Download or read book People and Place written by Michael S. Horton and published by Westminster John Knox Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this final volume of a four-volume series, Michael Horton explores the origin, mission, and destiny of the church through the lens of covenantal theology. Arguing that the history of Israel and the covenant of grace provide the proper context for New Testament ecclesiology, Horton then shows how the church is constituted through the ascension of Christ, the Pentecost, and the Parousia and how it continues to live by the Word and sacraments. Horton's goal is to demonstrate the potential of a covenantal model for integrating the themes of the church as people and as place, with an urgent concern for contemporary practice.

Download or read book Restoring the Five Fold Ministry written by Hartwell Paul Davis and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The church represents the largest organization in the world, covering all nations, all cultures, and millions of members. Church leadership, like leadership in any organizations, is of vital importance. However, the difference is that Jesus's model of leadership and use of power and authority can be different from leadership in the world of business. The differences between the fivefold ministry gifts and the leadership of elders and deacons are often misunderstood, and the changing nature of church leadership from biblical roots has resulted in several forms of maladaptive leadership in the church today, the most common being the rise of the pastoral supremacy syndrome, where the focus on the pastoral gift has effectively destroyed the fivefold ministry intended to be God's leadership design. This books is about leadership-specifically about leadership in God's church.

Download or read book New Apostolic Reformation written by R. Douglas Geivett and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2018-07-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This critique provides a framework for understanding and interpreting the widespread but little-known New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) movement. As the authors state in the preface: "We write this book with two major goals in mind. First, to give people an idea of the sheer size and reach of the NAR movement. And second, to systematize its key teachings and practices and evaluate them on the basis of Scripture and careful reasoning . . In our judgment, the NAR perspective crosses these boundaries [that is, certain broad parameters, revealed in Scripture and practiced in the historical orthodox church], and it does so in part because of flawed theology rooted in a flawed understanding of Scripture. We wish to warn readers about a possible confusion: Some critics have linked the NAR movement with mainstream Pentecostalism and charismatics. We do not do this. In fact, it is our contention that the NAR movement deviates from classical Pentecostal and charismatic teachings. This movement has emerged out of independent charismatic churches and, thus, has gained a foothold in many of those churches in varying degrees."
