami Herald’s Jim Morin, “one of the great under-appreciated cartoonists of the last quarter century” (The Comics Reporter). Political cartoonists distill opinions about power and culture into art and commentary with the sharp points of their pens Most recently, during and after Election 2016, the remarkable artist’s pen of Jim Morin has produced a steady stream of Donald Trump cartoons that have both delighted and infuriated followers, depending upon their side of the Donald Trump divide. This book of best cartoons by Jim Morin is both funny and poignant. It is a nostalgic journey through the last forty years of the comedy and reality of our world. Upon awarding the prestigious Herblock Prize to Jim Morin in 2007, Harry Katz, the Herb Block Foundation curator, praised this two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for his “impressive, unrelenting barrage of cartoons and caricatures displaying artistry, courage and conviction.” Morin should also be praised for his wit and timely wry sense of humor, which has been a staple of the Miami Herald since 1978. Jim Morin’s World: 40 Years of Social Commentary From A Two-Time Pulitzer Prize–Winning Cartoonist is a collection of some of the best cartoons by this gifted artist and commentator on our times. “We’re lucky to have one of the very best, waiting with pen in hand to carve up the phonies, blowhards, crooks and hypocrites who make headlines. They might not want to end up in a Jim Morin cartoon, but they will.” —Carl Hiaasen, from the foreword

Book Mission Accomplished

    Book Details:
  • Author : Khalil Bendib
  • Publisher : Olive Branch Press
  • Release : 2007
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 204 pages

Download or read book Mission Accomplished written by Khalil Bendib and published by Olive Branch Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an increasingly Manichean geopolitical world, Bendib happens to be both "Us" and "Them," American and Muslim, a walking oxymoron - a "Clash of Civilizations" made flesh. He is the only American political cartoonist with an in-your-face non-Eurocentric perspective, a voice of the voiceless. Distributed to 1,700 small and mid-size newspapers across North America, Bendib's cartoons are the only widely circulated editorial cartoons free of the usual corporate narrative and they offer a radical, indigenous perspective in a visual medium accessible to all. Bendib's cartoons shine a light on such topics as the corrupting influence of money on democracy, African-American and immigrant issues, environmental degradation, labor and class struggles, U.S. imperialism and Zionism, the scapegoating of Arabs, Muslims and other people of color, as well as the complicity of our Orwellian mass media in maintaining the status quo. Bendib's cartoons are very popular with legions of alternative, educated, left-of-center readers (especially in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, New York and campus towns across the USA, as well as much of Canada, the UK and Australia) hungry for humorous voices of dissent and with many forgotten constituencies in this country, which are slowly becoming a majority: African-Americans, Muslims, Arabs, South Asians, Latinos, immigrants of all stripes, worldwide indigenous communities ravenous for edgy humor reflecting their specific concerns. -- Description from http://www.amazon.com (Nov. 3, 2011).

Book excerpt: McKenna to Harper, Chrétien to Bush, with a dash of Trudeau and Mulroney. Michael de Adder is one of Canada's foremost cartoonists, part of a long history of political cartooning that began in ancient Egypt and Rome. The invention of the printing press and the wide distribution of newspapers gave life to the political or editorial cartoonist. Controversy goes hand-in-hand with being an editorial cartoonist and de Adder has had his share of stirring up the pot. His 2007 cartoon of Jerry Falwell arriving in Hell with the devil exclaiming "Surprise!" is one example. His famous cartoon on the election of Pope Benedict XVI remained unpublished because the Catholic editor of the Halifax Daily Newsdeemed it too controversial. (It later won the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists Golden Spike Award for the best cartoon killed by an editor.) In this lively collection of political cartoons drawn from work made between 1997 and 2015, de Adder skewers politicians and public figures of all persuasions. Michael de Adder began his career as a cartoonist with the Halifax Daily News. He has since worked for Brunswick News, the Halifax Chronicle Herald, the Toronto Star, and the Hill Times. His work is syndicated throughout North America.
