Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Awakening Aten envelops the reader in an Egypt of whispers and fears, of webs within webs, deceit upon deceit. Its themes of murder, intrigue, political and religious conflict, corruption, tomb robbing, war and executions are set against a background of fundamental ideological change. Ancient Egypt is seen through the eyes of two families; one royal, the other commoner. Yuya, whose tomb is in the Valley of the Kings, is a foreigner who rises from slavery to become Regent to an infant Pharaoh and thus, the most powerful man in the world’s wealthiest empire. His children and descendants will remain at the very heart of the country’s destiny. Kha is a tomb painter and builder who experiences both the despair of imprisonment and the horror of war. As Overseer of the King’s Works he restores the Great Sphinx, and inscribes the ‘Dream Stela’ placed between its paws, still visible today. Through tragic and deathly events his family and that of Yuya become entwined. This is the fictional tale of real people, whose possessions and artefacts can be seen in museums throughout the world. It gives a voice to those people, inspired by their personal items, buried with them 3,000 years ago.

  • Pages : 133 pages

Download or read book Akhenaten written by Ted Kramer and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2018-10-15 with total page 133 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a historical novel. It combines historical records with likely, but also speculative events and ideas, such as beliefs, love, family relations, leadership qualities or lack thereof, beliefs, conjugal and family ties among Egyptian royalty, religion and religious upheaval, and a unique, revolutionary departure from traditional Egyptian religion, from polytheism to monotheism and finally the murder of a pharaoh. The worship of light and its permanence through all subsequent civilizations was historically introduced by Akhenaten, and is visually presented to the reader. The story happened at a crucial time when Egypt expanded its intellectual as well as commercial ties throughout what we now call the Middle East. It was at a time when the presence of Hebrews in Egypt was documented and when the Moses’ story and the Exodus presumably occurred. Some credence is given to the Bible, to Sigmund Freud’s book ‘Moses and Monotheism’, to the the two Jewish theologian brothers Massoud at the University of Montpelier in France, and to Ahmed Osman, an Egyptian archaeologist in England. All this is interwoven with the authors’ own ideas. The primary goal of the author was not to convince the reader of the truth of the story, but to develop an interesting and credible story. The secondary goal was to advance the notion that light—particularly sunlight—is not just a physical phenomenon but the principal radiation and tradition on our planet, the source of life and the object of worship not just for Akhenaten but to many other religions primarily Christianity and the Enlightenment in France and in nascent America.

Book Shards of Illumination II

Download or read book Shards of Illumination II written by Ralph Ellis and published by Edfu Books Ltd. This book was released on 2024-03-11 with total page 644 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *** eBook edition, with colour images *** Description: The Shards series are a compilation of hundreds of posts and articles I have written during 2022 and 2023. Both volumes cover a large selection of topics, from alternative biblical exegesis, to energy policy criticism, to climate deception, and to covid idiocy. Yet the disinformation and gaslighting continues unabated, and has even surpassed the peak of just two years ago. When will it end, I hear you ask? Only when we stand up to it, and call it out in public. Our new age is not the Anthropocene, it is actually the Deceptocene. Thus we see: Clerics only telling their flocks half of the gospel story. Medics refusing to investigate alternative therapeutics. Climate scientists amending and cherry-picking data. The media not investigating alternate facts and data. Academics jumping on bandwagons for grant funding. Politicians using cherry-picked data to their advantage. These many deceptions can only be the result of intentional deceit, not mere incompetence. Although these deceits are invigorated by bandwagon-riders - those who seek personal advantage through turning a blind-eye to the corruption. It is time to stand up to the Woke cry-bullies, and break through the deception. V1.9 2024 eBook colour. .

Book The World of the Axial Sages

Download or read book The World of the Axial Sages written by John C. Stephens and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-11-25 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an engaging analysis of the global spiritual changes of the first millennium BCE. Between the sixth and fourth centuries BCE, several new, revolutionary religious and philosophic movements were born throughout the world. Rather than using the well-known label “Axial Age” to refer to this time of religious change, the book argues that a better choice would be the “Age of Awakening”, since it places more emphasis upon the personal, internal dimension of religious experience lying at the core of these developments. Earthshattering spiritual encounters with the sacred led the prophets and sages of the Age of Awakening to redirect people’s attention away from the stagnant traditions of the past towards new forms of dynamic spirituality. The era saw the emergence of a variety of innovative spiritual pathways in both the eastern and western worlds. In classical Greece, Pythagoras and Plato proposed new spiritual and intellectual alternatives to the outdated religious myths and rituals of the polis. The Middle East also played a significant role in the spiritual revolution of the first millennium BCE. As early as the sixth century BCE, the Persian prophet Zoroaster’s revelatory visions about the Truth and the Lie led to the birth of a new religious movement known as Zoroastrianism. At the time of the Babylonian Exile, ancient Judaism underwent a process of radical spiritual renewal largely due to the inspired teachings of the Hebrew prophets. In India, the writers of the Upanishads provided a spiritual reinterpretation of many of the old Vedic myths and rituals. Sages including the Buddha and Mahavira rejected the old sacrificial system of the brahmins and asserted that liberation from the cycle of birth and death could only be found through the practice of asceticism and a general withdrawal from the illusory material world. As such, this book highlights the importance of the de-stabilizing influences of religious experience for understanding the revolutionary spiritual developments of the first millennium BCE.

Download or read book Akhenaten written by Ronald T. Ridley and published by American University in Cairo Press. This book was released on 2019-03-12 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A groundbreaking historiography of the reign of Akhenaten More ink has probably been spilled on Akhenaten and his times (‘the Amarna Period’) than any other figure from ancient Egypt, with a vast range of interpretations and theories that can leave the uninitiated utterly bewildered. Against this background, Akhenaten: A Historian’s View examines what scholars have said over the years regarding key aspects of the period, to produce a ‘history of histories,’ exploring exactly how various chains of arguments were arrived at—and how houses of cards thus erected have subsequently come tumbling down. In particular, it teases out ideas based on solid documentation from those based on theory and fancy, and tracks ways in which new evidence became available, how it was interpreted, and how it fed—or didn't—into the big picture. This book thus fills a major gap in the literature of the Amarna Period and also contributes to the wider, and much neglected, field of the historiography of ancient Egypt.

More and more scientists are discovering that both disciplines are only two sides of the same coin. We are on the verge of a major paradigm change in science where the immaterial subjective world of the mind can no longer be separated from the objective material world. This leap in human consciousness was already foreseen by the ancients and American indigenous people like the Maya, Hopi and Aztecs who prophesized that this transformation of consciousness would take place in our time. This book takes you on a journey from the ancient wisdom to the most modern scientific insights and demonstrates how both can be united.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two celebrated Egyptologists bring to vivid life the intriguing and controversial reign of King Tut's parents. Akhenaten has been the subject of radically different, even contradictory, biographies. The king has achieved fame as the world's first individual and the first monotheist, but others have seen him as an incestuous tyrant who nearly ruined the kingdom he ruled. The gold funerary mask of his son Tutankhamun and the painted bust of his wife Nefertiti are the most recognizable artifacts from all of ancient Egypt. But who are Akhenaten and Nefertiti? And what can we actually say about rulers who lived more than three thousand years ago? November 2022 marks the centennial of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun and although "King Tut" is a household name, his nine-year rule pales in comparison to the revolutionary reign of his parents. Akhenaten and Nefertiti became gods on earth by transforming Egyptian solar worship, innovating in art and urban design, and merging religion and politics in ways never attempted before. Combining fascinating scholarship, detective suspense, and adventurous thrills, Egypt's Golden Couple is a journey through excavations, museums, hieroglyphic texts, and stunning artifacts. From clue to clue, renowned Egyptologists John and Colleen Darnell reconstruct an otherwise untold story of the magnificent reign of Akhenaten and Nefertiti.

Download or read book Seeing the Light written by Thomas DeGloma and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2014-11-26 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The chorus of the Christian hymn “Amazing Grace” reads, “I once was lost, but now am found, / Was blind but now I see.” Composed by a minister who formerly worked as a slave trader, the song expresses his experience of divine intervention that ultimately caused him to see the error of his ways. This theme of personal awakening is a feature of countless stories throughout history, where the “lost” and the “blind” are saved from darkness and despair by suddenly seeing the light. In Seeing the Light, Thomas DeGloma explores such accounts of personal awakening, in stories that range from the discovery of a religious truth to remembering a childhood trauma to embracing a new sexual orientation. He reveals a common social pattern: When people discover a life-changing truth, they typically ally with a new community. Individuals then use these autobiographical stories to shape their stances on highly controversial issues such as childhood abuse, war and patriotism, political ideology, human sexuality, and religion. Thus, while such stories are seemingly very personal, they also have a distinctly social nature. Tracing a wide variety of narratives through nearly three thousand years of history, Seeing the Light uncovers the common threads of such stories and reveals the crucial, little-recognized social logic of personal discovery.

Download or read book Amarna written by Barbara Watterson and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many the word "Amarna" conjures up visions of the city in which Nefertiti, one of the most beautiful women of the ancient world, lived in connubial bliss with her husband, the eighteenth-dynasty Pharaoh King Akhenaten. Armana was also the city in which Tutankhamun, today the most famous pharaoh of ancient Egypt, spend the first part of his childhood. Although Armana has become a byword for religious and artistic innovation, it is often difficult to disentangle myth from fact, speculation from reality. In this well-illustrated study, Barbara Watterson, one of the most accomplished of modern Egyptologists, discusses and brings up to date the many theories that abound about the period.
