Book Examining Career Development in Jamaica and Australia

Download or read book Examining Career Development in Jamaica and Australia written by Denise N. Fyffe and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like many other nations, Australia experienced social and economic transformation. They had to implement career development measures that would sustain the progress needed because their way of life was being threatened by the international crisis happening around them. To do this Australia utilized mediums that would successfully create new programs, services, schemes, and benefits. At present in Jamaica, many of the graduates of secondary institutions enter the job market ill equipped to access the opportunities available to them. For some, there is inadequate basic academic preparation; for most, there is inadequate career education. The world of work has grown very complex and numerous career options are open to students. Educational decisions made rather early in the school life of students, will have a decisive influence on their access to careers of choice later on. It is important that career awareness, career exploration and career preparation activities be incorporated into their early education.

Book Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child

Download or read book Concluding Observations of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child written by Leif Holmström and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-10-11 with total page 600 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted ten years ago, on 20 November 1989, by the General Assembly of the United Nations. It entered into force on 2 September 1990. At present, 191 States have ratified or acceded to this Convention, which makes it the most widely accepted human rights treaty ever. Under article 44 of the Convention, each State party has to submit an initial report within two years of the entry into force of the Convention for that State and thereafter a periodic report every five years. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has been formed to monitor the implementation of the Convention. At its second session, in 1992, the Committee decided that it would adopt, at the end of the consideration of each State party's report, concluding observations reflecting the main points of discussion and indicating issues that would require a specific follow-up. The concluding observations provide a general evaluation of the report and of the dialogue with the delegation, and make note of positive developments that may have occurred during the period under review, factors and difficulties affecting the implementation of the Convention, and of specific issues of concern relating to the application of the provisions of the Convention. They also include suggestions and recommendations to the State party concerned. The present volume contains all concluding observations (as well as corresponding preliminary observations) adopted by the Committee on the Rights of the Child at its third to seventeenth sessions (1993-1998) on reports from 81 States parties in total. Foreword by Mrs. Mary Robinson, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Download or read book The Progress of Nations 2000 written by UNICEF. and published by UNICEF. This book was released on 2000 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: AIDS is possibly the greatest catastrophe facing the African continent. This is the stark message delivered by this latest issue of the UNICEF Progress report. It is estimated 860,000 children in sub-Saharan Africa have lost their teachers to AIDS in 1999, yet education is the cornerstone in preventing the spread of the disease. These and other statistics are set out in this annual report, detailing the progress of improving the quality of life for children and young people throughout the world. Some positive developments can be noted, such as the near-eradication of Polio, but much is still needed to be done.

Book excerpt: "Many young people around the world --- especially the disadvantaged --- are leaving school without the skills they need to thrive in society and find decent jobs. As well as thwarting young people's hopes, these education failures are jeopardizing equitable economic growth and social cohesion, and preventing many countries from reaping the potential benefits of their growing youth populations. The 2012 Education for All Global Monitoring Report examines how skills development programmes can be improved to boost young people's opportunities for decent jobs and better lives."--Publisher's description
