Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

This book was released on 2005-09-12 with total page 3742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 16th ICSMGE responds to the needs of the engineering and construction community, promoting dialog and exchange between academia and practice in various aspects of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. This is reflected in the central theme of the conference 'Geotechnology in Harmony with the Global Environment'. The proceedings of the conference are of great interest for geo-engineers and researchers in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Volume 1 contains 5 plenary session lectures, the Terzaghi Oration, Heritage Lecture, and 3 papers presented in the major project session. Volumes 2, 3, and 4 contain papers with the following topics: Soil mechanics in general; Infrastructure and mobility; Environmental issues of geotechnical engineering; Enhancing natural disaster reduction systems; Professional practice and education. Volume 5 contains the report of practitioner/academic forum, 20 general reports, a summary of the sessions and workshops held during the conference.

Book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering written by Jay Ameratunga and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-12-11 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a one-stop reference to the empirical correlations used extensively in geotechnical engineering. Empirical correlations play a key role in geotechnical engineering designs and analysis. Laboratory and in situ testing of soils can add significant cost to a civil engineering project. By using appropriate empirical correlations, it is possible to derive many design parameters, thus limiting our reliance on these soil tests. The authors have decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, as professional engineers or researchers. The objective of this book is to present a critical evaluation of a wide range of empirical correlations reported in the literature, along with typical values of soil parameters, in the light of their experience and knowledge. This book will be a one-stop-shop for the practising professionals, geotechnical researchers and academics looking for specific correlations for estimating certain geotechnical parameters. The empirical correlations in the forms of equations and charts and typical values are collated from extensive literature review, and from the authors' database.

Book From Soil Behavior Fundamentals to Innovations in Geotechnical Engineering

Download or read book From Soil Behavior Fundamentals to Innovations in Geotechnical Engineering written by Roy Edwin Olson and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Soil Behavior Fundamentals to Innovations in Geotechnical Engineering GSP 233 honors the technical contribution of Roy Olson Ph.D. P.E. NAE Distinguished Member ASCE. This Geotechnical Special Publication contains a total of 51 papers 21 authored or co-authored by Prof. Olson along with 30 peer-reviewed contemporary invited or submitted papers. Olson's early work dealt with clay behavior consolidation analyses and compaction of unsaturated soils. His later work focused on applications of soil behavior in foundation and forensic engineering including axial capacity of piles in sand and clay pull out capacity of suction caisson foundations and failures of excavations and bulkhead structures. Contemporary innovations discussed in papers contributed to this volume include developments in consolidation analyses modeling of shear strength measurements of permeability and interpretation of in-situ tests.Lessons learned from failures along with recent developments in foundation engineering such as characterization of energy piles calculation of settlement from dynamic soil properties developments in finite element modeling of foundations mechanism of failure of jacked piles mitigation of piling noise and field load tests on a variety of foundations are also included. From Soil Behavior Fundamentals to Innovations in Geotechnical Engineering contains practical and technical information on soil behavior fundamentals and current applications in geotechnical engineering that will be of interest to educators researchers and practicing geotechnical engineers.
