Download or read book The Beef Cattle Situation Vol 8 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-08 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beef Cattle Situation, Vol. 8: August 21, 1937 Cattle feeding operations in 1936-37 were generally profitable. Prices of stockor and feeder cattle purchased this fall will be much higher than those of a year earlier, but with larger supplies and lower prices of feed in prospect, the combined costs of feeder cattle and feed in the 1937-3 feeding season probably W111 be somewhat less than in 1936-37. Although prices received.for finished cattle during the first half of 1938 may be lower than in the same period this year, 'the prospects for profits from' cattle feeding in the coming season appear to be moderately favorable. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beef Cattle Situation, Vol. 11: November 19, 1937 Total slaughter of cattle and calves in 1938 is likely to be smaller than that in 1937, with most of the decrease occurring in the first half of the year. A tendency to hold back breeding stock and to rebuild herds is likely to develop in most areas where numbers have been reduced in recent years because of drought, and this will result in fewer cows, heifers, and calves going to slaughter. Slaughter of steers probably will not be greatly different from that of 1937 and may be slightly larger. In view of the larger feed supplies in prospect as compared with a year earlier, the number of well-finished cattle for market in 1938 will be considerably larger than in 1937. The greatest increase in marketings of such cattle over this year probably will occur during the period from May to October. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beef Cattle Situation, Vol. 20: August 20, 1938 Background. After reaching the highest level in more than a decade in the fall of 1937, prices of the better grades of slaughter cattle declined sharply in November and.dccember and in early 1938. This decline apparently was brought about by' increasing weakness in consumer demand and some increase in marketings of grain-fed cattle. Since late February prices of such cattle have strengthened somewhat, a fairly sharp rise occurring in July. Prices of the lower grades of slaughter cattle declined only moderately in late 1937 and early 1938, and from February through April were steady to slightly higher. In May andeaarly June prices of th lower grades made a moderate seasonal advance, but weakened slightly in late June. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beef Cattle Situation: Spring Outlook Issue; March 23, 1937 Background. Cattle prices, which declined to the lowest level on record in 1933, advanced slightly in 1934 and sharply in 1935 to the highest level since 1930. The sharp price advance in 1935 was a result principally of increased consumer purchasing power and the marked reduction in hog slaughter which followed the 1934 drought. Prices of most grades of slaughter cattle declined in the first half of 1936 and were lower, generally, for the year than in 1935. This book was released on 2018-09-09 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Beef Cattle Situation: April 18, 1939 Because of the present tendency to increase cattle herds, slaughter of cows and heifers is expected to continue below that of a year earlier during most of 1959. This will be a factor tending to support cattle prices. And the demand for meats probably will remain stronger than a year earlier through the summer at least. Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 30 written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 30: August 1949 When more cattle are grain fed, for market rather than slaughtered off range or pasture, their average weight is increased and the beef pro duced is of a higher grade. The increased grain feeding in 1949 shows up particularly in the larger number and heavier weights of steers slaughtered. In the first 6 months, 20 percent more steers were slaughtered under Federal inspection than a year earlier. Since their weight was up 33 pounds to an average of pounds, total production'of steer beef was 24 percent larger The increased number of steers and their heavier weights-brought the average weight of all cattle slaughtered under Federal inspection in the first 6 months this year up to 989 pounds, compared with 953 pounds in the same 6 months of last year. Download or read book The Livestock and Meat Situation Vol 31 written by U. S. Bureau Of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-18 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 31: September, 1949 September less meat is likely to be sold from storage than in the compa rable month of 1948. Supplies of beef the rest of this year will be influenced on the one hand by the prospective larger number of grain-fed cattle, and on the other hand by the fewer grass cattle, that will be slaughtered this year compared'with last. More cattle have been fed this year than in 1948; on August 1, the increase in the number on feed in the Corn Belt was 24 per cent. Consequently, slaughter of grain-fed cattle this fall will exceed that of last year. How many grass cattle will go to slaughter will be governed mainly by the number of cattle put into feed lots, since sale of twe-way cattle as feeders removes them.from.the immediate supply for slaughter. The most likely prospect is that eattle slaughter will have less of a seasonal peak this fall than usual and that the total number slaughtered in the last months of the year will be slightly smaller'than in the same neriod of 1948. Since weights per head.will be beatier, beef production may be as large or slightly larger than in late 1948. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock Situation, Vol. 29: November 1941 Despite the large increase in cattle slaughter during the past 6 months over that of a year earlier, cattle numbers are expected to show a considerable increase during 1941. The total number of cattle and calves on farms at the beginning of 1942 probably will be only a little smaller than the record high number reached in 1934. Cattle numbers have been in creasing since 1938. If this upward trend should continue for a year or so longer, marketings at the end of that time would.be exceptionally large, and this would almost certainly result in very low cattle prices. Hence, the long-time position of the cattle industry will be greatly improved if numbers do not increase much more in 1942 and later years. The national goal for cattle and calves in 1942 is one of increased marketings rather than increased production. As indicated in the above paragraph, the long-time outlook for the cattle industry will be improved if marketings and slaughter are increased next year. A slaughter of this size will about offset the likely increase in numbers next year resulting from the calf crop and probable imports. This book was released on 2018-03-18 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Livestock and Meat Situation, Vol. 77: May 1955 Cattle production trends are virtually at a standstill, though the 10 percent more cows slaughtered in january-march this year than last suggests the possibility that a moderate downtrend in the cattle inventory may be commencing. But cattle feeding is at all-time record' volume, having increased in response to favorable price margins realized in 195h. Under influence of large marketings, prices of fed cattle will average lower the rest of the spring than in February to April. A sea sonal strengthening is likely later in the summer. Prices of cattle off grass will likely decline seasonally during the summer. The usual summer decline in prices of lambs is in prospect, but it probably will be less severe than last summer.
