Book Implementing Automated Road Transport Systems in Urban Settings

Download or read book Implementing Automated Road Transport Systems in Urban Settings written by Adriano Alessandrini and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Implementing Automated Road Transport Systems in Urban Settings provides valuable, objective, often difficult-to-obtain data, gleaned from the largest demonstration project on automated road transport systems (ARTS) in the world to date. The book features chapters authored by those deeply involved in CityMobil2—providing an easily accessible, cross-referenced resource for data and information on each aspect of the project. Chapters cover vehicle technical specifications, infrastructure analysis, operating systems, future scenario analysis, automated and conventional vehicle comparisons, and legal frameworks for system implementation. The book examines project field tests, showing the technology's adaptability and different requirements based on geographic location. Government officials, researchers, and transportation practitioners require real-world data and analysis in their efforts to bring automated and intelligent transport systems into the mainstream. The CityMobil2 demonstration transported more than 60,000 passengers in seven European cities, providing immense amounts of feedback and data to be analyzed. The book provides international expert opinion on this real-world data, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the project, as well as providing comparisons to both past and planned ARTS demonstration initiatives. The technical specifications developed from the project will help cities considering similar ARTS initiatives. - Presents real-world data and valuable analysis from CityMobil2, the world's largest demonstration project on automated road transport systems (ARTS) - Assists policy makers seeking to implement their own ARTS, providing technical specifications, infrastructure analysis, as well as legal considerations - Features a companion website with links to CityMobil2 demonstration videos, as well as links to detailed project documents - Presents findings from CityMobil2, such as effects on daily trips per capita, average journey distance, and occupancy rate, and how they can affect the development of future ARTS projects - Provides future ARTS scenario analysis, with information on planned, similar demonstrations

Book The Driver s Response to an Automated Highway System with Reduced Capacity

Download or read book The Driver s Response to an Automated Highway System with Reduced Capacity written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents the results of one in a series of experiments that investigated driver performance in a generic Automated Highway System (AHS) configuration. The experiment examined how well drivers could take over a function(s) - steering alone, speed control alone or both - from the AHS when it was no longer able to perform that function(s). Results are reported.

Book Drivers Activities and Information Needs in an Automated Highway System

Download or read book Drivers Activities and Information Needs in an Automated Highway System written by Lee Levitan and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These experiments investigated what drivers do when traveling under automated control, and what information they would like to have available during that time. Eighteen drivers ages 25 through 34 and 18 drivers age 65 or older participated in the first two experiments; 6 drivers participated in the third experiment. All experiments were conducted in the Iowa Driving Simulator. The driver drove the simulator vehicle onto a freeway and then moved to the center lane; following a period of manual driving, control was transferred to the AHS, and the driver traveled under automated control for at least 34 min. In the first two experiments, which were run together and consisted of a single trial for each driver, driver activities were videotaped for later analysis.

Book Practicality of automated highway systems

This book was released on 1979 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The determination of AHS practicality was based on evaluating various design concepts in relation to both technical and socio-economic design considerations. The project included the determination of system objectives, the conceptual design of candidate systems to meet these objectives and evaluation of the most promising candidate systems. This final report is presented in three volumes. Volume I contains a summary of the entire report. The detailed analyses are presented in Vols. II and III.
