Book The Balancing of Engines Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Balancing of Engines Classic Reprint written by W. E. Daley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Balancing of Engines During the last ten years the subject of Engine Balancing has gradually forced itself upon the attention of Marine Engineers, chiefly because the unbalanced periodic forces of the engine and the natural periods of vibration of the hull have mutually approached the sensitive region of synchronism. Electrical Engineers have had vibration troubles at Central Stations and on Electric Railways, and many cases of undue wear and tear and hot bearings in Mills and Factories undoubtedly arise from unbalanced machinery, though the actual vibration produced may not be great. In general, the running of an unbalanced engine or machine provokes its supports to elastic oscillations, and adds a grinding pressure on the bearings, and the obvious way to prevent these undesirable effects from happening is to remove the cause of them, that is to say, balance the moving parts from which the unbalanced forces arise. Download or read book Balancing of Engines Steam Gas and Petrol written by Archibald Sharp and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-12 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Balancing of Engines, Steam, Gas, and Petrol: An Elementary Text-Book, Using Principally Graphical Methods; For the Use of Students, Draughtsmen, Designers, and Buyers of Engines; With Numerous Tables and Diagrams The development of the motor-car engine, and the successful installation of steam turbines for land and marine use, have been the means of directing more attention to the subject of engine balancing. The smooth running of an engine depends mainly on two factors: a more or less uniform torque on the crank-shaft, and good balance of the inertia forces of the engine. The latter forms the subject-matter of the present work; the former cannot be left without any mention, a chapter is therefore devoted to it. With the exception of a few analytical investigations, the method of treatment is graphical. In fact, the engineering student will recognize many geometrical methods with which he is familiar as applied to Statics of Structures. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Graphic Methods of Engine Design: Including a Graphical Treatment of the Balancing Engines It has been, in places, somewhat difficult to steer a mean course between pedantic accuracy of expression and a dangerous laxity, such as is too common among engineers. In particular, as regards the words mass and weight, though the author is convinced that it is better in the long run to assign to each its strict meaning, yet, in deference to the objection which so many engineers have to the word mass, it has not been used more than is absolutely necessary to the sense. N o departure has been made from strict accuracy which could cause confusion. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Dynamics of Reciprocating Engines Classic Reprint

Download or read book Dynamics of Reciprocating Engines Classic Reprint written by Mortimer Elwyn Cooley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-22 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Dynamics of Reciprocating Engines The problem of the forces which exist in reciprocating engines has many points of interest not usually considered by engineers. It is customary to consider that the pressure on the piston is transmitted unchanged, or only slightly modified by the angularity of the connecting-rod, to the crank-pin, and the moving parts are designed with reference to this pressure. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Design of Marine Engines and Auxiliaries In the section on Engine Balancing, although no portion of the material is original, much time and effort has been expended in correlating the work of various investigators. The question of pressures upon main bearings will be found more extensively treated in a paper by the author in Vol. 18, Part I, of The Journal of the American Society of Naval Engineers. The author wishes to acknowledge the kindness of the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in permitting him to use certain drawings for Plates 1, 2, and 3.
