Book The Ascension and Heavenly Priesthood of Our Lord Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Ascension and Heavenly Priesthood of Our Lord Classic Reprint written by William Milligan and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-11 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Ascension and Heavenly Priesthood of Our Lord At the time when the volume on the Resurrection of our Lord appeared, the writer had no thought of again turning to a subject so much akin to it as that with which the following Lectures are occupied. He has accordingly found it difficult to avoid a repetition of some things that had been previously said. Should it be thought that he has been only partially successful in this, he can assure his readers that the failure has not resulted from want of effort to effect his end. It will be seen, too, as in the discussion regarding the Offering of our Lord in heaven, that, even when a view. Taken in his former work recurs, it is stated in a different relation and for a different purpose. In these circum stances he ventures to hope that there may be little ground for complaint upon this point. Of what he' had written in occasional papers in Theological Journals he has felt entitled to make freer use. Such papers are for the most part unconnected with each other, and are often forgotten as soon as read. He regrets that the fear of unduly increasing the size of the volume has made it necessary to suppress, at least in the meantime, many Notes which he should have wished to add to the Lectures. Book The Ascension of Christ

    Book Details:
  • Author : Patrick Schreiner
  • Publisher : Lexham Press
  • Release : 2020-07-29
  • ISBN : 1683593987
  • Pages : 90 pages

Download or read book The Ascension of Christ written by Patrick Schreiner and published by Lexham Press. This book was released on 2020-07-29 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's essential to the Gospel, but we rarely talk about it. The good news of Jesus includes his life, death, resurrection, and future return--but what about his ascension? Though often neglected or misunderstood, the ascension is integral to the gospel. In The Ascension of Christ, Patrick Schreiner argues that Jesus' work would be incomplete without his ascent to God's right hand. Not only a key moment in the Gospel story, Jesus' ascension was necessary for his present ministry in and through the church. Schreiner argues that Jesus' residence in heaven marks a turning point in his three-fold offices of prophet, priest, and king. As prophet, Jesus builds the church and its witness. As priest, he intercedes before the Father. As king, he rules over all. A full appreciation of the ascension is essential for understanding the Bible, Christian doctrine, and Christ's ongoing work in the world.

Book Prayer and the Priesthood of Christ

Download or read book Prayer and the Priesthood of Christ written by Graham Redding and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2005-03-29 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book Graham Redding provides a detailed account of prayer in the Reformed tradition, and a critical examination of its present place in the Reformed Churches. From its inception the Christian church thought of worship and prayer in trinitarian terms. At the heart of this trinitarian concept ;ay the doctirne of the priesthood of Christ which, in its liturgical expression, presented Christ not merely as the object of prayer, but also as its mediator: prayers were directed to the Father through Christ. The author traces the idea of the priesthood of Christ, and its effects on Christian worship and prayer, from its origins with the earliest Christians, and through the Arian and Apollinarian debates. He then focuses on the Reformed tradition and the influences of John Calvin, John Knox, John Craig, John McLeod Campbell, William Milligan, Theodore Beza, William Perkins, federal theology and the Westminster tradition, and through to the present day. This is an important history of an important doctrine, showing in a remarkable way how the doctrinal struggles within the church have been reflected in the worshipping life of the church, and how they continue to be reflected today. Redding concludes with a number of key affirmations for a Reformed understanding of prayer, and a critique of certain modern tendencies and practices in the church.

Book Reconstructing Pastoral Theology

He builds further on this idea here, presenting a christological basis for ministry and pastoral theology.

Book The Ascension in Karl Barth

Download or read book The Ascension in Karl Barth written by Andrew Burgess and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the doctrine of ascension, and Barth's ascension thought in particular. First, it examines the doctrine of Jesus Christ's ascension into heaven, presenting a sustained discussion of Karl Barth's approach to this doctrine and the significance of the doctrine within his theology as a whole. Secondly, through examining Barth's ascension thought and dialoguing with three other theologians (Torrance, Farrow and Jenson), a clearer understanding of Barth and his theology is achieved. The treatment of issues related to Christ's ascension across a broader (protestant) perspective increases the relevance and usefulness of this unique study. Andrew Burgess presents the doctrine of the ascension as an important and undervalued doctrine and encourages Christians to see how, like Barth, they might benefit in their ability to think coherently about the present age and about Jesus in relation to this age, enabling further thought about the work of the Holy Spirit, the church, and Christian ethics.

In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Of the life and work of Jesus, the apostle John said, "Even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written" (John 21:25). Acknowledging the size of the task, as well as its importance, Dr. John F. Walvoord has written this systematic presentation of the Person and work of Christ from eternity past to eternity future. Beginning with an analysis of modern trends in the study of Christology, Dr. Walvoord shows that "contemporary Christology has in many respects confused rather than clarified the extended revelation of the Word of God." The Word of God forms the solid basis for Dr. Walvoord's entire study. Analyzing the Old Testament, he shows Christ in its history, typology, and prophecy. Then, in the New Testament, he examines the life and work of the incarnate Christ. The doctrines of atonement, redemption, propitiation, and reconciliation are thoroughly and clearly discussed. The book concludes with an examination of the present and future work of Christ, thus giving the reader a comprehensive study of Christology
