Download or read book The Backside of Normal written by Roger Olson and published by Seaworthy Publications Incorporated. This book was released on 2021 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "For most of his life, Roger Olson tried to fit into the "so-called" American Dream. He got a master's degree in Education and taught high school for 15 years. He got married and tried to have children, then an unexpected divorce shattered his world and made him take stock of the life he was living. He needed to own a home that was close enough to his work, so he was saddled with a mortgage. He needed vehicles to get to and from work, and of course, these things lead to needing other things, like fuel, maintenance costs, insurance, electricity, and much more. Instead, Roger Olson went a different way. He managed to buy a small seaworthy sailing vessel, eventually quit his job and spent several decades sailing all over the Pacific, visiting many South Pacific island archipelagos, Australia, New Zealand, the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand. He is the author of the book, "Plot Your Course to Adventure: How To Be a Successful Cruiser" He is also the producer of the short film about his voyage entitled "Melanesian Adventure," now available on youtube.com"--

Book Transient Effects in Friction

    Book Details:
  • Author : Andreas Goedecke
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2014-07-08
  • ISBN : 370911506X
  • Pages : 211 pages

Download or read book Transient Effects in Friction written by Andreas Goedecke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transient friction effects determine the behavior of a wide class of mechatronic systems. Classic examples are squealing brakes, stiction in robotic arms, or stick-slip in linear drives. To properly design and understand mechatronic systems of this type, good quantitative models of transient friction effects are of primary interest. The theory developed in this book approaches this problem bottom-up, by deriving the behavior of macroscopic friction surfaces from the microscopic surface physics. The model is based on two assumptions: First, rough surfaces are inherently fractal, exhibiting roughness on a wide range of scales. Second, transient friction effects are caused by creep enlargement of the real area of contact between two bodies. This work demonstrates the results of extensive Finite Element analyses of the creep behavior of surface asperities, and proposes a generalized multi-scale area iteration for calculating the time-dependent real contact between two bodies. The toolset is then demonstrated both for the reproduction of a variety of experimental results on transient friction as well as for system simulations of two example systems.

Book Not So Normal

Download or read book Not So Normal written by Tom Symington and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2024-05-07 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Growing up in post-World War II Alberta in a stable, loving home, Tom Symington didn’t feel that he was “different.” Evading early pressures of romance and sexual exploration, repressing instances of name-calling (“femmy”), and hostility from schoolmates, Tom was almost able to believe in a world that valued the rights and freedoms of all citizens. From Calgary to Sierra Leone to France, this candid, heartbreaking memoir braids the evolution of gay rights in Canada with the life journey of one individual. Following high school, as Tom entered university and became a teacher, he was forced to reconcile his sexual orientation with the prevailing social and legal environment in Alberta, Canada, and the world beyond. As decades passed, “femmy” merged with “gay,” “queer,” and “LGBTQ+ community” in a rallying movement and an enduring struggle towards pride and self-acceptance against the current of societal expectations and discriminatory legislation. Not So Normal is as much a coming-of-age odyssey and a celebration of selfhood as it is a grave reminder that there is still much work to be done in the realm of human rights, and an urgent call to action to recentre love in our increasingly diverse and divisive world.

A year later, they’re both studying at Trinity College in Dublin. Marianne has found her feet in a new social world while Connell hangs at the sidelines, shy and uncertain. Throughout their years at university, Marianne and Connell circle one another, straying toward other people and possibilities but always magnetically, irresistibly drawn back together. And as she veers into self-destruction and he begins to search for meaning elsewhere, each must confront how far they are willing to go to save the other. Book Design of DNA Genetic Codes and Life Function

Download or read book Design of DNA Genetic Codes and Life Function written by Charles Schaper and published by Molecular Sciences Publishing House. This book was released on 2020-07-04 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is comprised of original research and presents for the first time discoveries on the origins of the genetic code of life: the mapping between DNA nucleotides and amino acids. For the first time, a digital communications framework is developed from molecular structures. The chapters include: Discovering the Primer of DNA - The basic discovery process indicating a common structure with the DNA nucleotide pairs, the relationship of steroid hormones to DNA structure, and its correlation to pharmacological efficacy. Encoding DNA - The encoding of a unified complex that will enable both structure and immediate function of DNA; originally synthesized through intermolecular coupling of pairs of pairs of hydrogen bonded steroid structured molecules. Transmitting DNA - The transmission of the encoded complex through the formation of a DNA double helix and steroid molecules which provide access to the information content contained within the double helix. Decoding DNA - The processes of decoding the double helix structure through the function capability provided by the steroid molecules, including decoding tables of an interaction vessel formed by the steroid molecules comprising walls and ceiling. Translating DNA - The mapping of the nucleotide triplet to amino acid is shown through the analysis of the structural and chemical characteristics of the DNA double helix formed in conjunction with the steroid molecules, thereby enabling a code of three nucleotides per amino acid. Example - An example is provided of constructing a protein chain of seven amino acids, including the encoding, transmission, decoding and translation aspects. Replication - Replication of the double helix through the steroid molecules is shown, along with error correction procedures. Genetic rearrangement - Methods of splicing and recombining the DNA structures to form increasingly complex structures. This is intended for the individual who wants to know about the origins of life function, DNA, and the Genetic Codes. As it contains original research, it is not to be used for commercial purposes.
