The Zung scales have also been widely used, especially in psychopharmacology; however, they have also been used to measure both negative and positive well-being in WHO studies in psychosomatic medicine. Book Individual Quality of Life

Download or read book Individual Quality of Life written by C R B Joyce and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rubric "Quality of Life" first came to the explicit attention of the medical profession a little over thirty years ago. Despite the undoubted fact that each one of us has his or her own Quality of Life, be it good or bad, there is still no general agreement about its definition, or the manner in which it should be evaluated. Although much has been written about quality of life, this work has been largely concerned with population-based studies, especially in health policy and health economics. The importance of "individual" quality of life has been neglected, in part because of a failure to define quality of life itself with sufficient care, in part perhaps because of a belief that it is impossible to develop a meaningful method of measuring individual variables. The editors of this book believe that the primary focus of quality of life is and must continue to be the individual, who alone can define it and assess its changing personal significance. The challenge of presenting this belief

Book EUROHIS

    Book Details:
  • Author : A. Nosikov
  • Publisher : IOS Press
  • Release : 2003
  • ISBN : 9781586033224
  • Pages : 242 pages

Download or read book EUROHIS written by A. Nosikov and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The EUROHIS project has focused on the comparability of health surveys and has uncovered some problems that arise when aiming to compare data from different countries. Similar problems of cross-cultural comparability also arise when comparing data from other sources, such as health registers, and are just as complex and difficult to tackle. One of the main advantages of health surveys, however, is the relatively low cost and time involved in adapting them according to the needs of health policy-makers. This work shows that the output from the EUROHIS project provides common instruments for the measurement of eight health indicators. The development of these instruments has required careful consideration of relevant common concepts and how these should be defined and operationalized. The instruments are freely available for use by all countries, with the aim of enhancing national health information systems and facilitating cross-national comparisons of health data.

Book Assessment Scales in Depression and Anxiety CORPORATE

Download or read book Assessment Scales in Depression and Anxiety CORPORATE written by Raymond W. Lam and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2006-08-08 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are a number of books recently published on assessment scales for depression and anxiety. However, these books are generally more detailed than clinicians require, are specific to one or other condition, or involve specialty populations such as children or geriatrics. To meet the needs of clinicians treating patients with depressive and anxiety disorders, this volume aims to bring together empirically validated assessment scales. In a concise and user-friendly format, Assessment Scales in Depression and Anxiety illustrates the assessment scales used in clinical trials and research studies; shows how to select an assessment scale and to decide which scale to use for a particular clinical situation; and provides sample assessment scales for clinicians to use in their practice.

Book Handbook of Clinical Rating Scales and Assessment in Psychiatry and Mental Health

Download or read book Handbook of Clinical Rating Scales and Assessment in Psychiatry and Mental Health written by Lee Baer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychiatric clinicians should use rating scales and questionnaires often, for they not only facilitate targeted diagnoses and treatment; they also facilitate links to empirical literature and systematize the entire process of management. Clinically oriented and highly practical, the Handbook of Clinical Rating Scales and Assessment in Psychiatry and Mental Health is an ideal tool for the busy psychiatrist, clinical psychologist, family physician, or social worker. In this ground-breaking text, leading researchers provide reviews of the most commonly used outcome and screening measures for the major psychiatric diagnoses and treatment scenarios. The full range of psychiatric disorders are covered in brief but thorough chapters, each of which provides a concise review of measurement issues related to the relevant condition, along with recommendations on which dimensions to measure – and when. The Handbook also includes ready-to-photocopy versions of the most popular, valid, and reliable scales and checklists, along with scoring keys and links to websites containing on-line versions. Moreover, the Handbook describes well known, structured, diagnostic interviews and the specialized training requirements for each. It also includes details of popular psychological tests (such as neuropsychological, personality, and projective tests), along with practical guidelines on when to request psychological testing, how to discuss the case with the assessment consultant and how to integrate information from the final testing report into treatment. Focused and immensely useful, the Handbook of Clinical Rating Scales and Assessment in Psychiatry and Mental Health is an invaluable resource for all clinicians who care for patients with psychiatric disorders.

Book Integrated Mental Health Services

Download or read book Integrated Mental Health Services written by William R. Breakey and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1996 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the provision of psychiatric services to populations, a task which requires an integrated system of service components. Generally the target population comprises the residents of a specific geographic area, but it may be a special population, such as homeless people or people with AIDS. Community psychiatry does not deal only with the interaction between a patient and a doctor, but with the system of services and interactions that is needed to treat a variety of patients and to provide long-term care, support, and rehabilitation for patients with chronic disorders. Modern community psychiatry is pragmatic rather than doctrinaire; it measures its success in cost-effectiveness rather than by its faithfulness to any particular theoretical model. It stresses interdisciplinary teamwork and the involvement of consumers. These lessons, learned by community psychiatrists working in the public sector over several decades, are now being increasingly applied in the private sector as better organized, managed systems of care are evolving. This book describes the history of public mental health services and the underpinnings of modern community psychiatry in epidemiology, mental health services research, and administration. It then describes the methods and strategies used to provide the range of services that constitute a comprehensive mental health program. The authors discuss the public health principles that underlie community approaches and present the methods used within the several components of a comprehensive service system to address the needs of specific populations, stressing interdisciplinary teamwork and coordination within an integrated service network.

  • ISBN : 1118511824
  • Pages : 168 pages

Download or read book Clinical Psychometrics written by Per Bech and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2012-09-24 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clinical Psychometrics is an introduction to the long-term attempt to measure the psychiatric dimension of dementia, schizophrenia, mania, depression, anxiety, neuroticism, extraversion/introversion and health-related quality of life. The two psychometric procedures, classical factor analysis and modern item-response models, are presented for readers without any requirement for particular mathematical or statistical knowledge. The book is unique in this attempt and provides helpful background information for the dimensional approach that is being used in the forthcoming updates to the diagnostic classification systems, ICD-11 and DSM-5. The book is written for everyone who is interested in the origins and development of modern psychiatry, and who wants to be familiar with its practical possibilities; how it is possible to compare different individuals with each other, how one may determine the boundary between what is normal and what is disease, or how one may assess the clinical effect of the various forms of treatment, available to present day psychiatry.

Book Sourcebook of Adult Assessment Strategies

Download or read book Sourcebook of Adult Assessment Strategies written by Nicola S. Schutte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessment is a topic that is central to psychology. In the case of clinical psychology, assessment of individual functioning is of keen interest to individuals involved in clinical practice as well as research. Understand ing the multiple domains of functioning, evaluating characteristics of individuals in relation to others (normative assessment) as well as in relation to themselves (ipsative assessment), and charting progress or change over time all require well-developed assessment tools and methods. In light of the importance of the topic, books, journals, and monographs continue to emerge in large numbers to present, address, and evaluate diverse measures. Keeping informed about measures, identifying the mea sures in use, and obtaining the necessary information for their interpreta tion make the task of Sisyphus look like a vacation. In this book, the editors provide information that eases the task remarkably. The overriding goal of this book is to provide concise, useful, and essential information about measures of adult functioning. To that end, this is a sourcebook, a format that is particularly noteworthy. The mea sures are presented and organized according to diagnostic categories, as derived from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). The categories are broad (e. g. , substance-related disorders, anx iety disorders, mood disorders, schizophrenia and related disorders) in recognition that those who develop measures and those who use them in clinical research or practice usually do not have narrowly defined diagnos tic entities in mind.
