Book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment

Download or read book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment written by Robert T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the minimum induced drag of wings having a given lift and a given span is extended to include cases in which the bending moment to be supported by the wing is also given. Expressions for the spanwise load distribution and the minimum drag in terms of the lateral position of the load centroid are given. The results show a 15-percent reduction of the induced drag with a 15-percent increase in span over that for an elliptic loading having the same total lift and bending moment.

Book Minimal Drag for Wings with Prescribed Lift Roll Moment and Yaw Moment

Download or read book Minimal Drag for Wings with Prescribed Lift Roll Moment and Yaw Moment written by Karl L. E. Nickel and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let L, R, Y be arbitrary real constants. A wing with fixed span which produces lift L, roll moment R, yaw moment Y and which has minimal induced drag D is wanted. This problem arises in airplane engineering. It is solved by means of Prandtl's lifting line theory combined with computation. (Author).

Book Flight Stability and Automatic Control

Download or read book Flight Stability and Automatic Control written by Robert C. Nelson and published by WCB/McGraw-Hill. This book was released on 1998 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second edition of Flight Stability and Automatic Control presents an organized introduction to the useful and relevant topics necessary for a flight stability and controls course. Not only is this text presented at the appropriate mathematical level, it also features standard terminology and nomenclature, along with expanded coverage of classical control theory, autopilot designs, and modern control theory. Through the use of extensive examples, problems, and historical notes, author Robert Nelson develops a concise and vital text for aircraft flight stability and control or flight dynamics courses.

Book The Paths Of Soaring Flight

Download or read book The Paths Of Soaring Flight written by Frank George Irving and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-03-26 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is concerned with the sport of soaring, mainly with the mathematical basis of sailplane design and operation. It does not tell the beginner how to fly, but it will give an experienced pilot some background, with historical notes showing how ideas have evolved and could develop in the future. Some of the material is taken from OSTIV (Organisation Scientifique et Technique Internationale de Vol a Viole) publications and from Technical Soaring, neither of which is readily available to the general public, including papers by the author and others. Extensive references are provided in each chapter.

Book Distinct Aerodynamics of Insect Scale Flight

Download or read book Distinct Aerodynamics of Insect Scale Flight written by Csaba Hefler and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-27 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Insect-scale flapping wing flight vehicles can conduct environmental monitoring, disaster assessment, mapping, positioning and security in complex and challenging surroundings. To develop bio-inspired flight vehicles, systematic probing based on the particular category of flight vehicles is needed. This Element addresses the aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, geometry, stability and dynamics of flexible flapping wings in the insect flight regime. The authors highlight distinct features and issues, contrast aerodynamic stability between rigid and flexible wings, present the implications of the wing-aspect ratio, and use canonical models and dragonflies to elucidate scientific insight as well as technical capabilities of bio-inspired design.
