Convertible into dwelling houses for their accommodation, they were under the necessity of residing in tent1, in the vicinity of the city. During a considerable part of the moat inclement season of the year; and were eubjeeted to considerable expense, on account of the public sera vioe, for tents, earring, and cattle; for the removal of their family establi1hments, from former places of residence to Bareilly; extra manta, for public and Homestic purposes erecting habitations, the principal article of which were only to be had from the pi'esidency, or the company's intermediate stations; and the common necessaries of life being dearer at Bareilly than in the lower provinces. The lieutenant-governor, at the desire of the governor-general in council, reported on the extraordinary allowances, independent of their eelery, which was fixed on the same scale of proportion as ofiioet'e of aimilar rank in the lower provinces, to which the commissioners, and other ofimrs, appointedto the wded provinces, were justly entitled, on account of these extra expenses. To commissioners t 200, collectera 600, assistants 200, regiaters zoo, sicca rupees per month, from the date of their respective appointments to the end of the current year.
