And through those united with Him He seeks to unleash the power of His salvation into the world. Unfortunately many churches, while seeking to reveal Jesus to the world, have succeeded in only creating a religious environment that causes pain and frustration for those who are a part of the church. I have heard too many people say, "I don't go to church because I've already been there!" Unfortunately conflict is too common in many churches. This book is written to help the church understand what lies behind that conflict. In that regard it could be called a Theology of Conflict as it seeks to understand its root causes.A sober reading of the gospels reveal that the people who were most antagonistic towards Jesus were those who helped create the religious landscape of the day. The Pharisees, Sadducees, and the scribes who were the ruling authority of the time, weren't necessarily bad people but they were misguided. They embraced religion because they believed that made them righteous in God's eyes. But when the Author of life was in their midst they were not able to discern who He was. Instead of embracing Him, they killed Him. Their anger was a result of Jesus pulling back the veil and revealing that their religion did not make them righteous before God. If anything, according Jesus, their religion made them evil. That's a shocking statement. But consider carefully His words when he rebuked them and said, "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves" (Matt 23:15). Who wants to be on the receiving end of that rebuke! Yet those men made the mistake of believing they were righteous by virtue of their religious practices - and they acted accordingly. In their pride they were convinced they were on the path of salvation and eternal life. But Jesus revealed that their religion actually led them down the path of destruction and damnation. This book is a modest attempt at correcting that mistake. After pastoring churches for several years I have seen good intentioned people succumb to the same temptation as did the Pharisees. The Bible makes a startling observation. It reveals that there are people who have been taken captive by Satan to do his will (2 Tim 2:26). This book seeks to understand how that can happen. It studies what the Bible teaches about Satan and seeks to understand how people with good intentions and who believe in God can be taken captive by him and used by him in the context of the church. Without knowing it Satan can influence people to embrace his spiritual attributes while leading them to believe they are sincerely serving God. The Pharisees sincerely believed they were serving God. But when He showed up, it turned out they were His enemy. That's a scary place to be. As such this book is written for the church. It is offered as a small contribution that seeks to help the church stand against the schemes of the enemy so that it can be a fragrance of life to those who will inherit eternal life. Lucifer became Satan (adversary) or the devil. God recreated the heavens and the earth (universe) and formed man to rule over all the earth. The universe formed by God was again perfect. Since Satan's rebellion, his main goal has been to incite all beings to join him in rebelling against God. To achieve such objective, he uses various strategies, tactics, and methods to cause man to join him in rebelling against God. The strategies, tactics, and methods that Satan uses to deceive human beings are largely similar. It is, therefore, important for us to understand them so that we can effectively resist him. That has been the focus of this book. Beginning with the causes of Lucifer's sin, we have examined his strategies and tactics as he has applied them on some selected persons in the course of history. These include his encounters with Adam and Eve, Job, Jesus Christ, and Paul the apostle. The aim of this approach has been to identify Satan's strategies, tactics, and methods which he employs as his tools of warfare against human beings. Such knowledge will help us resist him.

Some believe that they should engage in spiritual warfare, actively engaging these demonic forces, while others follow the 'live and let live' -- the leave them alone and hope that they will leave us alone -- philosophy. Still others believe that the existence of demons is but a myth, but if this were true, why would the Apostle Paul, leave this counsel to the church: "Finally, grow powerful in union with the Lord, in union with his mighty strength! Use all the armor and weaponry that God provides, so that you will be able to stand against the deceptive tactics of the Adversary. For we are not struggling against human beings, but against the rulers, authorities and cosmic powers governing this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realm. So take up every piece of war equipment God provides; so that when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist; and when the battle is won, you will still be standing" (Eph 6:10-14 CJB). The battle is real -- a battle between spiritual entities taking place in the heavens (the spirit realm) -- which we, having become Christians, becoming one through spirit-to-Spirit union with Christ -- have become engaged in. Thus, the question for each Christian, is not whether or not to participate in spiritual warfare; but whether one will be a victim or a victor. There is an old cliche' which says, "Knowledge is Power." Understanding spiritual warfare, the necessary preparation; the battlefield; the enemy's identity and strategic battle plan, will spell the difference between whether one is victorious or victimized. Satan's Kingdom of Darkness is well organized and prepared for battle -- a battle which began in heaven and is now being carried out upon the earth and in the heavens. The Apostle John, speaking prophetically in his later years, described this, saying: "There was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down - that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him" (Rev 12:7-9). The Old Testament Prophet understood this and knew that individually we are no match for this organized enemy -- this army of evil. Thus, inspired by God, he counseled us to: "Proclaim this among the nations: Prepare for war! Rouse the warriors! Let all the fighting men draw near and attack. Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears. Let the weakling say, 'I am strong!' Come quickly, all you nations from every side, and assemble" (Joel 3:9-11). In Volume One of this series -- "Prepare for War" we provided guidance for personal preparation for all those called to this battle -- and that is every Christian. In this volume, "The Synagogue of Satan & Its Ruling Powers" we introduce you to the demonic strongmen that govern specific categories of spiritual oppression, and the subordinate demons that they direct. Remember knowledge is power. Going through life without knowledge results in powerlessness, which makes one a victim: in this case a victim of demons!
