Book The Privilege of Persecution

Download or read book The Privilege of Persecution written by Carl A Moeller and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2011-05-01 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many Americans view the persecuted church as “third-world,” needy, uneducated, and poor -- sorely lacking in much of what we assume the church needs to function well. Essentially, we see them as being in need of us. But the irony, say Carl Moeller and David Hegg, is that we’re in much greater need of them. Through a combination of inspiring real-life stories, first-hand experiences, and exposition of key Scripture passages, Dr. Carl Moeller and Pastor David Hegg examine the "e;normal Christian life"e; of Christ-followers currently suffering persecution around the world. In topical chapter after chapter, the authors conclude that the suffering church's vibrant, sacrificial, and communal faith is much closer to God's intent for His church and His children. The authors explore the areas of community, leadership, worship, prayer, and generosity, among others, revealing specific attitudes and actions of the suffering church that can renew the spiritual lives of Christians in the West. Each chapter ends with challenging questions and suggestions for personal and corporate application.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Privilege the Text! spans the conceptual gap between biblical text and life application by providing a rigorous theological hermeneutic for preaching. Kuruvilla describes the theological entity that is the intermediary between ancient text and modern audience, and defines its crucial function in determining valid application. Based on this hermeneutic, he submits a new mode of reading Scripture for preaching: a Christiconic interpretation of the biblical text, a hermeneutically robust way to understand the depiction of the Second Person of the Trinity in Scripture. In addition, Kuruvilla’s work provides a substantive theology of spiritual formation through preaching: what it means to obey God, the Christian’s responsibility to undertake “faith-full” obedience to divine demand, and the incentives for such obedience—all integral to understanding the sermonic movement from text to application. Privilege the Text! promises to be useful not only for preachers, and students and teachers of homiletics, but for all who are interested in the exposition of Scripture that culminates in application for the glory of God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learn to leverage privilege. Privilege is a social consequence of our unwillingness to reckon with and turn from sin. But properly stewarded, it can help us see and participate in God's inbreaking kingdom. Scripture repeatedly affirms that privilege is real and declares that, rather than exploiting it for selfish gain or feeling immobilized by it, Christians have a responsibility to leverage it. Subversive Witness asks us to grapple with privilege, indifference, and systemic sin in new ways by using biblical examples to reveal the complex nature of privilege and Christians' responsibility in stewarding it well. Dominique DuBois Gilliard highlights several people in the Bible who understood this kingdom call. Through their stories, you will discover how to leverage privilege to: Resist Sin Stand in Solidarity with the Oppressed Birth Liberation Create Systemic Change Proclaim the Good News Generate Social Transformation By embodying Scripture's subversive call to leverage--and at times forsake--privilege, readers will learn to love their neighbors sacrificially, enact systemic change, and grow more Christlike as citizens of God's kingdom.

Book The Believer s Privileges in the Covenant of Grace

Download or read book The Believer s Privileges in the Covenant of Grace written by Thomas Watson and published by Puritan Publications. This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, Watson explains what the biblical privileges of the Covenant of Grace are for a believer. He demonstrates that such privileges are in fact benefits lavished on the Christian by the work and ministry of Jesus Christ, through his life, death, resurrection and present intercession. It is impossible to divorce the privileges of a believer as a redeemed individual with the connection he has with Christ in the Covenant of Grace. Christ’s covenant, ministered to the believer through faith, is the mode in which the believer will obtain all the benefits offered. There are, according to Watson, twelve royal benefits of being in the covenant with Christ’s blood covering the believer. Such royal privileges surround death, the ministry of angels, the presence of Christ in glory, a blessed inheritance, clear knowledge, perfect love, the resurrection and glorification of our bodies, a holy disposition in heaven, a vindication of our reputations at the judgment, a complete sentence of absolution from sin, and a public and honorable mention of all the good which believers have done in this life. After explaining his main text, “All things are yours,” (1 Corinthians 3:21), and expounding the twelve privileges, he spends the last third of the work showing important inferences which evolve out of this doctrine. Finally, he completes the work with its longest chapter (chapter 22) showing all the duties that a believer should exercise knowing, now, that he has received such privileges from Christ in the Covenant of Grace. Watson’s style and illustrative manner is second to none in Puritan literature. His illustrations are often short, pithy and to the point. They paint wonderful pictures to drive home the truth of the Scripture-filled work on this most important topic. It is truly a work that ought not to be skimmed, or read in a rush, but rather, soaked in and meditated upon to milk out of it all its benefits, that Christ may be clearly seen. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.

Book A History of the English Bible as Literature

Download or read book A History of the English Bible as Literature written by David Norton and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-05-29 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised and condensed from David Norton's acclaimed A History of the Bible as Literature, this book, first published in 2000, tells the story of English literary attitudes to the Bible. At first jeered at and mocked as English writing, then denigrated as having 'all the disadvantages of an old prose translation', the King James Bible somehow became 'unsurpassed in the entire range of literature'. How so startling a change happened and how it affected the making of modern translations such as the Revised Version and the New English Bible is at the heart of this exploration of a vast range of religious, literary and cultural ideas. Translators, writers such as Donne, Milton, Bunyan and the Romantics, reactionary Bishops and radical students all help to show the changes in religious ideas and in standards of language and literature that created our sense of the most important book in English.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Short. Timely. Poignant. Pointed. Burying White Privilege is all of these and more. This is the book that everybody who cares about contemporary American Christianity will want to read. Many people wonder how white Christians could not only support Donald Trump for president but also rush to defend an accused child molester running for the US Senate. In a 2017 essay that went viral, Miguel A. De La Torre boldly proclaimed the death of Christianity at the hands of white evangelical nationalists. He continues sounding the death knell in this book. De La Torre argues that centuries of oppression and greed have effectively ruined evangelical Christianity in the United States. Believers and clerical leaders have killed it, choosing profits over prophets. The silence concerning—if not the doctrinal justification of—racism, classism, sexism, and homophobia has made white Christianity satanic. Prophetically calling Christian nationalists to repentance, De La Torre rescues the biblical Christ from the distorted Christ of white Christian imagination.

Book excerpt: The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God’s Word. These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) Reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) “Gospel Glimpses” highlight the gospel of grace throughout each book; (3) “Whole-Bible Connections” show how any given passage connects to the Bible’s overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) “Theological Soundings” identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture. With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God’s grace on each and every page of the Bible. The book of Galatians is one of the apostle Paul’s most impassioned and eloquent letters. It warns Christians of the dangers of both legalism and lawlessness, while calling them to live lives that are shaped by the gospel. In this study, pastor Geoff Ziegler walks readers through the promises, warnings, and gospel declarations found in Galatians. Both accessible and theologically robust, this study will help Christians find freedom in their identity as God’s adopted children.

Book UNDERSTANDING YOUR DIVINE RIGHTS and PRIVILEGES AS a BELIEVER

This book was released on 2017-07-10 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to fully comprehend the legal rights and privileges bequeathed upon us as believers in Christ, it is important that we first understand the spiritual legal realm, and its spiritual laws, principles and protocols which grants believers the prerogative to function in God's legal spiritual system that determines their rights and privileges This publication explores spiritual laws and principles which form the basis of which cases, petitions, prayers, renditions and supplications are handled in the spirit realm. It provides a clear road map that reveals the identity of a believer and causes him to understand clearly how to function in God's spiritual legal system which determines their rights and privileges. It explores the identity of a believer, what his rights are and what is available for him to partake of. While every nation has a constitution that stipulates or spells out the bill of rights for its citizens, the Bible is our constitution encapsulated with divine rights and privileges for every believer in Christ. In order to partake of these blessings of God, every believer should be awakened to their identity in Christ and the reality of who they are in God. Knowing your identity and who you are will give you boldness to partake of what is rightfully and legitimately yours. Knowing your purpose breeds confidence on what God says you are, what He says you have and what He says you can do. Understanding who you are in God in terms of your legal rights and privileges will determine how much of the blessings you can receive from Him. Presiding over a global network of apostolic and prophetic visions, in the capacity of the President of Christ Resurrection Movement (CRM), the Director of Global School of Resurrection (GSR), Senior Pastor of Resurrection Embassy (RE), the founder of Resurrection TV (The Dead-Raising Channel) and the pioneer of the renowned Global School of Signs and Wonders (GSSW), Apostle Frequency Revelator unpacks a plethora of rare but provocative revelations on the legal rights and privileges available for every believer in Christ.

Book First Ask Why

Download or read book First Ask Why written by Shelly Wildman and published by Kregel Publications. This book was released on 2018-03-28 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's no secret that parenting is tricky business. With advice flooding in from all sides, strong-willed children pushing against boundaries, and our own human flaws, it's easy to get bogged down in every how-to that we're not doing well. But maybe that isn't the right approach. Maybe the first step is not to ask "how" but to ask "why." Like most parents, when Shelly Wildman had children, she consulted books, sermons, and lectures on how to raise the best children possible. Yet every resource focused on how to get external results: children who behave the way others expected them to. For Shelly and her husband, the turning point happened when they started asking why instead--shifting their focus to internal change. That's when their purpose as parents became clear: parents are called to do their best to show kids how to know and love Jesus, to love others, and to make a difference in the world. There are no rules here, no inflexible series of steps that lead to perfect parenting. Instead, Shelly encourages parents to think about their unique family and why each child's needs for spiritual growth might look different. She walks you through intentional questioning, focusing on building a firm foundation for lasting discipleship. And in the end, you'll discover that God wants the same outcome you do: a child who knows Christ intimately, loves him deeply, and has a heart to serve him fully.
