Download or read book The Art of Lawn Tennis written by William T. Tilden and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Art of Lawn Tennis Tennis is at once an art and a science. The game as played by such men as Norman E. Brookes, the late Anthony Wilding, William M. Johnston, and R. N. Williams is art. Yet like all true art, it has its basis in scientific methods that must be learned and learned thoroughly for a foundation before the artistic structure of a great tennis game can be constructed. Every player who helps to attain a high degree of efficiency should have a clearly defined method of development and adhere to it. He should be certain that it is based on sound principles and, once assured of that, follow it, even though his progress seems slow and discouraging. I began tennis wrong. My strokes were wrong and my viewpoint clouded. I had no early training such as many of our American boys have at the present time. No one told me the importance of the fundamentals of the game, such as keeping the eye on the ball or correct body position and footwork. Book Paradigm Shift for Future Tennis

Download or read book Paradigm Shift for Future Tennis written by Tijana T. Ivancevic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-16 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book “Paradigm Shift for Future Tennis” starts with revelations that make obvious the limitations of today’s tennis, which does not use the laws of modern Biomechanics and Neurophysiology. The second part of the book includes a new approach to the quantum mind of a champion. It will reveal the secret weapon of Roger Federer and the blueprint of a future tennis champion. This book will expose the new tennis shot emerging from the field of sports science. It is a real weapon, which can generate a ball-speed similar to that of the first serve: the Power High-Forehand. Its aim is to generate maximal possible racket-head speed while players do not wait for the ball to bounce. This is both a tactical and psychological basis for the future tennis game. This aggressive interceptive psychology will shape the minds of future tennis champions. High racket-head speed can be achieved using the stretch-reflex, without big loops and swings. Weapons of a future tennis game will comprise of whip-like tennis serves and ground strokes, based on the stretch–reflex, and using the whole body in a fluid and integrated manner, thus manifesting a superb combination of speed and strength. Restructure your brain and apply the power of state of the art biomechanical, mathematical, medical, neural, cognitive, and quantum computational intelligence to understand the tennis of today and the future!

My strokes were wrong and my viewpoint clouded. I had no early training such as many of our American boys have at the present time. No one told me the importance of the fundamentals of the game, such as keeping the eye on the ball or correct body position and footwork. I was given a racquet and allowed to hit the ball. Naturally, like all beginners, I acquired many very serious faults. I worried along with moderate success until I had been graduated from school, beating some fairly good players, but losing some matches to men below my class. The year following my graduation the new Captain of my Alma Mater's team asked me if I would aid him in developing the squad for next year. Well, "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread," so I said Yes.At that point my tennis education began. The youngsters comprising our tennis squad all knew me well and felt at perfect liberty to ask me as many questions as they could think up. I was besieged with requests to explain why Jones missed a forehand drive down the side-line, or Smith couldn't serve well, or Brown failed to hit the ball at all. Frankly, I did not know, but I answered them something at the moment and said to myself it was time I learned some fundamentals of tennis. So I began to study the reasons why certain shots are missed and others made. Why certain balls are hit so much faster though with less effort than others, and why some players are great while most are only good. I am still studying, but my results to date have resulted in a definite system to be learned, and it is this which I hope to explain to you in my book.Tennis has a language all its own. The idioms of the game should be learned, as all books on the game are written in tennis parlance. The technical terms and their counterpart in slang need to be understood to thoroughly grasp the idea in any written tennis account.I do not believe in using a great deal of space carefully defining each blade of grass on a court, or each rule of the game. It gets nowhere. I do advocate teaching the terms of the game...

Book Becoming a Professional Life Coach The Art and Science of a Whole Person Approach Third

Download or read book Becoming a Professional Life Coach The Art and Science of a Whole Person Approach Third written by Patrick Williams and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2023-04-04 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An update to the coach training bestseller. The profession of life coaching is more necessary than ever in this time of pandemic-related uncertainty, the shift (in some cases, permanent) to remote learning and working, and the constant change that accompanies world events. With his best-selling Therapist as Life Coach, Patrick Williams introduced the therapeutic community to the career of life coach, and in the first and second editions of Becoming a Professional Life Coach, he and Diane S. Menendez covered basic principles and strategies for effective coaching. Full of new information on the neuropsychology of coaching, the third edition of Becoming a Professional Life Coach explores the neuropsychology behind coaching; specialties in the field, such as trauma and addiction coaching; coaching amid post-pandemic global stress; coaching virtually; navigating emotions in coaching; and achieving transformational coaching by addressing the whole person. It takes readers step-by-step through the coaching process, covering all the crucial ideas and strategies for being an effective, successful life coach. This book is one-stop shopping for beginner and advanced coaches alike. Other topics include: coaching the whole client: mind, body, emotions, spirit; post-pandemic global stress; and the importance of professional coaching competencies.

Book The Biomechanics of Batting Swinging and Hitting

Download or read book The Biomechanics of Batting Swinging and Hitting written by Glenn Fleisig and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the movie Bull Durham, frustrated manager Joe Riggins stresses to his team, "This is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball." This simplification works well for biomechanists too, as sports can be broken down into specific physical tasks like throwing, hitting, catching, and running. There have been significant advances in understanding some actions, but not others. In the first ten years of the journal Sports Biomechanics, only 18 of 236 articles were about hitting a ball. This scarcity is startling considering that according to USA Today (May 20, 2005), three of the five hardest things to do in sports involve hitting a ball (#1: baseball batting, #4: golf tee shot, and #5: tennis serve return). This book provides the latest biomechanical research in the under-studied field of hitting a ball. The biomechanics of baseball, cricket, hockey, hurling, softball, table tennis, and tennis are all examined. The chapters are written in a style that will both satisfy the high standards of biomechanists and provide information for instructors and athletes to improve performance. This book is based on a special issue of Sports Biomechanics.

Book Science and Racket Sports I

Download or read book Science and Racket Sports I written by T. Reilly and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2013-11-05 with total page 299 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains papers from the First World Congress of Science and Racket Sports held in Runcorn from July 9 to 13th, 1993. The programme consisted of 6 keynote addresses, 6 workshop sessions, 28 oral communications and 16 poster presentations. Manuscripts written up following the Congress were subject to peer review and editorial judgement prior to acceptance for the Proceedings. The volume is organised into parts based on scientific disciplines. Material falling into physiological topics have been split into those that report investigations of demands of racket sports, and those detailing fitness profiles or fitness testing of players. Similarly papers concerned with biomechanics and mechanics have been distinguished into those primarily concerned with force or stroke analysis and those focused on rackets or equipment in the racket sports. The Sports Medicine section includes papers that might have been placed elsewhere in the book but for their highlighting of injury or injury risk. Whole sections are devoted to psychology and to match analysis in the racket sports.

Book The Strokes and Science of Lawn Tennis Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Strokes and Science of Lawn Tennis Classic Reprint written by P. A. Vaile and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-09-10 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Strokes and Science of Lawn Tennis I have been compelled to illustrate these strokes myself, for there is no player in England who plays them. Here and there one finds a person who uses one or two of them, but it would, in a work of this nature, be obviously impossible to collect photographs of a great number of different players. These strokes are not here laid down as being the most perfect because I play them so. They are the most natural and effective strokes known, and are the result of the experience of practically all the most famous players in the world, except Messrs. R. F. And H. L. Doherty. This statement I shall refer to later on. It is confidently anticipated that this book will prove of great assistance, not only to beginners but to those players who, on account of their defective hold of the racket, cannot produce the best Lawn Tennis strokes.
