Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ascension and Heavenly Priesthood of Our Lord At the time when the volume on the Resurrection of our Lord appeared, the writer had no thought of again turning to a subject so much akin to it as that with which the following Lectures are occupied. He has accordingly found it difficult to avoid a repetition of some things that had been previously said. Should it be thought that he has been only partially successful in this, he can assure his readers that the failure has not resulted from want of effort to effect his end. It will be seen, too, as in the discussion regarding the Offering of our Lord in heaven, that, even when a view. Taken in his former work recurs, it is stated in a different relation and for a different purpose. In these circum stances he ventures to hope that there may be little ground for complaint upon this point. Of what he' had written in occasional papers in Theological Journals he has felt entitled to make freer use. Such papers are for the most part unconnected with each other, and are often forgotten as soon as read. He regrets that the fear of unduly increasing the size of the volume has made it necessary to suppress, at least in the meantime, many Notes which he should have wished to add to the Lectures. Download or read book The Ascension of Christ written by Patrick Schreiner and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's essential to the Gospel, but we rarely talk about it. The good news of Jesus includes his life, death, resurrection, and future return--but what about his ascension? Though often neglected or misunderstood, the ascension is integral to the gospel. In The Ascension of Christ, Patrick Schreiner argues that Jesus' work would be incomplete without his ascent to God's right hand. Not only a key moment in the Gospel story, Jesus' ascension was necessary for his present ministry in and through the church. Schreiner argues that Jesus' residence in heaven marks a turning point in his three-fold offices of prophet, priest, and king. As prophet, Jesus builds the church and its witness. As priest, he intercedes before the Father. As king, he rules over all. A full appreciation of the ascension is essential for understanding the Bible, Christian doctrine, and Christ's ongoing work in the world.

Book A Thematic Access Oriented Bibliography of Jesus s Resurrection

Download or read book A Thematic Access Oriented Bibliography of Jesus s Resurrection written by Michael J. Alter and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-12-31 with total page 602 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The keystone of Christianity is Jesus’s physical, bodily resurrection. Present-day scholars can be significantly challenged as they forage through voluminous documents on the resurrection of Jesus. The literature measures well over seven thousand sources in English-language books alone. This makes finding specific sources that are most relevant for specific scholarly purposes an arduous task. Even when a specific book is relevant, finding the parts of the book that are most relevant to the resurrection rather than other topics often requires additional effort. A Thematic Access-Oriented Bibliography of Jesus’s Resurrection addresses these challenges in several ways. First, the bibliography organizes more than seven thousand English sources into twelve main categories and then thirty-four subcategories, which are designed to help you find the most relevant literature quickly and efficiently. Embedded are pro and con arguments which support efficient access through brief annotations and then annotate the diversity and complexity of the field of religion by including sources that represent a diverse range of views: theistic (e.g., Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.), agnostic, and nontheistic. The objective of this bibliography is to provide convenient access to relevant sources from a variety of perspectives, allowing you to browse or find the one source accurately and with ease.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Items on Priesthood: Presented to the Latter-Day Saints It seems from the foregoing that Moses had the greater or Melchizedek Priesthood; that when he was taken, the keys went with him; that the Aaronic Priesthood ruled until Christ, and the people were under the law; that when Christ came he intro duced a better covenant and restored the Gospel; and that the Bishopric was, and the Aaronic Priesthood is, under the Melchizedek, and an appendage thereto, as are also all Elders appendages to the Melchizedek Priesthood; and it is also evident that the Presidency of that Priesthood presides over all, as did Melchizedek, Moses, Joseph Smith, etc., with Jesus at the head, as the great Presiding High Priest. Book Our Priesthood Classic Reprint

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our Priesthood It might indeed please God to use these talks - such as they arkas an instrument of grace. Anything can be successful in His hands! As to the pleasure which could be derived from the perusal of this book, by those who heard its contents, this possibly might be the result of their grateful remembrance and indulgent kindness. We like to believe that this little book might strengthen ties of affection which, being formed by God, surely no man can put asunder. Hence we thought it best to reproduce these lectures in their original form with the addition of only afew notes; thus they would be more real, even though the very form of a spoken word does entail a greater im perfection. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Our One Priest on High, or the Present Sacerdotal Function of Christ in Heaven: What It Is Not, and What It Is The present publication may be regarded as a supple ment to my pamphlet on The Christian Doctrine Of Sacerdotium. I regretted (p. 51) that in that address it was impossible for me to deal with two texts in the Epistle to the Hebrews (p. Which are alleged as supporting the sacrificing Office Of Christ in the heavens. None who are well acquainted with the details Of our present controversies will question the importance Of meet ing the arguments which have been based upon these two texts. I have accordingly desired here to show that their true meaning has sometimes been seriously misunderstood.
