The exhibition was made up of some 500 objects from the collection of Mohssen Foroughi, brother of the Iranian ambassador to the United States, and some 200 pieces selected from the archaeological museum in Tehran by Richard Ettinghausen. The Foroughi collection had been shown in 6 European museums in 1961-1963 (Sept Mille Ans d'Art en Iran). 12 objects considered to be of doubtful authenticity were withdrawn. Book excerpt: The Lie Became Great explores the closed society of international plunderers and forgers which thrives as a subculture of the Art World. These multi-cultural denizens include antiquity dealers, collectors, museum curators, forgers working in conjunction with auction houses, museums and galleries. Forgeries are made to be sold, and a great number pass into the Art World - collections, exhibitions, catalogues, and popular and scholarly journals - complete with their fabricated stories of excavation, and how they were found. The Lie Became Great documents the success and activities of one small corner of this vast network - artifacts form the Ancient Near East - with hundreds of detailed catalogue entries of forgeries. The participants in this society gain money, prestige, power, position as they distort and irretrievably damage the true story of our cultural heritage. STYX PUBLICATIONS

Book The Origin of the Indo Iranians

Download or read book The Origin of the Indo Iranians written by Elena Efimovna Kuzʹmina and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2007 with total page 782 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here then is the fruit of Elena Kuz'mina's life-long quest for the Indo-Iranians. Already its predecessor ("Otkuda prishli indoarii?," published in 1994) was considered the most comprehensive analysis of the origins of the Indo-Iranians ever published, but in this new, significantly expanded edition (edited by J.P. Mallory) we find an encyclopaedic account of the Andronovo culture of Eurasia. Taking its evidence from archaeology, linguistics, ethnology, mythology, and physical anthropology pertaining to Indo-Iranian origins and expansions, it comprehensively covers the relationships of this culture with neighboring areas and cultures, and its role in the foundation of the Indo-Iranian peoples.
