Book Participation in Environmental Organizations

Download or read book Participation in Environmental Organizations written by Benno Torgler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2010-07-02 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades, social scientists have searched for factors that shape pro-environmental behaviour. However, only a few studies have investigated the causes and consequences of participation in environmental organizations. This book fills the gap by analysing in detail the determinants of environmental participation and its consequences in different parts of the world. Benno Torgler, María A. García-Valinas and Alison Macintyre seek the answer to several questions regarding who is working towards positive outcomes for our environment, what sort of social and institutional context will assist voluntary participation, what sort of attitudes are related to positive environmental behavior, and which countries are active on the intergovernmental stage. By focusing on voluntary participation in environmental organizations, we are able to determine the level of willingness to work towards a solution for environmental problems. This allows an insight into the motivations and attitudes of individuals and nations and how these factors can affect environmental cooperation. Participation in Environmental Organizations sheds light on who is liable to participate and will help to see whose priorities and values are forwarded through voluntary activities and to what extent voluntary participation can become representative. Thus, the book provides a unique examination of citizens’ willingness to participate in environmental organizations. The book will be of interest to Economics students and researchers alike who seek a deeper understanding of the theory and practice of environmental participation.

Book Employment Relations in the Voluntary Sector

Download or read book Employment Relations in the Voluntary Sector written by Ian Cunningham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-06 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new book addresses the topical issues surrounding employment relations in UK voluntary organizations that operate within the quasi-market of social care. Combining an analysis of the established literature with in-depth qualitative field work, Ian Cunningham explores the nature of power relations between state and voluntary sector; implications of employment policy and subsequent pressures for change in pay and working conditions; the influence of trade unions in the sector; management’s capacity to resist external pressure and employee responses to this environment. Cunningham’s focus on the employment relationship in this sector is unique, highlighting a complex and variable pattern of interdependence and subordination between government agencies and voluntary sector employers. The author examines the way in which financial pressures from the state coupled with weak unionization diminish working conditions, arguing that employee morale will not be sustained if the voluntary sector fails to maintain its autonomy and minimize its dependency on state funding.

Book NGOs in China and Europe

Download or read book NGOs in China and Europe written by Yuwen Li and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-05-06 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents a comparison of the experiences of NGOs in China and Europe. The chapters on China contain the most comprehensive and up-to-date analysis of various types of NGOs currently active in the country. The contributions on foreign NGOs in China, non-governmental think tanks, public interest legal organizations, labour related NGOs and charity organizations, are the first in English to discuss successful experiences as well as the difficulties they face in the post-Mao era. The European studies draw examples from countries where the experiences of NGOs are at various stages of development. The section on NGOs in Central and Eastern Europe examines the rapid expansion of civil society and their pivotal role in promoting political change and building democracy in a transitional society, as well as the challenges they confront in advancing a strong civil society. Those chapters on NGOs' experiences in Western European countries, especially in the Netherlands and the UK, provide insightful information and examination of the most contentious issues concerning NGOs' accountability, governance and relationship with the government.

Book Ageing Resource Communities

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Throughout the world’s hinterland regions, people are growing old in resource-dependent communities that were neither originally designed nor presently equipped to support an ageing population. This book provides cutting edge theoretical and empirical insights into the new phenomenon resource frontier ageing, to understand the diverse experiences of and responses to rural population ageing in the early 21st century. The book explores the resource hinterland as a new frontier of rural ageing and examines three central themes of rural population change, community development and voluntarism that characterize ageing resource communities. By investigating the links among these three themes, the book provides the conceptual and empirical foundations for the future agenda of rural ageing research. Book excerpt: `This book, written by a group of outstanding UK researchers, pinpoints the essence and scope of relationship marketing and vividly demonstrates its applicability in different industries. Relationship marketing is the marketing of the next millennium. Don’t argue. Just read the book!' - Evert Gummesson, Stockholm University By examining the relationship between theory and practice, Relationship Marketing appears at an important stage in the development of relationship marketing. The opening chapter examines relationship marketing (RM) theory, reviews a number of RM definitions and reports on the economic arguments in favour of RM. It describes the nature and scope of marketing relationships, picking out characteristics such as concern for the welfare of customers, trust and commitment between partners, and the importance of customer service. Finally, it identifies a number of requirements for successful RM. The next 12 chapters describe, analyze and critique RM practice in a number of organizational settings (supply-chain relationships, principal-agent relationships, business-to-business relationships, intra-organizational relationships) and industries (hospitality, air travel, retail banking, corporate banking, credit cards, financial advisory services, advertising agencies, not-for-profit organizations). This book was released on 2015-02-20 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the social aspects of healthy ageing for older individuals. It features more than 15 papers that explore the relevance of the social environment for health on the micro, meso, and macro level. Overall, the book applies a comprehensive contextual approach that includes discussion of how family and friends, neighborhoods, nations, and welfare regimes influence health. The book first explores the issue on the individual level. It looks at the importance of social capital for health among older people, examines types of social networks and health among older Americans, as well as discusses dynamic social capital and mental health in late life. Next, the book looks at the issue through a neighborhood and societal context, which takes into account day-to-day interaction in the immediate environment as well as the social, health, and economic policies in place in different regions in the world, including America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. From there, the book goes on to offer implications and recommendations for research and practice, including the management of related concepts of research on well-being and health. It also offers a psychosocial approach to promoting social capital and mental health among older adults. This book provides health professionals as well as researchers and students in gerontology, sociology, social policy, psychology, and social work with vital insights into the social factors that increase healthy life years and promote well-being.
